Our Cultural Heritage

By the River on a Beautiful Day

Amy's cultural heritage is Venezuelan American. Amy grew up in the U.S. but her parents are from Venezuela. Growing up Amy learned about her Venezuelan culture through her parents and trips to Venezuela. Amy's first language was English, but she learned to speak Spanish as a teenager to communicate better with her extended family. Venezuelan families are close-knit and love to have family gatherings full of music, food, and dancing.

Chris' culture heritage is Chinese American. His mother is from Virginia and his father was born in New York to parents who immigrated from China. He grew up learning about both his American and Chinese backgrounds from his grandparents. He would visit his maternal grandparents in Virginia where he learned to play golf and learned about his grandfather's WWII history. Visiting his paternal grandparents in Maryland during the summer, he learned about his family's Chinese history and how they immigrated from China. Chris also spent a year and a half living and working in Venezuela where he developed a love of the people, culture, and food.

We are both fluent in Spanish and look forward to raising our child in a bilingual home speaking English and Spanish.

Our Leisure Time

In our leisure time, we enjoy spending time together and being outdoors. Going camping, fishing, and hiking are some of our favorite outdoor past times. We also love relaxing by the campfire and making s'mores or sitting in our hammocks at our campsite. We also enjoy spending time together experiencing new things such as fly fishing and exploring different state parks. We also like to spend time walking our dog and playing ball with him at our neighborhood park.

At home, we are each other's best friend and love just talking and relaxing at home. Watching movies and TV shows and reading books are some of our favorite pastimes. We also enjoy playing board games with each other and with our extended families. Being supportive of each other's hobbies is also important to us. Amy has played the cello since middle school and often will practice at home while Chris and our dog Eddie are her audience. Chris enjoys video games, building projects and learning new skills like coding. We feel that eating dinner together each night is important for a happy family, and Chris is an excellent cook who creates delicious meals. Chris loves to create new recipes for which Amy is always a willing taste tester and student.

Our Pup, Eddie

Eddie & Our Nieces

We have a great dog, Eddie, who is an important part of our family. We brought him home when he was a puppy and he has brought us so much joy. From training him we gained patience and our bond grew stronger.

Eddie is a very smart dog who enjoys being close to us and is friendly with everyone. He loves children and always loves the attention others give him when they see us walking him. A couple of Eddie's skills include singing along to the Happy Birthday song and balancing treats on his nose. He is also a favorite of the kids in the neighborhood or wherever we go for a walk since they always want to pet him since he is so fluffy and friendly.

Eddie also has a strong bond with our extended family and loves whenever they visit. We are sure Eddie will be happy to have a new addition to the family.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Lovely Home

We live in a quiet safe neighborhood built around a lake. The neighborhood lake has a walking path around it which allows for lovely walks anytime of the day. The turtles, fish, and ducks that live in the lake make walks seem like a nature hike. We have a beautiful two story house with four bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. We spend a majority of our time in our living room which has a nice view of the backyard and water fountain in the lake. Our covered backyard patio is a favorite spot when the weather is nice for grilling and relaxing as we look out to the lake.

There is a neighborhood pool and splash pad a few blocks away from our house where they hold July 4th and Labor Day community parties. The neighborhood park is next to the swimming pool and has a wonderful playground. The park is one of our favorite destinations to play ball with our dog Eddie as families play at the playground and walk the trail. There are many families that live in the neighborhood with children of all ages. There is also a highly rated public elementary school about five minutes from our home where there are many school festivals and activities throughout the year.

Our Extended Families

Amy's Family

We both have very supportive, loving, close knit extended families. Amy has two siblings and Chris is an only child. Amy's family lives in our neighborhood with her sister, sister's husband, and her nieces living next door to us. Often times, Amy will pick up her nieces from school and hang out with them at their house helping with homework or playing a board game. Amy's parents, Elsa and William, live a few blocks away and we often get together for birthday celebrations and holidays. Elsa loves cooking and makes the best arepas, a traditional Venezuelan dish. We also often get together to play tennis at a nearby high school with the whole family.

Chris' Family

Chris' parents, Betty and Eric, live in another state but we keep in contact via video calls and we meet up several times a year. Every year they come to visit us for Christmas and New Year's where we cook together and play board games. We also visit them once a year and enjoy the area they live in which is known for its picturesque scenery. They are very active in their community by being involved in environmental organizations. They have always worked hard to improve this world and leave a better one for the next generation.

Our families are very excited about our decision to adopt. We feel very fortunate to have such close families and know that they will be there for us and our child whenever needed.

From Us to You

Thank you for reading our profile and giving us the opportunity to introduce ourselves to you. We know that right now you are making a difficult decision and we appreciate your courage and strength. We hope that getting to know us and learning that we are ready to welcome your child with open arms and open hearts will bring you peace and comfort.

We are Amy and Chris and we have been happily married for 4.5 years. Since we met 7 years ago through a connection made by Amy's sister, we have become not only a loving couple but best friends as well. We knew early on that we wanted to have kids and tried on our own but were not successful. After much discussion and research, we decided on adoption as the best way to help us grow our family and are excited to embark on this amazing journey.

Chris is a Mechanical Engineer and is incredible at building and fixing things. He is patient, funny, smart, and thoughtful. Chris has wonderful work ethic and has a strong moral compass which he hopes to be an example to our future child. He is excited to not only to see a child blossom and find their own path but also to share his love of the outdoors, engineering, camping, and cooking.

Amy is a Pediatrician whose life's work is helping children grow up healthy and happy. Amy finds joy seeing her patients develop from newborns to teens. What makes her day is when she sees a child whose health is improving, and they are smiling and comfortable in her office. Amy is soft spoken, silly at times, and sweet. Being an involved 'Tia' (aunt) is especially important to Amy and she enjoys spending time with her nieces. Amy cannot wait to share in those special moments of teaching a child to read, learn Spanish, play board games together, enjoy music, and explore the wonders of the outdoors with them.

We both want to provide a warm, loving home where our future child will know that we are always there for them. We will always be there to listen and guide them through life's challenges. We believe that education is important and want to share our love of learning with our future child. We both have wonderful extended families who are very supportive and are so excited to have another child join the family.

We are ready to become the kind, loving supportive parents that will help our future child thrive and live a healthy happy life. We want to raise our future child to become kind, respectful, responsible, and open minded. We are so grateful to you for opening your heart to adoption. We will always be open with our future child about the loving birth parents who wanted the best life for them. We will keep in contact with you throughout your child's life through emails, letters, and photos so that you can share in their life experiences.

Thank you again for taking the time to read our letter and get a glimpse into our lives. We hope to speak to you soon and hope we can join you in your adoption journey.
