Andrew & Amy
We appreciate that you are taking the time to read our profile and get to know us! We have so much love, laughter, and kindness in our home and we cannot wait to share that with a child! We hope that you consider us, and if you decide we are the right fit, we would be honored to be your child's parents!
Our Favorite Vacation Spot
Our favorite vacation spot is a small lake in northern Wisconsin called Crystal Lake. It's a lake that Amy grew up camping on every year for as long as she can remember. Her dad even grew up camping on the same lake with his family. After two years of dating, Amy introduced Andrew to Crystal Lake. It's a wonderful family campground, and very popular. It books up 11 months in advance and every year we try to get a camping spot on the lake! Our favorite activities to do while camping at Crystal Lake are walk around the aptly-named crystal clear lake, read, play games, and have a campfire every night. We're learning each year more ways to make different campfire meals, and have even figured out how to have a hot cup of coffee every morning. We are looking forward to continuing this family tradition with our children and hope they love Crystal Lake as much as we do.
Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other
Amy About Andrew: One of my favorite songs by Ingrid Michaelson says it best: "...you take me the way I am." Andrew has always made me feel that I don't need to be anybody but myself. He is very witty, kind and caring, and the best supportive partner I could ever hope for. I tend to be more of a homebody, so I also really appreciate his outgoing personality. I am very excited to see him as a parent, because I think our little baby is going to having him completely wrapped around their tiny fingers.
Andrew About Amy: Amy has, without ever actively pushing, made me a better person. She supported me through two degrees and helped me achieve my goal of becoming an attorney. I love her sense of humor, kindness, and her loving personality. Amy truly loves helping and supporting people. I cannot wait to watch her with our children.
"We promise to teach our baby to love your baby." That is our motto when it comes to diversity. Recent, and not-so-recent, events have forced us to examine our white privilege even more than we already had. Whether we adopt a child of another race or not, we will teach our children that racism exists and teach them, while continuing to learn ourselves, how to be actively anti-racist. We will teach them that to be colorblind is to turn yourself off to reality and what is happening around us. Different races and cultures exist, and that is a beautiful thing. We will teach our children to appreciate and learn from the different cultures we encounter, and how to stand up and fight when we witness injustice. We believe the world is big enough, and better off with different races, religious beliefs, and genders.
Our House and Neighborhood
Our home is a two-bedroom, two-bathroom home, big enough for our small family, but something we hope to expand on in the future as our family grows.
One of the benefits of living in the city we do is that we are able to live in a quiet neighborhood made up of a mixture of single and multi-family homes, yet we are still close to many family activities. We live within walking distance of a nice park with swings, climbing equipment, and a basketball court. We live right off a scenic biking and walking path set among a marsh, pond, and nature conservancy. We enjoy nightly walks through our neighborhood with our dog where we meet many families with dogs and young children of their own.
We are only a short, 10-minute drive to activities such as the children's museum, botanical gardens, and a really great zoo (the same one Amy grew up visiting!).
We are also very close to the lakes where we often go boating with family and friends, and a pool that belongs to a friend where we love to spend hot summer weekends.
Our Extended Families
We are both extremely lucky to be close with our families.
Holidays are spent split between both families, but we see them often in between. Amy's dad lives only 10 minutes away, and he is very excited for the addition of his first grandchild. Amy's mom passed away recently, but was really looking forward to a grandchild and would have made a wonderful grandmother.
Both of us have one older sister, living in different states, which gives us places to visit. Amy's sister, Amanda, lives in Maine where she runs an oyster farm, attends school, and recently started teaching a college-level class!
Andrew's sister, Bethany, lives in Minnesota with her husband, Nathaniel, and two children. Bethany and Nathaniel have dedicated their lives to working for Campus Crusade for Christ. We are excited for our niece and nephew, Lincoln and Juliet, to show our little one how much fun cousins are. Andrew's parents live close to Bethany and her family, although they often travel to Wisconsin and stop in to say hi and we suspect they will be visiting a lot more once they have another grandbaby.
Outside of our immediate families, we love to visit extended family in California and Arizona, especially to escape the cold, long winters in Wisconsin!
From Us to You
Thank you for taking the time to get to know us!
We admire you so much for considering adoption. We know this is a confusing and difficult time for you while you are trying to figure out the best option for you and your precious baby. We sincerely hope that you are receiving the support and love you need during this journey and cannot wait to add our love and support.
We want you to know that if you decide we would be the right parents to your child, he or she will be welcomed into a loving family, full of grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. We look forward to this child becoming a part of our family traditions of camping, Christmas mornings, and making Lefse (a Norwegian potato bread) for Thanksgiving. We would love to learn if there are any family traditions of your own that we could incorporate into our family so he or she can always feel connected to you.
Your child will also be welcomed into a giant family of friends. We have a very close friend group, which already includes multiple children and more on the way! We see these friends weekly, take yearly vacations together, and cannot wait for the next generation of kids to bond with each other the way we all have.
We have had a wonderful nine years together so far, and we can only imagine how many adventures we have yet to have together. We have been lucky enough to experience many things with each other including road trips to Niagara Falls and Nashville; tropical vacations to Punta Cana and Riviera Maya with friends; concerts like Ed Sheeran, Mumford and Sons, Macklemore, and many others; countless camping trips with family, friends, and just each other; outdoor adventures like four-wheeling, snowmobiling, and kayaking down the Wisconsin River; and of course, all the wonderful nights spent at home just with each other, and our dog and cat, watching shows like The Great British Baking Show, Amazing Race, Law and Order, and Blue Bloods (to name a few!).
We have supported each other through school and the loss of loved ones, and leaned on each other as we learned that the birth of a child was not something we would end up experiencing. Adoption had always been something we planned to do, it just became an adventure we would embark on sooner than planned when we learned that having a diabetic pregnancy would present lasting, damaging effects to Amy, her body, and a child.
Our four-legged babies, Neville and Skylar, are also very excited to welcome home a baby. Neville, our 1.5-year-old dog, grew very fond of the three children in his foster home and continues to express his love for children with whines and squeals when we encounter them on walks or the dog park. He and our cat Skylar will take their job as "protector of baby" very seriously.
We would love to share with you your child's growth and experiences through photos in letters and emails, or phone calls. We will always be open and honest with your child in regards to adoption. We will make sure that they know how much you love them and how hard the decision of adoption was for you. You will always be reflected positively to them.
Words cannot express how excited we are to become parents and expand our family. We have so much room in our hearts and so much love to give a child. We know that it would not be possible without your strength, courage, and the love you have for your child.
With much gratitude,
Andrew & Amy
