Dave & Jackie
We commend you for your strength and courage as you consider an adoption plan for your child. Thank you for taking time to read our profile as we feel blessed to share our story with you and express how thoroughly excited we are to expand our family through adoption again. We hope after reading this you feel the enthusiasm, love and unmistakable passion we have towards being parents.
We have two children, Evan (5) and Cameron (3) who are both adopted. Evan is an energetic boy that loves playing basketball, baseball, soccer and pretty much any sport you introduce him to. He enjoys going on adventures and exploring outside. He is also a very good helper when we do yard work or projects around the house. Evan has a soft spot for babies, and he always gets a big smile on his face when he finds out we are going to visit one of his baby cousins.
It is heart warming to see how Evan expresses his love and affection to babies in our extended family and group of friends. Cameron is also very active, and full of imagination. He likes drawing, building things and making his own forts. He often pretends he is going on vacation to different places and piles up his toys, stuffed animals and other household items on a blanket and invites us to come along with him on his adventure. His vast array of facial expressions always keep us laughing and lightens up the mood in the house. Both boys can't wait to have another brother or sister to play with.
Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other
Dave About Jackie: Jackie is a great planner and loves to cook and entertain for our family and friends. She possesses the element of "homemade," whether that is through her gift making and wrapping, or overall craftiness. She has a passion for transformation and loves doing home improvement projects. She is organized and structured and everyone tends to be drawn in by her warm and loving personality. She is also very creative in coming up with different projects and games for our kids, and has a knack for capturing their attention. Jackie is always there to comfort you with her big smile. When she is really excited about something she makes an overzealous exaggerated smile that is so contagious and makes everyone happy.
Jackie About Dave: Dave is very genuine and puts 110% into everything he does. He can always be counted on and his level of patience makes him a great father. He loves to teach our kids all sorts of things from playing sports, to fishing, to riding a bike, to how to use different tools. Dave is easygoing and can get along with anybody. He is very supportive, and has a calming presence when you are having a bad day and need someone to talk to. Dave is the best thing that ever happened to me!
Our Family Traditions
We go on two summer vacations every year in northern Wisconsin that our whole family looks forward to. Over the 4th of July holiday we travel up to Gigi's (Jackie's mom) cabin on the lake. We have fun going on pontoon boat rides, swimming, and fishing. We decorate the boat with stars and stripes for Independence Day and participate in the boat parade that goes around the entire lake waving and beeping horns at each of the residents that live on the lake. The kids also always look forward to seeing the albino (white) deer that lives in the area and can be seen walking through the yard daily.
We also take a trip up to Dave's grandparents cabin with Nana & Pops (Dave's parents), Dave's siblings and their families. The kids do a lot of exploring in the woods around the cabin, and love playing with their cousins and pretending to paddle down river in the canoes and kayaks. Another one of the trip highlights are the delicious meals (and s'mores!) cooked over the campfire. The adults partake in daily bean bag tournaments and canoe/kayak trips down the river. The trip is the perfect mix between adventure and relaxation!
One daily tradition we have is to ask each family member what the best part of their day was at the dinner table. The goal is to find good in everyday, celebrate the small things and be grateful for all that we have.
Our House and Neighborhood
Our house is surrounded by a quiet neighborhood in a small rural town in Wisconsin. It is close to our church and school. Even though we are in a rural area, we are still just minutes from town where we enjoy frequenting the local restaurants and especially the ice cream shop. There is also an outdoor community pool that we love taking our kids to in the summer. We often get involved with volunteering for church festivals or school fundraisers that bring together the local community.
We have a big yard bordered by a field and wooded area providing lots of space for our kids to play and enjoy the outdoors. Our large driveway has a basketball hoop that gets a lot of use, and we have fun drawing with sidewalk chalk to create different pictures or games with our kids.
On weekends, we spend a lot of time outside on the back patio taking in the great view and going on nature walks. Occasionally, we will find a turtle or frog on our walks and the kids will get super excited and name them like they are new pets!
Our Extended Families
Our family is our foundation and the most important aspect of our lives! Both of our parents and siblings live nearby so we are able to get together very often. Our kids look forward to many adventures while at Nana & Pops (Dave's parents) house 1 day a week, such as sledding, playing in the sprinkler and golf cart rides.
Gigi (Jackie's Mom) also helps with watching our kids 1 day a week. In addition to playing legos and baking with Gigi we especially enjoy spending time as a family at her lake house boating, fishing and swimming. We know the memories our kids make with their grandparents will last a lifetime. In addition to our parents we have the benefit of sharing the joys of parenting with our combined 11 siblings, who are also raising their young families. We are very excited that our kids have the opportunity to form close relationships with their cousins just as we have.
Both of our families are tremendously supportive of our decision to adopt. Everyone is very eager to welcome another addition to our family and look forward to being an active part of this child's life.
From Us to You
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us and our journey. We are grateful that you are considering our family. We know this can be a difficult path to travel but it is a testament to how much you love your child.
We met through mutual friends during college on the last day of the school year 15 years ago. When returning to school the following fall we were surprised to find out we had several classes together. Our relationship blossomed as we sat next to each other daily and studied together. Ironically, we actually planned a wedding as a group project in one of those classes! We dated for three years before getting married and have been married now for over 10 years. Our love for each other has continued to grow as we go through this roller coaster of life, and is stronger now than it has ever been.
Our vision initially was to start a family shortly after getting married, but we came to realize over time that God had a different plan for us. We went through some painful years of infertility treatments and two failed pregnancies, which opened our eyes to the path of adoption. We had a lot of questions and unknowns when we started our 1st adoption process, but we knew there were birth parents and a baby out there that were destined to become a big part of our lives. When Evan was born 5 years ago it filled a void in our lives that we had so deeply been longing for. We were not aware we could love someone so much! After Evan turned 1, we felt adoption calling us again to expand our family, and we were excited for him to have a lifelong companion. Our hearts were so happy when we witnessed Evan’s pure joy and excitement on the day his baby brother, Cameron was born. The amount of love we have for our boys is truly indescribable and we thank God every day for the privilege of being parents.
We are very excited to welcome another baby and the desire to expand our family is growing each and every day. Our boys can't wait to have another brother or sister. They have already been talking about possible names, and picked out stuffed animals they want to pass on to the baby. We believe having siblings who are also adopted provides an instant connection and a pathway to celebrate each of their unique adoption stories.
We would love the opportunity to learn more about you and your family to begin building a long-lasting connection. We have an open relationship with both of our children's birth parents where we exchange pictures, text messages, and email updates/stories on a regular basis and would welcome the same level of communication with you. We are also open to making arrangements for visits when the time is right. We admire your strength and courage, and please know that you and your child are in our prayers. We hope through our words and pictures you have a clear vision of the warm, loving, and supportive environment we will provide.
