Andrew & Kristin
Thank you so much for taking the time to look over our profile. We have been looking forward to growing our family for quite some time now, and are ready to provide guidance, support, and unconditional love to this child. We wish you the best as you are considering your options, and hope that you feel loved and supported along your journey.
Our Leisure Time
In our free time, we love to travel and spend time with family and friends. Three of our best friends live in Arizona, so we like to travel there 1-2x a year to spend time with their families and escape the winter cold! We also enjoy exploring new places, and were lucky enough to go on a Mediterranean cruise last year, where we were able to check four countries off of our bucket list. When we are not traveling, we like to stay active and sign up for 5Ks, crossfit competitions, or play sports recreationally like tennis, golf, or sand volleyball.
As much as we like to go do things, we are also homebodies, and enjoy spending time hanging around the house with our dogs, watching sports or catching up on a Netflix documentary or series. We see our extended family on at least a weekly basis, and love planning activities with our nieces and nephews. We can't wait to have a little one in our lives to bring on our adventures with us, and to start new traditions that we can do as a family.
Our Dogs, Iggy & Mo
We have two dogs, Iggy and Mo, who are a very important part of our family! We got them a few months after getting married, and within just a few weeks, so that they would be able to grow up together and keep each other company while we are at work. Mo is a miniature Schnauzer and is the biggest snuggler you can imagine. We have hundreds of pictures where he is lying on Kristin's chest, and she often refers to him as her "furry little infant." He loves attention, burrowing under the covers, and lying on the top of the couch. Mo was named after our college mascot, Mo the Mule.
Iggy is a miniature Australian Shepherd, and has a bit more energy than Mo. Iggy loves playing with her tennis ball outside, and even watches TV. (Seriously, she barks when animals are on TV, she is not a fan of the Geico gecko.) Iggy loves when our friends bring their children over, and often tries to give them kisses. One of our friend's three-year-old daughters made up a song about Iggy when she was at preschool, and refers to Iggy as "her sweetie." Iggy was named after Iggy Azalea, because we thought it was only appropriate to name her after someone from Australia. Our dogs can't wait to have a child at home to love, protect, and play with!
Adoption in Our Lives
Adoption has always been near and dear to our hearts, thanks in large part to the many adopted children in Kristin's family. At 19, Kristin worked as a full-time nanny for one of her cousins shortly after he joined our family. They were able to form such a strong bond over that summer, that was filled with visiting parks, going to restaurants, swimming, and spending time with our Grandparents. He has now grown into an intelligent, opinionated, and caring 16 year old, and we can't imagine life without him! We spend time with him and his younger brother most weekends for Sunday dinners, and get to attend his band concerts throughout the year.
The flower girl from our wedding is another wonderful adopted child that is an important member of our family. She was so sweet on our wedding day, always trying to independently carry the train on Kristin's dress, and join in on the conversations about how humid is was outside, but instead saying, "it's so human out here guys!". We continue to say it's "human" outside on hot summer days six years later! She is now very spunky, and a talented dancer, and we are so proud of her! This child will have many adopted family members that he or she will be able to form special bonds with.
Our Extended Families
We have a very close relationship with both sides of our families, with Kristin's parents living only 15 minutes away. We visit Kristin's parents on at least a weekly basis, and always eat Sunday dinner together with her parents, brother, and sometimes even aunts, uncles, and cousins. We are also able to spend holidays with her large extended family, as many of them also live locally. One of Kristin's uncles is a college football coach, so football season is always a fun, family filled time where we enjoy traveling to games or hosting watch parties! Kristin's side of the family is full of adoptees, with one cousin that was adopted from China, one from Russia, and two that were adopted domestically as infants.
Andrew's side of the family lives two hours away, so we are also able to spend time with them on a regular basis. Andrew's parents, two siblings, and five nieces and nephews all live within a 15 minute range of each other, and all gather together when we are in town to socialize and eat some delicious food. Andrew's Dad is an avid griller, although our nieces and nephews are usually too busy playing together to sit down and eat a full meal.
Both of our families are thrilled that we are adopting, and we can't wait to see this child grow up with so many loving grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins!
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a suburb outside of a larger city in the Midwest. We built our home in 2016, and it has four bedrooms and three bathrooms. We love that our house backs up to a wooded area, as it adds an element of privacy, and we sometimes see deer and turkey. We have a large fenced in backyard that our dogs love to run around in. We also have a small hill in the backyard that has been used by our nephews for slip n slides in the summer and sledding in the winter. We have a perfect spot picked out for a swing set for a child to play on in the future.
Our neighborhood has a wonderful swimming pool complete with a slide and splash pad. We are fortunate to live in a diverse neighborhood with lots of young children. Our next-door neighbors have two kids under four years old, who love to come check on us while we are working out in the garage.
Our home is around 20 minutes away from downtown, so we can conveniently access Lego land, the Aquarium, the Zoo, Science City, and too many parks to count. We can't wait to explore our city with a child!
From Us to You
Thank you for taking the time to read our profile and get to know a little bit about us. We know that you must be going through a very difficult time right now, and that you have many challenging decisions to make. Please know that even if you do not choose us to be the parents for your child, we are thinking of you, and wish you the best in your life, and hope that you have peace with whatever decision you make.
We have always known that we would someday adopt a child, however for some reason we thought that we would have a biological child first, and then adopt after that. After years of infertility and miscarriages, we finally realized that our plan was supposed to be adoption from the start. We are so lucky to have so many adopted children in our extended family already, so have a clear picture of what open adoption looks like, as well as seeing firsthand how these kids are thriving as valued members of our family.
For our future child, we value the importance of raising someone with strong moral character that treats everyone with respect and kindness. We want this child to be strong willed and independent, and know that they are capable of doing anything they want in life. We are ready to devote our lives to this child, and be sure that they feel unconditionally loved and supported every day. Whatever they decide they want to do, be it sports, an instrument, advanced academics, or drama classes, this child will have us behind them as their biggest cheerleaders through life.
We are very excited for our future. We started dating 11 years ago, and have been married for 6 years. Our struggles with infertility are a testament to our relationship, and we are confident that we are able to support each other through whatever life throws our way. Our families could not be more excited to welcome a child into our family, and Kristin's Mom has already decided she will be retiring as soon as they arrive so that she can be a "full-time Grandma".
We want to be straightforward and honest in regards to adoption, and we want this child to know that everyone involved loves them and has their best interest at heart. We will be committed to sharing pictures, letters, and emails with you if you desire, so that you can watch them grow and celebrate their accomplishments alongside us. We are also open to the discussion of in person visits on yearly basis if this is something you would be comfortable with. We love the idea that you would become a member of our extended family as well.
Thank you again for considering us to be parents for your child. It's difficult for us to express how much we are looking forward to expanding our family, and we can't wait to make lifelong memories with this child.
With Love and Respect,
Andrew & Kristin
