Matt & Brittany
We are incredibly thankful that you are viewing our profile! As educators, we work with children everyday and treat our students as if they are our own. We are thrilled to become first-time parents! We believe adoption is a beautiful experience and this child will be surrounded by love. We know this may be challenging for you, but we are here, ready to provide a fun, loving, caring and supportive home for your child.
Our Life Priorities
Our life priorities involve our family and friends. We know that life is short, so it's important to surround ourselves with good people and to enjoy all of life's moments.
Every Saturday, we get together with Brittany's family for dinner. When the weather is nice out, Brittany's dad makes the best burgers and hot dogs on the grill. We also love playing outdoor games including bags. A new favorite hobby is singing, playing, and dressing up our niece in the latest baby fashion trends.
Matt's family in Kansas flies in a few times a year to celebrate holidays, birthdays and many other milestones. We love to take them downtown to enjoy Chicago's deep dish pizza, musicals and tourist attractions including Cubs games. We also love having Matt's younger sister and brother-in-law just a short drive away, especially now that we can get together and play with their 1-year old son.
On weekends, we often get together with our nearby friends. We enjoy sitting on their Chicago rooftops and playing card games. We periodically meet at different brunch spots throughout Chicago. We have made such close connections with our friends, that Matt even officiated two of their weddings! As many of our friends are starting to grow their families, we are excited to know that we have a strong support system to accompany us throughout our adoption journey.
Our Leisure Time
We embody the motto, "work hard, play hard." After a week of working with our students, we try to make the most out of our leisure time.
Every summer, we love to travel. Both of our families love to join us on our trips, especially when we go to Florida and Las Vegas. We even had a destination wedding in California.
One of our favorite memories was our trip to Arizona. We took a jeep tour in Sedona and watched the sunset. We loved shopping in downtown Scottsdale at their antique stores. Our trip ended at Churn, the most delicious ice cream we have ever had!
When we're not traveling, we can be found dining at Italian, Mexican or steakhouse restaurants followed by fun activities such as musicals, concerts or sporting events with friends. Our favorite musicals are Hamilton and Wicked, and our favorite concert was Elton John.
We are fun, outgoing and active. We enjoy going on walks, doing yoga and working out at the gym. Every Friday, we have a family tradition of making dinner together along with watching our favorite TV shows including: Friends, America's Got Talent, anything on Netflix, and Chicago, Iowa, and Kansas sports.
What It Means to Become Parents
We have learned from our close family and friends how rewarding it is to be a parent. We both work with children in our everyday jobs. Brittany treats her students as if they are her own children and Matt always has fun with his students as well. We will provide our child with a loving, supportive, caring, safe and structured home. We will be there to cheer on our child through their successes and to mentor and teach them as they grow. We want our child to know that we support them no matter what and that it's okay to make mistakes and learn from them. Our child will grow up with a loving family where it's safe to be themselves. As parents, we want our child to feel comfortable and create a trusting relationship with us. Most importantly, we are excited to spend time together as a family doing activities, going on vacations and being with the rest of our extended family.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a three-bedroom townhome in a suburban neighborhood near Chicago. Our home is very meaningful to us because it is our first home and we were able to watch it being built two years ago.
Our neighborhood is filled with diverse families with young kids. We are a five minute walk from our neighborhood park. Also nearby is a lake that offers swimming, boating and tubing. In the summer, we love to be by the beach and to BBQ with our neighbors. We often go on walks and explore the neighborhood. You can always find kids laughing and playing outside when the weather is nice.
In addition, our neighborhood is unique because of it's nearby attractions. We are right by the local mall, many restaurants and lots of local ice cream options! There are also many indoor activities that we enjoy doing such as bowling, ice skating and going to the movies.
Our neighborhood also feeds into a highly ranked school system. Our local high school was in the top 100 schools in Illinois. Education is very important to us, so we wanted to make sure that we lived in a diverse and supportive educational district.
When choosing a neighborhood for our first home it was important to us that it be family-friendly with a welcoming community. We cannot wait to bring your child home to our safe and loving home.
Our Extended Families
Family means everything to us. We were both raised in homes that emphasized the importance of family.
Brittany has been surrounded by family her entire life. To this day, we live within a 20 minute drive to her parents, sister and brother-in-law and their baby, grandma, aunts and uncles and her cousins. Each holiday, Brittany's family takes turns hosting everyone at their homes, celebrating all together.
Matt moved to Illinois from Kansas, where both his parents, older sister and brother-in-law reside along with their two sons. Following in Matt's footsteps, his younger sister also moved to Illinois, where she currently lives with her husband and their one year old son.
Brittany's family has a tradition of going on family vacations every summer. When going on vacation, we enjoy laying by the pool, trying out new restaurants and shopping. We have been to Florida, Las Vegas, California and Wisconsin. We can't wait to go on more trips in the future as we grow our family.
Matt's family enjoys spending holidays together as well. Matt's family travels to Illinois to celebrate together and we often roadtrip to Kansas to be with them. Our favorite tradition is opening up presents together over the holidays.
Our family has been nothing but supportive throughout our adoption journey. They are beyond thrilled to have another baby in the family to shower with love.
From Us to You
First off, we want to thank you for taking the time to consider us. We can't imagine how difficult this decision must be for you. Please know that choosing us will provide your child with a safe, loving, fun and caring home.
A little bit about us is that we first met a week after Matt moved to Chicago in 2012. On our first date, we bonded over the fact that we both love to have fun in everything we do. After just two months of dating, Matt confessed his love for Brittany at an Iowa Football game. We had already shared many memories including Cubs games, a Rascal Flatts concert and more! Matt knew that Brittany had a kind and loving heart, which were traits that Brittany found in Matt as well. In 2014, Matt got on one knee and proposed to Brittany at the top of the Willis Tower surrounded by our families. Two years later, we celebrated a destination wedding in California with our closest family and friends.
In 2015, Brittany had just started working as a 6th Grade Special Education Teacher, and Matt was working as a Youth Director. We knew we both shared a love for children and wanted to expand our family. After much thought and discussion, we decided that adoption was a passion that we shared and would be the best direction for us to start our family.
We are a friendly, loving and caring couple who wants to support you throughout this journey. We know that this is an emotional time for you, and we plan on making you comfortable through every step of the way. We believe open communication and discussion are key factors throughout this process. Please know that you can come to us at any point along the way with any questions or even just to talk. We will be there to support you just as we will be there for your child. If you are willing, we would love to work out an adoption plan where we provide you with letters and pictures and create an open-adoption plan through American Adoptions.
It is our goal to raise your child in a supportive, loving and safe home where they feel comfortable to be themselves. We want your child to know how much you care about them and how brave you are to make this decision. We want your child to grow up feeling confident and having the freedom to choose who they want to be when they are older with our guidance. They will grow up surrounded by family and friends and all of their achievements will be celebrated. We will parent your child by putting an emphasis on the importance of education and teach them that they can do anything they put their minds to and to never be afraid to shoot for the stars!
Thank you for considering us as potential parents for your child. We look forward to expanding our family with your help and will provide all the love and support that any child or parent could ask for. We know that you have a very difficult decision ahead of you and we will be there with you through this journey.
