Frances & Megan
We believe that being a parent is the greatest gift and challenge that any person can have. As parents we will impart the importance of love, empathy, compassion, humor and being a good human. We look forward to welcoming a child into our family and providing a loving and supportive home. We sincerely hope that you are able to find and choose the best for you and your child, whatever that may look like.
Our Favorite Vacation Spot
We really love hiking and exploring national parks as well as trying new restaurants and catching outdoor concerts. A perfect vacation day is getting out on a trail early, hiking all day and then grabbing dinner at a great restaurant or cooking a good meal together. We loved going out west to Colorado and Utah. One of our favorite vacation memories was at Zion National Park in Utah; we got into the park in the early morning hours before sunrise and made our way up the steepest trail to the highest point within the park. It was quite exhilarating and terrifying as we crossed the last narrow stretch and realized our growing fear of heights but it was well worth it for the incredible view and adventure.
On our vacations we thoroughly enjoy taking in scenic views, chatting with friendly hikers and the time to reconnect with each other. We cannot wait to share vacations like this with our kids. We are excited get a child hiking pack to allow us to easily explore the outdoors with them and foster their natural love and curiosity of nature.
We believe that representation within a community is incredibly important. We live in a diverse area and plan to seek out doctors, dentists, and community members that are of the same race as our child. We will become involved in cultural groups and organizations that align with the race(s) of the child we adopt. We anticipate becoming part of an online and/or in person transracial adoption community to help us and our child learn and grow together.
We enjoy learning about and experiencing different cultures and plan to share that excitement with our child. Many of our close friends have different cultural backgrounds, heritages and traditions and we are excited for our child to be exposed to those cultures. We believe that food is an important tie to culture and something that we plan to use to teach our child about other cultures.
Our Dogs, Kayda & Bilbo
We have two Siberian huskies- Kayda and Bilbo. They bring us so much joy and keep us active with two walks daily around the neighborhood plus usually an extra-long walk along the water on nice weekends. They help remind us to slow down, take time to play and be present in the moment. We've had Kayda for 7 years and Bilbo for 6 years, they have been with us for the majority of our relationship and are truly part of our family. They have been with us through all our moves and have developed big, adorable personalities that make us smile every day. Kayda is an independent, spunky and vocal husky and not shy about letting you know how she feels. Bilbo is the most sweet and playful boy, every night around the same time he will bring his toys to us to inspire us to play with him. Every time our nieces and nephews see us, they ask about the pups or, if they are with us, they are constantly cuddling and playing with them. They will be wonderful companions for a child.
Our Extended Families
We come from very different family sizes. Megan has one sister and Frances has five siblings. The majority of Frances' family live in Missouri, including our 9 nieces and nephews on that side. Megan's family lives a couple hours away and we see them once every month or so but video chat regularly in between visits to stay caught up. We visit a lot in the summer and spend time relaxing, cooking together, kayaking and playing with our niece. Megan's parents have a lot of land in with a large garden that provides us with tons of fresh veggies all summer long.
We live about 8 hours from most of Frances' family and usually take a couple of longer trips to visit them, usually the week of Thanksgiving and then a week in the summer. Typically, some of Frances' family comes up to visit in the summer and we take them hiking and kayaking and play lots of board and yard games together. This past summer we had three of our nieces and nephews come to stay with us for a week and we had so much fun cooking dinner together and being out on the water.
All of our extended family are very excited and supportive of our plan to adopt. Our parents are extremely excited to welcome another grandchild and our nieces and nephews can't wait to have another cousin!
Our House and Neighborhood
Last year we bought our home and have loved getting to make it our own. Our home has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a living room, a great room with a fire place and a large fenced in back yard. The rooms we spend the most time in are our kitchen and great room. We love cooking together but nothing beats cuddling up next to the fire for a movie or game night!
Our neighborhood is a fun, active and diverse place with lots of young families. We've had get togethers with some of the other families with younger kids and can't wait for our child to have kids their age in the neighborhood to grow up with. We always see families walking together, kids riding their bikes around or playing games of baseball or basketball in the neighborhood.
Down the street there is a park with soccer and baseball fields as well as volleyball and basketball courts, a playground and dog park. We run or walk through the park with our dogs almost every day and there is never a shortage of families out enjoying the space together. We are a short drive from the lakes in town and we love taking the dogs on walks along the water or getting out on the water with family and friends.
From Us to You
We met 8 and 1/2 years ago at a chemistry research internship and quickly bonded over cooking, kayaking and science. We've followed each other through many different midwestern states as we've pursued our education and careers. Four years into our relationship we were fortunate enough to get married surrounded by our friends and family. After our years together we communicate, love and support each other more than ever.
Currently Megan works as a resident family physician at our local hospitals and clinic. She has been pursuing this career for many years and she is very excited to finish her training in 2022 and care for kids, adults and families. Frances is a corporate senior quality representative at a global food and beverage company and works from home. She manages and designs the systems used by plants across the country and enjoys working with people from all over to improve systems and make their lives easier. Frances also teaches an online college chemistry course a couple times a year and loves getting to explain chemistry concepts in a variety of ways to help students grasp the material.
As a couple we enjoy cooking and take every opportunity to make home cooked meals, try new recipes and adapt them into our family favorites. We love sharing our food at board game nights with family and friends. We also know how much culture is tied to food and we've enjoyed experiencing and recreating different cultural dishes, and we look forward to sharing this passion with our child. We try to take advantage of every opportunity to get outdoors, whether that be daily dog walks around our neighborhood to hiking trails to vacations in national parks. Regardless of the location, we are happy to experience nature together and reconnect. Thinking ahead to parenthood we are ecstatic to share our love of food, games and nature with our child and see their curiosity and personality shape us and our lives.
Along our journey together we've always been preparing and planning to grow our family through adoption. What we want more than anything is to have a child and give them all the love and support that we can. We would rather support and love a child that is already conceived or born rather than using our resources to create a new life. Having a biological connection would not change that level of support and love.
Thinking ahead to parenthood has pushed us to reflect on what we value and what we hope to instill in our child. We have come to realize that the values we strive to live by are love, humor, responsibility, compassion, gratitude, emotional intelligence and doing the right thing. We hope that through living these values our child will grow into a driven and empathetic person who makes those around them feel valued and leaves the world a better place.
Thank you for putting the emotional investment into the adoption process and into getting to know us through our profile. We want you to know that you are loved and that we sincerely hope you are able to find and choose the best for you and your child, whatever that may look like. If you choose us, we would be happy to share in your child's journey through letters, emails and pictures and we will always speak highly of you and honor you in our words and actions. In our home your child would know your love and selflessness and we will strive to emulate that same selfless nature as a family.
