Kevin & Stephanie
Although we haven't met yet, we admire your strength and courage. We hope this gives you a better picture of our lives. As parents, love is what we can promise - we have a lot to share. We know you've got a lot, too! And, we promise to raise your child to know you. Thank you for your consideration and generosity.
Adoption in Our Lives
Adoption is an amazing journey. Kevin and his sister were both adopted at birth and a number of close family and friends are also adopted. Kevin's adoptive parents have wonderful stories to share of picking Kevin up at the hospital, bringing him home and introducing him to his big sister who was so excited to get to know baby Kevin! His childhood is full of fond memories. Kevin is so appreciative of the sacrifice his birth parents made in order to give him the opportunities he had growing up.
We look forward to celebrating a little one's roots and sharing their birth story with them so they're able to appreciate the significance and importance of adoption. We hope to facilitate a bond between the adopted child and their birth parent/s. We feel it's important for kids to know their story, their birth family and identify with their cultural heritage. We've both been blessed with large supportive families and want our child to have that same benefit.
Our Leisure Time
During our leisure time, we like to take a break from the daily routine of computers and phones and get outdoors for fresh air and exercise. We both love hiking, riding our bikes, attending sporting events, going to the farmer's market or even just spending time in the backyard gardening or grilling. In the winter months when it's really frigid, we love playing board games and working on puzzles, watching movies and getting creative in the kitchen!
Whenever we can, we connect with family members and friends and enjoy traveling to different parts of the states and even abroad to see them. With family living from Florida to Oregon and California to New York, there is always a fun trip to make to reconnect with loved ones.
Closer to home, Kevin enjoys volunteering at the local food pantry where he's worked for 10 years. Stephanie goes to the neighborhood yoga studio on the weekends.
What It Means to Become Parents
To us, being parents means sharing experiences and guiding a little one through life. We anticipate parenthood to include love, admiration, mentoring, discipline, fun and perhaps a bit of stress/worry. We look forward to teaching a child what we know and exposing them to different people, cultures, foods and everything else that makes our world interesting.
We know there will be challenges along the way but think the biggest reward of parenthood will be seeing a little one blossom and grow. We were both blessed to grow up in loving, constructive environments with parents and siblings who helped shape and nurture us. We hope to bring this level of support to our parenting style while also giving the little one courage to navigate life's obstacles.
This child will know their adoption story and we will encourage him/her to embrace the love they have in their life. While life has its challenges, it's also full of love and hope. It takes failure to succeed and we're excited to help this child get up when they fall. We know there is deeper meaning in shaping a child to be able to succeed on their own.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a humble, secure community in Illinois full of families and children enjoying parks, bike riding, attending sporting events (Go Cubs!) and shopping during all seasons of the year.
We like to spend time biking along the lakefront, going to concerts, visiting our local library, watching movies in the historic movie theater down the street and taking in all the seasons. Kevin enjoys fishing, golfing and spending time with neighborhood friends grilling and taking in the nice summer weather. Stephanie is an avid hiker, enjoys practicing yoga and loves going to baseball games.
We also have a cottage on Lake Michigan a couple hours away that provides us with an escape from the hustle and bustle when we're looking for some down time. Our homes are smaller in size but full of character with plenty of outdoor space to play, BBQ and enjoy time with our friends and neighbors.
Our Extended Families
Kevin grew up in a loving family with his parents, sister, extended relatives and lots of furry friends. Kevin has fond memories of traveling with his family in an RV across country and into Canada and Mexico, meeting up with relatives along the way. Included on the itinerary was a stop at the World's Biggest Picnic Basket in Newark, Ohio!
Stephanie is the third of four children from a fun and loving family with roots in Kansas. With a large extended family, holiday gatherings are always eventful. This includes the time her grandpa brought out an old box of Christmas lights to decorate the tree. He opened it by the fireplace and it unleashed a swarm of baby flies which apparently were hibernating in the box - opening gifts and for the rest of the evening everyone was dodging and swatting flies!
We're blessed with our close families and each other and want to share our love with a little one to help them grow and flourish. We hope to bring your child into our family and share the love we have both been blessed with.
Our extended family traditions include gathering together for holidays and celebrations, traveling, attending sporting events and dance recitals, playing board games, putting together puzzles, camping, biking, and participating in community projects.
From Us to You
Your strength and courage is admirable in considering adoption for your child. It is not an easy decision and we're both encouraged by your selfless act of kindness. Personally, we realize the weight of your decision. Kevin was adopted at a young age but didn't have the opportunity to know his birth mother. He grew up in a loving family but due to the closed adoption culture of the time didn't get to meet his birth parents. Should our wishes come true and we're able to adopt a child, we want to be sure that the child knows his/her birth family and adoption story and how important and loved they are.
We want nothing more than to be good parents and role models and to share our experiences and love with a little one. We look forward to raising a healthy, happy child and teaching them to love themselves, others and enjoy all life has to offer. We are excited with the opportunity to help develop, guide and play with a little one as they grow into a strong, independent and loving person. Whether the child shows interest in Little League, ballet, science, 4H or painting, we will encourage them to explore these pursuits and more. Our goal is to be supportive parents who attend games and recitals and look after the little one and their teammates, classmates and friends.
We have been married for four years and have known each other for over 20. The past four years of marriage have been amazing and we're thrilled to start the next chapter in our life focusing our time and sense of adventure with a little one. We have been blessed with a lot of love and are eager to share this love and begin our next chapter with your kindness, generosity and gratitude. We're not so thrilled about changing dirty diapers, sleep deprivation or discussing the birds & the bees but assure you we'll embrace each sticky situation to the best of our ability and persevere with another memory to add to the journal of life.
Our families and friends mean a lot to us and we are fortunate to have them in our lives. With a strong foundation, unrelenting love and nurturing, we are eager to start this journey with you and your child. A meaningful education – both inside and outside the classroom – is important to develop skills beyond what's learned in books. We'll continue to engage in activities within our diverse community to help this child grow strong in character, culture and self-confidence. We look forward to building traditions with a little one including gathering every evening around the family dinner table, reading before bed each night, getting lots of outdoor exercise and fresh air, learning to love vegetables, treating animals with kindness, exploring, failing, succeeding, travelling, challenging themselves and appreciating family and friendships.
We promise to send letters and pictures of the child so you can keep track of their milestones, watching them grow and keeping tabs on what they learn and accomplish. We also hope to exchange emails and photos online as well as plan occasional visits. Whatever your comfort-level, we want to meet you there!
Thank you for your consideration of us as adoptive parents for your child. We wish you the best of luck with your pregnancy and adoption decision!
