Meredith & Katie
Thank you for taking a look into our lives! We truly hope that our profile shows you how loving, fun, and adventurous we are! We have built a life together filled with support, laughter, and care, which we hope to grow through adoption. Please know we do not take for granted the opportunity that you are providing to us, and we have such respect for you and your decision. Thank you for considering us!
Our Leisure Time
We both love to spend our free time outside. Around our home we take our dog on daily walks, go for bike rides, or have friends over for dinner and a warm fire. In our neighborhood there is an apple orchard that we regularly visit for the BEST popcorn and candy apples. It also has Meredith's favorite homemade ice cream! One of Katie's many self-taught skills is pickling cucumbers and vegetables; we often take trips to the local farmers market for fresh produce. In the summers we play in a weekly volleyball league and get friends together to play frisbee or football.
Our weekends are filled with friends and family, experiencing new places, or enjoying a movie and date night downtown. We love going to the nearby city to see art shows, watch stand-up comedy, or attend festivals. We also love taking a trip out west or to the beach to explore a new place every year.
Multiple times throughout the year we head a few hours up to the Northwoods to spend time with our families. We both grew up on the Wisconsin lakes so we love to go for boat rides, water ski, and kayak. Even in the Wisconsin winters we get out to snowboard, snowshoe, or snowmobile. We make a point of enjoying all that life has to offer and know that it will all feel like a brand new adventure when sharing it with our child.
Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other
Meredith About Katie: Katie's parents have been married for 38 years, and she is the youngest of her two sisters so when she is asked what the most important thing in her life is it's no surprise that her first answer is always 'Family.' To me, Katie's greatest qualities have always been her loyalty, and her instant ability to connect with everyone she meets. Katie is warm, welcoming, and selfless. She can effortlessly fill an entire room with laughter and can always be counted on for support in times of need. She also has the most incredible gift of storytelling. With the children in her life she is always ready to get in the dirt and play or teach them a new hobby! Seeing her around children makes it clear how great of a mom she is going to be.
Katie About Meredith: Meredith's favorite thing in life is laughing and enjoying every moment, no matter how big or small. She is thoughtful, creative, driven, and cares deeply about the world. She loves to travel and values her family and friendships more than anything. Meredith's mom passed away two years ago from cancer, which was devastating as she was Meredith's best friend and greatest mentor. Meredith always says that because of the amazing mother she was, and the memories they made together, she will be with her forever. She has an amazing father, brother, sister-in-law and nephews that share stories of her mom often. When Meredith is around kids her personality lights up! She loves playing games with them, painting or doing projects, and going on adventures.
Addressing and recognizing cultural diversity is something we currently value in our everyday lives and will make a priority in our child's life and future, as well. We recognize and understand the importance of connecting to other perspectives and experiences of those with different backgrounds than our own.
We will incorporate cultural diversity through children's books and movies, as well as toys, music, and food. We will socialize with children and families of different cultures and will ensure the daycare and school we choose includes other children and families from different backgrounds. Our current social circle includes cultures of all types which is also beneficial to our family. We have traveled all over the world to experience diverse lifestyles and gain insight into other cultures from all different walks of life.
Our priority will be to recognize and respect your child's culture and focus on educating ourselves and them through traditions, beliefs, and values. Our goal will always be to instill pride and inclusivity within our family and lives every single day.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a quiet neighborhood in Wisconsin right outside the nearby larger city. Our local community that we're a part of has all different types of families from young parents to empty nesters. Our home has plenty of room for our future family with four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large kitchen, a cozy fireplace, and a great fenced in back yard.
Our home is a place we truly love and have really made our own. We love hosting friends and family for dinners, gardening, having fires, cooking new meals, and playing with our dog in the backyard.
We live in a friendly, safe and supportive community that we can't wait to continue to grow into. Our neighborhood is full of activities that we love including a park with a basketball court, baseball field, soccer field, and great playground equipment. There are also hiking and bike trails, an apple orchard, farmers market and neighborhood events such as annual picnics, garage sale days, trick or treating, and the Holiday train to name a few.
Living close to a large and diverse city is also beneficial as we regularly take advantage of the never ending activities. We love attending local sporting events, concerts and musicals, the annual China lights, world festivals, the ice skating rink, going to the zoo, and so much more!
Our Extended Families
We are both from fun, loving, supportive families and feel very fortunate to live close by them. We value spending time with our families as much as possible and making long-lasting memories.
Katie's parents live less than an hour away, near both of her sisters, their husbands, and children. Since they live so close we feel very lucky to get to spend time with them regularly! Katie's dad and sister are both pilots and enjoy taking the family on trips often. Katie is from a large family as her dad is one of 11 siblings so there are a lot of cousins and large family gatherings.
Meredith's parents live on the water in northern Wisconsin, while her brother, sister-in-law and nephews live about an hour away. Meredith's dad enjoys the life of a snowbird living in the great Northwoods in the summertime and heading off to sunny Florida for the winters. Meredith's family has a beautiful cottage on a lake where the best memories are made around a bonfire or out on the water!
Our favorite family adventures always involve campfires, cooking, snowmobiling, boating, water skiing, and playing games! They are all so excited for us to grow our family and cannot wait for this child to be part of our lives!
From Us to You
To begin, we want to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We fully respect the extremely difficult decision you're making by choosing adoption. Adoption is a humbling experience and your strength and bravery is so greatly valued and appreciated. We understand that looking through families to choose for your child must feel like an overwhelming and impossible task, but we know that if you follow your heart you won't go wrong. We can only hope that in your heart you feel we are the best choice for you.
When we first met, we nearly instantly fell in love. Shortly after that, we knew that we wanted adoption to be our path to creating a family. We have been together for 4 years, married for 1, and it feels as though we've known each other our entire lives. We are truly the luckiest to have found each other and to have built this life we love. We live in a beautiful neighborhood in Wisconsin with so much to do. In a lot of ways, including our morals, our motivations, and the hobbies we share, we are so very similar, while our differences complement each other. We are each other's best friend and greatest support.
Throughout our adoption journey we have often reflected on how we were raised, the appreciation we have for our family and friends, and what it really means to feel supported and loved. We couldn't be more excited to have our own kids to share the same experiences with. Our large extended family will provide your child with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins who cannot wait to welcome them into the crew!
Together we have more memories and stories to share than we can count, while we have also overcome challenges together that life has thrown at us. From our favorite moments such as the excitement of our wedding, buying our home, going on vacations, and making each other laugh every day, to the most difficult obstacles, such as the loss of Meredith's mom, we have grown stronger together. Throughout, and because of, the ups and downs we have always known that together we can offer a life to your child that will allow them to love, grow, learn, experience and tackle all that it has to offer.
Both of us have wanted to be parents for as long as we can remember. We always planned to have a family through adoption and created a life that we knew would give your child the world. When we talk about what 'home' means we know it's more than just the house we live in. We have home within each other, our extended relationships, and our future together. We know that our home will only become so much more complete with the blessing of your child. We also want to ensure that our lives will always be welcoming to you. We commit to annual visits, ongoing emails, calls, and letters. To us, being open has never been a question and is something we are whole heartedly committed to, of course if that is also what you want.
As parents we promise to provide a life filled with love, laughter, support, warm meals, family traditions, and memorable experiences. We promise to always listen, be understanding, honest, and put your child's needs first. We will never let a day go by without saying "I love you" and we promise to always encourage all of your child's dreams, no matter how big or small. We will love them unconditionally and always be there to pick them up when they fall down. We will always and forever celebrate the story of how our family was created, and for that a simple 'thank you' will never be enough.
