Cultural Diversity

We Can't Wait to Grow Our Family

We openly embrace the possibility of becoming a culturally diverse family! We believe in raising our daughter and, if chosen, your child to know and understand their cultural heritage. We think it is important that we raise our family in diverse neighborhoods, communities, and churches.

We also think cultural history is important. As an example, our family celebrates Black History month every February by going to the local library and checking out books about important people and events in black history. In our home, we ensure that toys and books represent people of all races and ethnicities. We plan on raising our children with toys and books that are relatable and look like them. We want your child to have dolls, actions figures, and book characters that represent who they are as a person both inside and out. We also will model to our children that all people should be treated with love and respect regardless of what they look like or what languages they speak. In a culture that can be full of hate and darkness at times, our goal is to ensure a home full of love and acceptance with no exceptions.

Our Family Traditions

Cheering on the Chiefs!

Our family has many different traditions. One of our favorite weekly traditions are Saturday morning pancake or waffle breakfast! Craig wakes up with Ellie and spends quality time with her while Erica makes breakfast. We always eat a big family breakfast of sausage, bacon, and homemade pancakes or waffles together to get the weekend started. Later in the day, we take a family bike ride or walk.

During football season, we make a large spread of appetizers and watch the games as a family. We love to make jalapeño poppers, chicken wings, and all different kinds of dips as we cheer on our favorite team, the Michigan Wolverines and on Sundays, the Chicago Bears or Kansas City Cheifs!

We also have a few holiday traditions that we love. Every year around Christmas time we drive around with hot chocolate and check out the lights in our area. We also buy an ornament for our daughter, and will do the same for all future children, that best represents a monumental moment in their life from that year. When the child grows up they will be able to take the ornaments with them for their own Christmas tree.

Education We will Provide

Education is something that is very important to our family. Erica is a former teacher and loves implementing learning activities with our daughter. If chosen, your child will always be met with age appropriate learning experiences. Those experiences include reading, sensory activities, and as they grow older learning shapes, colors, and numbers all while having fun. We plan on raising our children in the public school system unless we find that system is failing them. Erica looks forward to participating in our kids’ classrooms and always being a part of their learning. A good school is always something we look for if/when we move due to Craig's job in the military and we are fortunate to live in a neighborhood that has a highly rated school system. One of the benefits of Craig's career is that it gives our children the opportunity to use his GI bill to cover the cost of college. Since we are able to provide this to our children, we plan to encourage them to pursue that option, if it best fits them. Whether they choose go to college or not, the most important thing to us is that our children choose a career path that they find personally fulfilling.

Our Extended Families

Craig's Family

We both have great relationships with our families! Craig comes from a large family of four brothers and one sister. His grandparents are first generation immigrants from Poland and incorporate many polish traditions in their daily lives. One of the traditions we will pass on to our family is a large Polish meal at Christmas consisting of homemade pierogi and polish desserts. Erica’s family is smaller in comparison, she has two sisters who are both married and with children. Erica's family loves sports. Every Saturday you can catch us watching football and eating a large spread of appetizers during Michigan games.

Erica's Family

As much as we love spending time with our families, we don't get to see them daily because they live out of state, but we often get together for holidays and birthdays! We are blessed that both of our parents come to visit quite frequently no matter where we are living. Whenever we do get to spend time with our extended families we often play outside with our nieces and nephews, go for long walks, travel, play board games, or watch sporting events. There is always lots of food and most importantly lots of laughter. Both of our families are thrilled about adoption and would welcome your child with open arms! Your child would be raised with not only a sister but lots of cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents who love them.

Our House and Neighborhood

Home Sweet Home

Our motto is "our home is where our family is." While we absolutely love where we live, we truly feel it’s our family that makes our house a home. We live in a two-story house in a wonderful community with a golf course, pool, splash pad, parks, walking trails, and other amenities. During the summertime we love going down to the pool and splash pad. Right outside the pool is the park with a jungle gym and swings! We live within walking distance to both of these amenities and often walk down to the park to let our daughter play. If we don't go to the pool, we spend our time with neighbors who have young children that all play together.

Neighborhood Splash Pad

Another perk of our neighborhood are the events they hold through the year like the annual 5K run, Fourth of July celebration, and Santa Christmas Breakfast to name a few. While we love our community we also love our house. Erica loves to cook and bake in the Kitchen. Directly off the Kitchen is the living room with a fireplace, TV, and lots of toys, books, and puzzles for our daughter to play with. The upstairs includes the master bedroom, our daughter’s room, and a third room which will be the nursery for any future children. Our home has a large yard with lots of room for play.

From Us to You

We are so excited for the opportunity to expand our family through adoption! It has always been our dream to have a large family to raise and share our love and joy with through the years.

We have been married for three years and have a biological daughter who is one. We met on eHarmony five years ago. On our first date, we decided to meet for coffee to get to know each other. Our coffee date lasted six hours and turned into dinner: the rest is history! We were married in Erica's hometown in Michigan in 2017.

After suffering a miscarriage and a very complicated second pregnancy, our daughter was born. Ellie is a fun loving girl with a big personality and lots of energy! She is always smiling, laughing, moving, and loves to have fun. She brings us so much joy! Erica's pregnancy with Ellie was life-threatening for both of them. After 9 months of serious complications, we were told that more biological children would not be in our future. We knew immediately this was exactly part of the plan to bring us to adoption as the way to grow our family.

We would love nothing more than sharing the love that we have with another child. We know Ellie would love to have a little brother or sister to take care of, play with, laugh with, and enjoy life with as they grow. If you chose us, your child would not only have a sister but also lots of cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents who would love them with all of their hearts, and if we're honest, spoil them with clothes and toys just like they do Ellie!

Our family always makes faith and family a priority. We go to church every Sunday morning and spend time there during the week for play dates and bible studies. If chosen, your child would be raised to know that all people are created equal and are all valuable, even if they look different or speak differently than them. They would be raised understanding the importance of family and time spent together, whether we are playing outside, riding bikes, or watching sporting events like football, basketball, and baseball.

Holiday celebrations are some of our favorite traditions. We envision Christmas morning met with little footsteps climbing down the stairs with anticipation waiting to see if Santa came to bring gifts. Later in the day we would celebrate with a large Polish dinner incorporating Craig’s family heritage. Yearly vacations are also important to us whether it is to the beach, out of the country, or to go see our family and friends. We hope some of these vacations would include a visit to come see you as well.

Your child's adoption story would always include you and your love for your child. If chosen, we want to be able to share pictures, letters, and photos with you. We want your child to know how deeply loved they are by us but also by you. We want you to always be a part of the conversation as we share with your child his or her story, where they came from, and who their biological family is. We would love to make a photo book of pictures of your family and some of your favorite memories to always have on hand for your child to read through. In our eyes, you would be an extended family member to us!

We are excited to grow our family, to love and raise another child, to watch our daughter gain a sibling and watch them both grow a lifelong sibling bond with each other. We are excited for this opportunity and thank you for taking the time to read about our family.

Sincerely,

Craig & Erica
