Adam & Lauren
We are so excited to grow our family through adoption and want to thank you for considering our profile. We understand the strength, courage and bravery it takes to make an adoption plan for your child and want to assure you that should you offer us the opportunity to parent your child, we will make a beautiful home through unconditional love and support, a life rich in experiences, and by encouraging a love of learning.
Education We Will Provide
We have a love of learning and an innate curiosity about the world and how it works and we can't wait to share this with a child. Part of why we chose to live in our area is because of the diversity of students in the schools and the bilingual education that starts in Kindergarten.
Additionally, we both believe in the power of experiential learning to develop confidence and independence, and are grateful to live in an area where there are many ways to do this. Our library is terrific in that in addition to encouraging a love reading, it offers programming for crafting, coding, 3D design, music, and drama. We also have a children's museum, a nature center, and a nationally recognized local aquarium. There is also a neighborhood farm that has goats, rabbits, chickens, and many more animals, plus a program where you can sponsor a maple tree, collect the sap, and teach a child about the process of making maple syrup.
We believe that a good education is well rounded and is more than just what is learned in the classroom. So, we're excited to teach our child about cultural and ethnic diversity through travel, and our other hobbies. We also believe in the power of exposing a child to many different activities as a way to learn and are excited to help this child explore anything and everything they find interesting.
We have built a wonderful life for ourselves in Connecticut where we're both near the ocean and yet just a quick train ride to New York City.
Overall, we're pretty low key, and enjoy time at home. One of our favorite things to do on a Friday night is an at home sushi dinner - often one we've prepared ourselves with fish from the local seafood market. After dinner, we watch a movie from Redbox or Netflix and finish with s'mores for dessert at the firepit. We also love a good game night with friends, with a few favorites including Scrabble, Code Names, Scattergories, and Monopoly, and have even started a remote card night with Lauren's parents over Zoom - our favorite is Euchre.
We have a love of the outdoors and are outside as much as possible either tending to our vegetable garden, having dinner at the beach, playing with our dog, Dunkin', either at the dog park or in our backyard, riding bikes to explore new parts of town, or hiking in local state parks.
We're also foodies! So whether that's taking up bread baking while working from home, experimenting with new recipes, trying new restaurants, or preparing for our annual crawfish and crab boil party, we're always excited about new and delicious food.
Because of our love of traveling, we take weekend trips to small towns in the northeast, travel to see our friends and family throughout North America, and plan one international trip each year.
How We Met
We met through a mutual love of sushi. Lauren had recently moved to Chicago to be closer to her sister and nieces and nephew and with a work from home job, thought online dating would be a great way to meet someone. One night she saw Adam's profile, and his username had to do with sushi. Since Lauren hadn't found any local favorites, yet, she figured what better way to find out the best hot spots than through Adam, who was a self-proclaimed "sushi fiend." When Lauren asked Adam for a few recommendations, he wrote back with some of his favorites, and asked her out and the rest is history. When Lauren walked into the restaurant for their first date, she saw Adam standing there and said to herself "I hope that's him" because he was so handsome. Our first date ended up being 8 hours - a first for both of us. We talked about a ton of different things, but what stood out to us both was our mutual love of travel and learning. We had both been to such interesting places and continue to explore more together now that we're married.
Our House and Neighborhood
We have been living in Connecticut for 4 years, having originally moved from Chicago. We've met the best of friends, have jobs we love, and are involved in volunteer efforts of local non-profits. We've made so many amazing memories here that we can't wait to share with a little one. We love going to the dog park with our 10.5 year old Cockapoo, Dunkin', volunteering at the homeless shelter, relaxing at the public beach with friends and their children, visiting the aquarium, and walking the trails of local parks. The elementary school is just a 15 minute walk down the road, where there is a massive playground, tennis courts, and a big open field to play in. The community is so supportive of families, with organized sports leagues, an educational children's museum, an ice rink, gymnastics center, and has multiple carnivals and festivals each year with children's games and rides.
