Matthew & Carolyn
We believe that children are a blessing from God, and one that we would love to share in. Thank you for considering our profile. With the energy and passion that we bring to everything that we do, we know that we will make wonderful parents. Choosing us to be your child's parents would bring us joy beyond words. We hope that you will consider us and we look forward to whatever the future may bring.
Our Leisure Time
Leisure activities for us typically revolve around our family and friends. We will often visit with our parents and siblings to play board games together. Our favorite board games include Code Names, Betrayal at House on the Hill and Deception. We also enjoy playing on our virtual reality headsets with our families - playing multiplayer games such as Elven Assassin and tower defense games. About once per month, we will also get together with a large group of our friends, where the girls will watch and play with the children together and the guys will play Super Smash Bros.
Another hobby that we both enjoy is reading: Matthew will read science fiction and fantasy light novels, while Carolyn enjoys a good novel of the same genres.
We also play a roleplaying game - Dungeons & Dragons - several times a week with friends from all over the United States (and occasionally from other countries) using online tabletop simulators and voice chat.
Overall, we feel like we are a very fun-loving family and we look forward to teaching our future children how to participate in all of these activities with us, our families and our friends.
Our pets - Lulu and Dee - are a great source of joy in our lives. Carolyn has had our small dog, Lulu, ever since she was 16 years old. She has been with her through great changes in her life, and a comfort to her through many struggles. Lulu may be older now, but she is just as energetic as she was when she was a puppy, and at the same time super cuddly. On the other hand, our cat, Dee, is only 2 years old. Carolyn and her mother rescued her from the middle of a busy five-lane road when she was only 4 weeks old. The morning after we brought her home, we awoke to discover that she had escaped the box that we had put her in, and instead found her lying on top of Matthew's chest. It was then we knew that she had chosen him as her human. Matthew had not been very fond of animals up until this point, but after that he couldn't resist, and Dee has been his constant companion ever since.
We have much to learn with regards to how and when to introduce our child to their cultural heritage and cultural diversity, but we do know that we fully intend on doing so. We have already begun educating ourselves with books and articles on these topics and how to introduce a child to their own cultural roots, as well as other cultures.
We plan on reading culturally diverse books to our children. Also, we will actively look for age appropriate activities and places where our child can participate while surrounded by people of all races and cultures.
A lot of families in our church - including a few of our friends - have participated in transracial adoption, and we continue to have conversations with them on how they have introduced their own children to cultural diversity, as well as their own history. While we may not know much at first, we are excited to be able to learn along with our child about their cultural history, and that of others.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in the scenic south east in Tennessee. Our gated apartment complex is surrounded by trees to enforce the privacy of its residents, which consist of many diverse families with a good number of children. There are always children playing outside in the courtyard, playground and swimming pool when the weather is nice. We are within a five minute drive of a shopping center that frequently holds holiday events for children, and are very close to many parks and other playgrounds besides the one found in our complex. A short drive also leads to several natural attractions such as caves and nature trails.
The nearby city also features many fun and interesting activities for families to participate in. There is a large aquarium that features several different aquatic animals, as well as separate butterfly and penguin exhibits. There is also a local zoo that features several different animals - including a recent addition of giraffes. A children's "discovery museum" can also be found downtown, which features many fun ways to introduce children to art and history, including a "dinosaur dig" in a sand box and an ever-changing cultural exhibit. Just across the river from downtown, there is also a park with water fountains that always has children splashing through them in the summer, with a nearby carousel for those who are less aquatically-inclined. Overall, we live in a wonderful area to raise children that is filled with many opportunities for both education and fun.
Our Extended Families
We are extremely close with both sides of our family. Matthew's family lives within five minutes of our apartment complex. Carolyn's family moved to Alpharetta just recently, but we continue to have video calls with them on a daily basis and visit each other whenever possible. We are also close with our grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Family traditions include 4th of July barbecues with cousins and grandparents (as well as a few fireworks), Thanksgiving dinners, and Christmas Eve gatherings with the famous hand-made sausage balls produced by both of our fathers. Our families are extremely tight-knit and always ready to help with any problems any members may experience. Both sides of the family are also very handy with tools and ready to jump into action when somebody needs help with plumbing, a broken chair, etc. A good example of this was when we needed to install a new dishwasher, at which point Carolyn's cousin Kent wasted no time in coming over and installing it for us. We were also in need of a kitchen island at one point, and Matthew's papaw hand-built us a beautiful piece. These are just a few of the countless times our families have come together to support us. Needless to say, they also support us whole-heartedly in our decision to adopt a child. They say it takes a village to raise a child, and we definitely have one of the best.
From Us to You
Thank you so much for taking the time to look at our profile. We truly appreciate the courage and the love that it must take for you to consider adoption for your child, and are honored that you would consider us. We hope that the information presented here has shown you a little bit of just how much love we have for each other and our families - a love that we sincerely wish to share with your child.
On that note, we would also like to share with you a little bit about our relationship. The first time we met was through a mutual friend at college. Both of us knew that we had something special almost immediately. Because we cherished our relationship so deeply, we waited for nearly four years before getting married in order to make sure we were not simply blinded by the infatuation that we initially had with each other - and to make certain that we were ready financially and emotionally for the level of commitment that comes with marriage. We have now been married for six years, and have never been more in love. God has blessed our marriage and, when the time comes, we feel that he will also bless us with a beautiful child.
We want you to know that, should you choose us, we will love and care for your child with all that we have. We will protect and nurture them, and give them a safe and fun environment in which to grow and thrive. Whenever they inevitably falter and make mistakes, we will be there to help them and guide them back to where they need to be. They will receive an excellent education, and be encouraged to pursue extracurricular activities both in school and outside of it. Whatever interests they choose to pursue, we will be there to support them in it. Life is a journey, and one we would love to take with them.
Should you choose us as parents for your child, we also want you to know that we will send you pictures and letters of your child and their journey through life. If you would like to be more involved, then we are open to discussing exchanging emails, texts and video chat with you, as well. We truly appreciate you and your story, and believe it will be important for our child to know about you and where they come from. We want to respect you and your wishes, and look forward to navigating life after.
Again, thank you so much for taking the time to look at our profile. We realize that there may be quite a few adoptive family profiles for you to look through - with a lot of information to process - and truly appreciate you taking the time to go through ours and learn about our lives. We can only imagine what difficulties you may be facing, and we pray that God will give you strength and peace in the days to come.
