Marcelo & Laura

Thank you for reading our profile! We are a family who wish for nothing more than the opportunity to welcome a child, to share love, to see them grow into a happy and successful life of their own. We are parents who have much more to give, and a daughter who is excited to welcome a new brother or sister to look after and share her life with.

Cultural Heritage

We were both born and raised in Argentina, and always speak Spanish at home, including our daughter. We eat traditional foods like empanadas (beef turnovers) and milanesas (breaded chicken or beef, thinly sliced). Our family stories are stories of struggle and sacrifice, but also of hard work, open-ness and integration, and of hope for a better tomorrow for our children. We respect cultural diversity and understand that it takes active work to pass down our heritage to our children. It's not something that just happens, and it's not enough to just read a book or watch a documentary - but it's something enriching and dignifying, and it's worth the work.

Our goal is to provide your child not only our heritage, but also your own. We're committed to seeking out and passing on history, role models, traditions and experiences - we're fortunate to have friends from many different backgrounds from across the world we can turn to for help, who can act as mentors and advisors if needed. Whatever your background may be, we are committed to honoring it.

Our Favorite Vacation Spot

Waiting for the Luau to Start

Our favorite vacation spot, other than visiting our extended families in Argentina, is Maui, a quiet island in Hawaii. We've been there a few times and always look forward to our next visit.

We have a favorite beach called Baby Beach. The water is shallow for a long distance into the sea, and the area is protected from the wind so there are hardly any waves. It's a great place to relax, play in the sand, or splash in the water. In Maui, we don't have a watch with us. We spend the day following whatever activity we choose to, surfing, shopping or sunbathing. In the evenings, we can get delicious shaved ice, get fresh seafood, and watch the sunset over the ocean.

We work hard throughout the year, but any time we can get away to a little bit of paradise we come back energized, ready to take on anything, and full of new memories that we'll cherish forever. We would love the opportunity to have your child in these memories, to have him grow up appreciating the beauty of nature, and to find joy not only in the excitement of our everyday lives, but also in a quiet, laid-back lifestyle.

Our Daughter, Uma

Uma Can't Wait to be a Big Sister!

We have a seven year old daughter who we have raised to be open minded and tolerant, to stand up for those who are being treated unfairly, to be caring and think of others, to work hard for what she wants and practice to be excellent at whatever she chooses.

We work hard to give her a solid education and encourage her to try different activities that she might enjoy, from learning to play a guitar (which didn't take) to swimming (which very much did). We’re not raising her in any religion and will let her choose her own path, but we're making sure she holds our values, like helping those less fortunate and the value of human dignity, work, family and community.

Uma is kind-hearted and full of energy, and loves gymnastics and dancing. She's wanted a little brother or sister for a long time, and can't wait to take care of her new sibling, loving and sharing everything - even looking forward to helping us change diapers or rock them to sleep.

Our Extended Families

Christmas in Argentina

Laura has her parents and her younger brother living in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and a younger sister living with her husband and kids in the Netherlands. The three siblings grew up in Argentina in various towns, following their father's work assignments as an Army Officer. Laura loved her close-knit family and spending the summers in her grandparent's house in a small town outside Buenos Aires, where they didn't have much but made the most of the area and each other, going fishing, playing until dark or making some dessert with her grandma.

Marcelo with His Mom & Brother

Marcelo has his mother and older brother also living in Buenos Aires. They love discovering new places to eat every Sunday when they get together. Some of our best memories as a family are weekends spent playing tennis, swimming or just hanging out together around the house, everyone engrossed in a book.

We travel at least once a year to Buenos Aires, spending Christmas and New Year with our extended families in the southern summertime. It's a wonderful time to relax, have ice cream, swim in a pool and just spend time with each other. The grandparents also love this time with their grandkids and treasure it dearly. Everyone is so very excited to welcome your child - the youngest in the family! - and shower them with love and attention.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We live in beautiful Washington, across the lake from Seattle, the Emerald City. We're surrounded by lakes, mountains, and evergreen trees. It's full of families from all over the world, a residential area where kids can gather and play outside after school. Our neighbors have kids of various ages, and we love trading recipes, desserts or baked goodies with them.

We are fortunate to live in a three story house with plenty of natural light. At the top is the master bedroom and a small study area, then below the kitchen and living room area where we spend most of our time as we all gather to eat, read and watch TV together, and at ground level we have two bedrooms - one for our daughter, and one which we plan to make your child's when they are old enough.

Behind our house we have a closed garden where we grow herbs and tomatoes, where our dog lies in the sun and barks at passing birds, where we get together with friends for a weekend BBQ, and we set up an above-ground pool to cool ourselves in summer.

From Us to You

We are Laura and Marcelo, and would like to start by introducing ourselves. We have been married since 2005 and have a seven-year old daughter, and for a long time the three of us have felt our family isn't complete. We have been unable to conceive another child after trying for a while, but we have always been open to the idea of adoption, and our minds are set on this course.

We have a lot of love to give to your child, as well as the opportunity to grow up in a great environment. We are fortunate to live in a beautiful area in Washington, surrounded by lakes, mountains and trees. Both of us have had successful careers in technology with no signs of slowing down, in a company that provides plenty of benefits to parents and their families. There are great education opportunities, and our personal, school and work lives are filled with people from all over the world and with different backgrounds.

We love to travel, ski, go to the beach, and experience new things - activities, food, music, places, books - and above all love doing it together as a family.

We were both born in Argentina, and stand proud of our Latin heritage. We know well that it takes effort to provide a child with a sense of self and place in history and in the world, and we're committed to putting that work in for your child. We believe in family, helping those less fortunate, the dignity of each human being and the respect they deserve, and that diversity makes for a fairer, more interesting world.

We won't pretend we can ever fully understand the position you are in right now. We believe you care about your child and are looking to make the best decision for them, and we respect that tremendously. We truly wish the best for you and your child.

What we can do is assure you that your child will be loved, cared for and grow up to be a happy, independent person; someone who can take charge of their own destiny, confident in our unbreakable support. We believe family comes first, and we don't take our commitment lightly - we will be the best parents we can be for your child, for the rest of our lives.

We would prefer an open adoption but understand we need to figure out the right path for everyone. We will send you letters and pictures for sure if you desire, and are open to more contact or visits if that is something you’re interested in.

We understand you're probably reading multiple letters, and there are difficult decisions ahead for you. Whatever your decision, we're rooting for you - we're all in this world together. It would be our greatest honor and joy to be a loving family to your child.

Love & respect,

Marcelo & Laura
