What It Means to Become Parents

Aunt Molly Has the Magic Touch - Nap Time With Our Niece

We are very excited about the opportunity to be parents! We consider it an honor, as well as a very important job! There is a lot that we expect to like about being parents. We already have a strong bond as a couple, and we are very much looking forward to fostering and building that bond, emotional connection, and attachment with a child! We strongly believe in the values of unconditional love and acceptance, and we’re excited to provide that for a child, sincerely welcoming him or her into our family with open arms. Caleb, in particular, has a passion for learning and teaching, so he is excited to play a role in the development of a child throughout his or her life. We are both looking forward to being a strong support system for a child, encouraging him or her to learn, explore, and develop a healthy level of independence and self-confidence. We have a ton of fun together and are looking forward to all the fun and laughs we will have as a family!

Cultural Diversity

Exploring Our City's Historic Jazz District With Molly's Parents

Cultural diversity has always been an important value for each of us. From a young age, we learned to appreciate differences within our communities, including culture, race, and varying perspectives. Throughout elementary and high school, Molly enjoyed sharing a classroom with other students from Puerto Rico, Russia, Poland, Cuba, and Portugal. She went on to attend a very diverse college, where she made friends with other students from Cape Verde, Brazil, and Mozambique. Caleb grew up in an area with significant diversity; in fact, he was only one of two white members of the varsity baseball team. He loved the opportunity to be a part of so many different cultural experiences - focusing on building relationships with others and learning from their stories.

As a family, we genuinely enjoy experiencing different cultures - either through music, art, food, or travel. Music is important to us, and our city has a jazz district that we enjoy visiting, taking in the great music and food of the historical neighborhood. We also enjoy visiting new cities and regions, exploring their cuisine and talking with the local people. We think it’s important to personally experience various cultures to better understand others' perspectives.

Fun Facts About Us:

  • Growing up, we both played sports and musical instruments. Caleb was the captain of his high school baseball and football teams and played the trumpet for eight years.
  • Molly has always been incredibly talented in music - playing the piano from a very young age. She also played soccer, basketball, and tennis.
  • Molly is the youngest of five girls (yes, you can feel a little pity for her dad). Caleb has an older brother and a younger sister and brother.
  • If you don’t remember anything else - just know that we LOVE coffee. If you can’t find us at home or at work, check the local coffee shop!
  • We love where we live. From our neighborhood, to our school district, to our city, to our metropolitan area, we don’t think there’s a better place to live!
  • Molly has successfully owned her own business since 2010, and Caleb runs a small business that employs 18 people.
  • If it’s Monday night - there’s a good chance Molly is watching the Bachelor. And, to Molly’s dismay, Caleb loves watching football on Sundays.
  • Molly is better at ping pong than Caleb — but Caleb doesn't mind!

    Our House and Neighborhood

    Our Home

We've lived in the Kansas City metro area for 13 years. Six years ago we moved into our current home, which has four bedrooms and an open floor plan where we can spend time together as a family.

We chose to live in our neighborhood because of the close-knit community and emphasis on family life. We love that our neighborhood is full of friendly families with young children. On our block alone, there are two dozen children, who make for plenty of playmate possibilities! Every year, our neighborhood hosts a fourth of July "parade" where kids decorate their bikes and ride through the neighborhood, ending with a fun, community celebration!

Our city is frequently ranked as being one of the best cities in which to raise a family, partially due to having the highest rated public school district in all of Kansas!

Another thing we love about our neighborhood is its proximity to so many different activities. Within two miles, we can be at an American history museum, an animal farm and petting zoo, an amazing park with a playground and ropes course, and plenty of dining and shopping opportunities. A twenty-minute car ride can have us in the heart of the city or at an apple cider mill which hosts tons of family-friendly activities, including a pumpkin patch, corn maze, and Cider Fest, just to name a few!

    Our Extended Families

Caleb With His Sister & Niece

We are so excited to grow our family, and our extended family members are beyond thrilled to welcome another child into the mix! Molly comes from a large family and is one of five daughters! Most of her family lives on the East Coast, but one sister (and her family) live in Kenya. Caleb comes from a close-knit, blended family who mostly resides in Colorado.

Molly Ice Skating With Her Niece

Being located in between both of our extended families makes it quite convenient for visits and holiday gatherings! When the family is all together, we enjoy playing board games, going to the park, watching movies, and laughing nonstop! Caleb’s dad is a wonderful cook who loves to have the whole family together to enjoy delicious food and each other’s company. Our parents can’t wait to have another grandchild to love and spoil, and we’re already getting babysitting offers!

As often as we can, we like to take vacations as an extended family: usually a week at the beach. The kids have a blast playing in the waves and building sand castles. It’s a great time for us all to get together, relax, have fun, and connect on a regular basis.

Our nieces and nephews are very excited to have another playmate. We love to make fun, family memories whenever possible and are looking forward to making many more!

    From Us to You

As you may already know, Molly is a voracious reader and we both love a good story; it’s a huge bonus if that saga is based on a true story. We get caught up in exploring the various personalities and perspectives of the characters and are fully engaged in watching the interactions between the characters. Caleb gets embarrassingly engrossed in the plot and Molly perceptively analyzes the participants. Up to this point, our personal story has been full of love and excitement, and we’re anxiously awaiting our next chapter!

Like any other parents, we’re fully aware that we’re not going to have all of the answers or be perfect in every moment, but we absolutely know that we will both be the best parents possible to the child you bring into the world, showing them the unconditional love and support that will nurture them as they grow and living out an example of authenticity and absolute positive regard for others, something we strive to achieve in all we do. Our faith teaches us that the most important things we can do in life are to love God and to love others, and if those are our focus, the other important things in life will resolve in a way that accurately reflect who we are.

After nearly fourteen years of marriage, we’ve learned a lot about one another and how we’re a good match, balancing each other's natural tendencies and building a wonderful life together. Our home is filled with constant laughter, sometimes due to Caleb’s silliness and sometimes due to Molly’s adorable quirkiness. We try to live our lives based upon important values, like meaningful friendships, compassion for others, open-mindedness to new ideas and people, diversity, service to others, and inclusion of those around us. We genuinely care about one another, and we can’t wait to add to our family through adoption.

We, of course, live out our values with our friends and family, but they holistically encompass our entire lives, including our professions. We’ve both chosen jobs in which we have the opportunity to help people, intentionally serving our clients and employees in a way that honors God and lives up to our ideals.

Another common thread in our story up to this point, and one we hope to extend throughout our child’s life, is that of learning and experiencing new things. We can’t wait to sing and dance with our child, experiencing the joy that music can bring. We’ll love sharing new cultures and different places with our child, helping them build empathy and concern for others. We look forward to the every-day kind of things, like helping with homework, coaching them in their potential sports, and teaching them how to ride a bike or play an instrument.

We want to share the unfolding story of the baby’s life with you, sharing photographs and family anecdotes on a regular basis. We want you to be involved in the baby’s life, providing the love you have with them as they grow. If you’d like, we’d love the opportunity to meet you prior to the birth, either virtually or in person. We want you to get to know us a little better, as we want you to be as comfortable with your decision to choose us as adoptive parents as possible!

And for better or for worse, real life doesn't cleanly transpire like the shows we watch on TV or read in our favorite books. Each of us has had our own paths, the good coupled with the bad. But the story of the baby will be one that we’ll be able to tell together with you and one that will be uniquely ours, weaving our collective pasts into the child’s future.

Thank you for taking the time to consider us as potential parents, and we look forward to getting to know you over the years.
