Mike & Amy
Thank you for taking the opportunity to consider us as potential parents for your child. We have a home that is full of laughter, love and a touch of silliness and we would love nothing more than to share all of that with another child. Being parents has been one of our greatest joys in life and we look forward to further growing our family through adoption.
Why We Chose Adoption
We think adoption is a wonderful way to further expand our family. We were blessed to get pregnant with our daughter, Nallia, but then have been unsuccessful with any further attempts at conception. Nallia is seven years old and has been such a blessing in our lives. Nallia is one of the most empathetic and tenderhearted individuals, and she is always watching out for others. She is very outgoing, happy and adventurous. She loves solving puzzles and mysteries. Most recently she can be found spending a lot of time riding her bike, building with legos, or doing arts and crafts. She also loves Disney, almost as much as her mom! She is so excited to become a big sister and we believe she will thrive in her new role.
We are both only children and we always knew we wanted a sibling for our child. We want someone that our daughter can play with, someone she can share experiences with, and someone she can develop a relationship with as she grows up. We had talked about adoption, as an option, even before we became pregnant, but those discussions and our interest grew as time went on. We feel that we would be blessed to grow our family through adoption. We have big hearts and a loving home, and we would love to have another child to share it all with.
Our Leisure Time
We live in an area that has varied seasons, so the things we like to do often vary based upon what time of the year it is. During the spring and summer we love planting flowers, going boating and swimming, playing volleyball and basketball, going for bike rides and walks, and having bonfires. We also love camping on the weekends and frequent trips to the local parks, often with a picnic lunch in tow. We often take day trips to go to the zoo or baseball games as well. In the wintertime, we enjoy game and movie nights. We also love to go sledding on the local sledding hills, and attend many of the local college's hockey games.
Regardless of the season, a couple of our other favorite past times are traveling and cooking together as a family. Our last trip was to Alaska with Mike's mom on a Disney Cruise. We went to a lumberjack show, met some Iditarod sled dogs, went whale watching and visited a glacier! As far as cooking, Amy loves to bake and make cakes and each winter she hosts a family baking weekend. We've also been known to watch cooking shows as a family and most recently we were inspired by the show Chopped and did our own home version of it. We handled those baskets of mystery ingredients almost like professionals!
Our Family Traditions
Tradition is so important to our family. We love making memories with all of the people we love. One of our favorite traditions is attending our town's Fourth of July parade. We love watching the school bands marching in the parade, local businesses throwing out candy, and gathering with our friends and family afterwards for a cookout and fireworks. It is one of our favorite summertime celebrations. We also love dying Easter eggs and doing egg hunts with family and friends in the spring and carving pumpkins in the fall.
Christmas time is one of our favorites and we have several traditions during the holidays. Amy loves baking and one weekend in November she invites her aunts and cousins for a Christmas baking weekend. Everyone comes and we spend the weekend baking and laughing until our sides ache. Everyone heads home with endless amounts of goodies to share throughout the holidays. We also love decorating for Christmas. We decorate the outside with lights and inside we have two Christmas trees and a Christmas village. Every year we pick out a new piece to add to our village. On Christmas Eve we always make sugar cookies with Grandma and go to Christmas mass with Mike's family and then head home for pizza night and Christmas PJ's. Christmas morning is filled with a big breakfast, opening gifts as a family, and spending the day relaxing together. It is one of our most favorite times of the year as there seems to be both snow and magic in the air.
Our Extended Families
Our extended families mean the world to us. Since we are both only children, our extended families were important parts of our lives growing up. We truly enjoy making memories and spending time together, and when it comes to a support system…we have the best! You can find us getting together to celebrate anything we can make an excuse to celebrate. We have picnics at the park, we go camping, we do holiday baking weekends, Fourth of July boating get-togethers, Easter egg hunts, and many more activities. With Mike's mom living nearby, there are also plenty of opportunities for Sunday dinners and sleepovers with Grandma. As a former librarian, Grandma also loves sharing good stories and snuggles in her lap. Most importantly when anyone needs help or support, everyone is there. Our family always has our back. Through laughs and tears, we always stick together. Our families are all very excited and supportive of our decision to grow our family by adoption. They are patiently waiting to have another child to snuggle and shower with love. Our two dogs, Duke and Thor, are also eager to have someone else to look after and to collect crumbs from.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a great community that is known for its love of outdoor activities. There are tons of parks that we frequent for picnics and hiding and finding painted rocks. There is also a biking/hiking trail that surrounds the community and makes a great spot for family walks or bike rides. We also like to take advantage of the weekly farmer's market downtown on the square. There we can find all kinds of produce and Nallia loves playing in the splash pad on summer days. Water activities are also plentiful; from swimming to boating to tubing, we have lots of opportunities to get on the water. Our house is situated on a small lake and we love to walk out of our backyard and go on pontoon rides after dinner, or to sit in our backyard around a bonfire enjoying the beautiful sunsets.
Our community also has excellent schools both public and private, and there are tons of school activities. Nallia currently attends a private school in town, and we feel that she is getting an excellent education. We also love partaking in events within our community. Every year they have a Fourth of July parade and then a Holiday parade which ends with the lighting of the big Christmas tree downtown. There also is a cultural festival in town where we can go to learn about different countries' traditions. There are also events with live music in the park or outdoor movies, which are great for family fun.
From Us to You
Thank you for taking this opportunity to learn more about us and our family. We hope to share with you a little bit more about who we are and what our hopes and dreams are for our family. We hope this information will provide you with comfort and peace of mind as you consider all of the options for your child.
We met in 2002 as we started college. We had similar majors and interests and took several classes together, so we became very fast friends. Our relationship grew and we started dating in 2006 and then we were married in 2009. After being married for a couple of years we started trying to conceive but it took us a little while to get pregnant with our daughter, Nallia. In 2013, however, she made her debut into this world and blessed us with the opportunity to become parents. Becoming parents was truly a blessing. Since we are both only children we knew we wanted Nallia to have a sibling she can grow up with and share experiences with. After several years of not being able to conceive another biological child, we started talking about adoption. The more we learned about adoption, the more we felt it was the right way for us to grow our family.
We know that you have a very difficult journey ahead of you and that there will be many difficult decisions along the way, but we promise to provide your child with a loving, safe, and stable home where they will be able to grow and thrive as a member of our family. We love to travel and look forward to sharing multiple adventures and opening their eyes to the world around them. We also feel that education is super important, so one of our promises is to make sure your child gets an excellent education that allows them to reach their full potential. We feel that it is important to support a child's dreams and to raise them to be a respectful, responsible, and productive member of our community. We promise to be there for all of their victories and celebrations, but also to be their biggest supporters when they might need us most.
We plan to start talking to your child about adoption at a very young age. We know their adoption story is a very important part of their identity and as they grow, we will incorporate more age appropriate details. We will share with them what an important part you have in their story. We would be happy to share their growth and accomplishments with you through letters, pictures, and emails. We will always speak highly of you and make sure your child knows how much you love them.
Thank you for considering us as potential parents for your child. We know this decision is challenging and we commend you for your courage. We hope you are able to find peace in knowing we would provide a loving, stable home for your child.
