Adoption in Our Lives

Our Family at Lake Superior

Adoption has already touched our lives in the most wonderful way — we adopted our son, Joshua, in 2014. We found out very close to midnight the night before he was born that his mom was in labor and we drove almost 18 hours straight to go meet our son! Our drive was filled with so much excitement and wonder and we could hardly contain ourselves! We definitely could not get there fast enough! We had been in love with this child even before we were matched and the moment we saw him gave us so much joy and happiness. It was nothing like anything we could've ever imagined or had experienced.

Josh

Josh just turned 6 years old and is a very funny, kind, smart, and active little boy. He is loving and sensitive and always lights up a room with his smile and laughter. Josh enjoys school and church activities loves playing with his cousins and friends as much as he can. He is very close with all of his grandparents and our dog Maizey is one of his best buddies too! We encourage him to always try his best and are very proud of everything he does! He is very excited in the hopes of having adding another child to our family and will definitely be a great big brother!

Our Leisure Time

Sitting By the Campfire

We are a very close family and really enjoy spending time with each other. We enjoy riding our bikes, playing card and board games, playing with Legos and other toys, and visiting some of the local parks near us.

We have movie nights at least once a week and even transform our family room into a theater as best we can. We move around the furniture and cover the windows to make it feel like we are actually at the show! A night at the show would not be complete without lots of buttery popcorn, too!

S'mores

Camping is a big part of our summers and fall and we try to go as much as we can. We enjoy being outdoors and cooking over the fire as well as being able to relax and take a break from what's going on in the world and our sometimes busy schedules. Often times we go by ourselves but also like to go with family and friends. We have a pop up camper that comfortably sleeps 5 and have room for our dog.

Family is very important to us and we like to get together with them whenever we can through birthday celebrations, holidays, and impromptu barbecues and dinners.

Music is also a big part of our lives. We like all different types of music and whether we are in the car, working around the house, or just sitting and relaxing, music is almost always playing.

Cultural Diversity

We are very open to the possibility of adopting a child of a different race and culture that may differ from our own. We believe that knowing one's background and history is very important and those are some of the things that can help shape the person that they will become. As a family we will work together and to help make sure our child feels connected to their culture and background and will use any experience that would be available to us. One important way would be reaching out to other family and friends that we may have of that particular culture, including the child's birth parents. We will also read books, watch videos, visit museums, and possibly travel to areas that can help us all learn about and celebrate that child's culture. Also, our community prides itself about being culturally diverse. There are many different churches, organizations, events, and festivals that honor and present our many cultures that reside in our city and surrounding areas. We think it's very important for all persons to learn about the different cultures and races of the world and appreciate the fact that our neighborhood and community has so many ways to help us achieve that.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We moved into our house 12 years ago and it is very close to where the two of us grew up. We have a large yard with a lot of flowers and soft, green grass to enjoy. We built a playscape with swings, a slide, and a small climbing wall that our son loves to play on. We love to use our firepit on nice evenings where we can relax and make gooey s'mores together. Our home has good-sized bedrooms, a large living room that opens up into the dining area, and a spacious basement. We also have a nice family room with a beautiful fireplace and big comfy couches to curl up on. We spend most of our time there watching TV and movies, reading books, playing with toys and games, as well as overall relaxing while at home. Our kitchen has a lot of counter space which allows us to prepare meals together as well as bake lots of goodies to share.

Our neighborhood is quiet with many friendly neighbors and kids of all ages. The schools in the area are recognized with many excellence awards for education and academics and offer many opportunities to help the kids grow and learn. There are a lot of parks in our community that we like to visit and enjoy. One large park in particular has walking and bike paths that follow a winding river through the woods and offers numerous play areas, picnic spaces, and activities throughout the year like a cool, new splash pad, festivals, and a big farmers market. Our community prides itself on being very culturally diverse. There are many different churches, organizations, and events that celebrate this diversity. We believe that children should have as many different life experiences as possible and appreciate the fact that our neighborhood and community has so many ways to achieve that.

Our Extended Families

Steve's Family

Family is very important to us and is considered to be a major priority in our lives. We are very close to both of our families and see and talk to everyone on a pretty regular basis. They all get along great allowing us to have many joint get-togethers, birthday parties, holidays, and picnics. We all live within 20 minutes of each other with the exception of one of Steve's sisters and her family, who live out of state. However, we talk and see them as much as possible.

LeAnn's Family

We have 11 nieces and nephews of various ages and are pretty active in their lives. We love to watch and support them in all of their activities and have sleepovers and hang out whenever we can. We like to go to plays and concerts, watch movies, camp, and go on vacations together whenever possible. Uncle Steve makes giant pancakes for all the kids when they come over and we like to play board games and eat yummy snacks and desserts as well. We always have a great time and laugh A LOT!

Everyone in our family is very excited for our journey to adopt again. Our son was immediately loved, accepted, and a bit spoiled and another child that comes into our lives will be equally cherished and supported as well.

From Us to You

We want to thank you for taking the time in considering us and to learn about us as a family and our lives. We are in awe of your love and kindness and we greatly admire your strength and courage to consider adoption.

We have been married for over 20 years and tried to have children pretty early in our new life together. After discovering that it would not be possible, we decided that adopting a child was the right choice for us. We adopted our son six years ago and he was the best gift we could've ever hoped for. Not only were we able to fulfill our dreams of having children, we were also able to help someone else by providing a loving and caring home for their child.

We dream of welcoming another baby into our family and look forward to offering everything they could ever need. We are very close as a family and cannot wait to share our love with another child. Your child will become an important part of a fun, loving, supportive, and wonderful family. We are very excited to be starting the journey to adopt again and to be able to add even more joy to our lives as well as having a brother or sister for our child.

We are very close with our entire families and are truly blessed to have them in our lives. Our family is full of caring, supportive, and fun-loving people and we really enjoy spending time together. We all encourage and help one another in all aspects of our lives and strive to be great role models and mentors for each other and each others children. Everyone is extremely excited to welcome another member to our amazing family and are overjoyed to be able to be involved in the child's life.

We are both practicing Christians and will raise our child within the church and teach them about God's love and mercy. We attend our church regularly and are active in some of the different programs it has to offer including the children's ministry.

We are open to the idea of meeting you and keeping in touch not only through the pictures and letters, but even possibly through emails, texts, or phone calls at the comfort level of everyone.

We know that there are many couples and families for you to choose from and will pray for you in making the best decision for you and your child. If you decide to choose us we promise to love, support, provide the best education we can, and give them everything they need to be happy and feel loved and accepted.

We are truly honored and humbled that you have taken the time to look at us as a potential family for your child and wish you the very best.

With Kind Regards,

Steven & LeAnn