Our home is a peaceful, serene retreat from the surrounding urban area and the perfect balance of traditional and modern. The house overlooks a small river, so one of our favorite things to do has been to read a book on our wrap around porch watching the birds and listening to the water. Dunkin' loves running in the expansive backyard and we can't wait to have a little one to join him. Adam is an avid barbecuer and meat smoker and the yard is the perfect setting for him to cook to his heart's content.
Our Extended Families
We're very close with both sides of our family and everyone is so excited about our adoption plans. The kids are thrilled to have another cousin to play with, our parents can't wait to spoil another grandchild, and our siblings are looking forward to playing the role of aunt and uncle and supporting this child the way we have for their children.
Our large and lively family lives all over the US and in Canada, so we're often traveling to different climates and geographies throughout the year. Our visits always include good food, adventures, board or card games, and lots of laughter. Trips to Chicago include a DIY sushi dinner with our nieces and nephews, a huge Thanksgiving dinner with Adam's family, and an annual trip to the downtown holiday market. Each year, we spend a couple of weeks around Christmas in the pool and at the beaches of Naples, FL with Lauren's family and find time for airboat rides, boat outings, and eating the best seafood. When we can't be in-person with our families, we're staying connected through daily phone or video calls, and text chains with dozens of people. We also find ways to play games remotely, celebrate birthdays and even holidays when we can't be together.
We're also fortunate to have close friends in our neighborhood who are a terrific support system. They have children of their own, so we're excited to keep adding to the group as we build our family.
From Us to You
We are so grateful that you are considering this brave and selfless act for your child, and please know that the gravity of this decision is not lost on us. Whichever path you choose, you are so incredibly strong and courageous; and we are so thankful that you've taken the time to learn about us and get a glimpse into the family we want to create.
We have been together seven years and married four and hopefully our profile gave you an overview of who we are and what we like to do. On our first date, we discovered that one of the things we had in common was our love of extraordinary experiences. Whether this was traveling to new places, trying new food, serving others, or meeting new people, each and every one of these experiences taught us important life lessons, encouraged us to see things with a new set of eyes, and, ultimately, broadened our perspective. Our hope is that we can create a life for your child that encourages and nurtures curiosity, and develops confidence and independence. We will do this through a life rich in experiences and by teaching strong values and showing unconditional love.
We are excited to help your child explore anything and everything they find interesting. Fortunately, we live in an area that is not only near the ocean, but also a short train ride to New York City, and even just a few hours from some of our favorite ski mountains. By being close to the ocean, we can introduce your child to sailing, fishing and kayaking. We can take trips into the city to see Broadway shows, shop the holiday markets, see the tree lighting at Rockefeller center, cheer on the Yankees, and try any sort of cuisine he or she can imagine. And in the winter, we can head up to Vermont and Maine for a little downhill skiing and snow tubing. We have really great memories from these types of experiences and can't wait to share them with a child. Another benefit of where we live is that our city is extremely diverse. Your child would start learning Spanish as a second language in Kindergarten and would make friends with people from many different backgrounds.
While we do love amazing experiences, there is so much to be thankful for at home, as a family. We absolutely love our quality time and do this through eating dinner together every night, laughing hysterically during game nights, or playing outside in our big yard with our dog, Dunkin'. And once we are fortunate enough to add a child to our family, we know it's the day to day "small stuff," like reading stories after bath time, running through sprinklers, or teaching him or her how to bake Adam's "famous" chocolate chip pancakes, that will create lasting family memories.
What we want you to know above all else is that we will raise your child to be a considerate, honest, and loving human, someone who is proud of their heritage and is ready to take on all the world has to offer. We will send you letter and picture updates, but also want you to know that we'll ensure that your child has a strong connection to their "story," and will always honor how important you are to this child's life. So, while we'll follow your lead, we're open to having more contact, such as an exchange of emails, phone and video calls, texts, and visits. This way, we can continue to update you and learn more about you, your family, and your history, and can use this as yet another way for your child to learn about, and love, where they came from.
We believe it is the unconditional love for this child that will forever connect the birth family and the adoptive family. Whether or not it is us that you choose, we genuinely wish you all the best in your journey to find the right adoptive family for your child.
