Our Family Traditions

At the Christmas Festival

At the holidays, we love to go to Christmas symphonies or holiday plays like A Christmas Carol and The Nutcracker. We love to get dressed up, have a special dinner, and enjoy the music or show. Our favorite is the Christmas symphony with a Christmas sing-a-long and Santa visit! We can’t wait to take a child to experience this holiday magic too. Christmas morning is our favorite time of the year- we love to give each other (and our pets) meaningful, thoughtful gifts, and are so excited to experience Christmas morning with a child.

During the summer, we go with family and friends to a lake to enjoy some time on the water in the sun. David especially loves the water- swimming, boating, and riding on a tube, and he is so excited to have fun as a family at the lake. Hannah loves fall and holiday baking, and can’t wait bake sugar cookies and decorate them with children. Birthdays are big celebrations in our house- we celebrate our dog’s birthdays too, with party hats and a dog-friendly birthday cake! We can’t wait to make a child feel so special and loved on their birthday, waking up to balloons and pancakes with sprinkles and birthday candles, and lots of family time, fun, and birthday cake.

Our Pets

Birthday Cake for the Dogs

Our two dogs and two cats are an important part of our family! Our dogs go everywhere with us – to the park, on camping trips, and on ice cream runs. We always celebrate their birthdays with party hats and a (dog-friendly) homemade birthday cake. We are excited for a child to get to experience the unconditional, pure love of a dog too. Our dogs, Beau and Josie, love to cuddle on the couch with us. They are so gentle, sweet, and patient with our nieces and nephews.

Our cats, Willie and Sunny, are soft and fluffy and love to sit on the bed with us and purr. Our pets add so much to our lives - joy and laughter to everyday; comfort and snuggles when we are sad. We both had pets as children, and we believe it’s so good for children to have pets – a big black lab to hug and snuggle, a dog to race around the backyard with, and a fluffy cat to pet. We look forward to teaching children how to take care of animals, to be gentle with animals, and to always treat animals with kindness and respect.

Discussing Adoption

At a Sunflower Festival

It’s so important to us to make sure that a child grows up always knowing their unique and special story of adoption and how loved they are by so many people. We want them to always know about this part of their story, and to never feel that it’s hidden or that they can’t ask questions or talk about it. From the time they are tiny, we would tell them stories of how their first family and first mama loved them so much to make this difficult decision for them. They should grow up always knowing how loved they are by so many different people.

We want them to always know who they are and be comfortable in their identity because their story and background is celebrated and talked about. They should never have a day where they “find out” about their adoption, because it has always been a valued part of their life. When they are a baby, we will read children’s books that include adoption stories and talk about their own story and first family as part of everyday conversation.

We plan to have an adoption baby book to tell their story to them and to keep treasured mementos in. As they grow older, we will talk to them more about their story and history, and encourage discussions, questions, and openness.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We live in a two-story house with a white and pink magnolia tree out front, a big yard, and lots of families on our street. Hannah loves our big kitchen with lots of room to bake cookies and bread, and David loves his sunny office and greenhouse. We have four bedrooms with big, bright windows, and the magnolia tree is just outside the nursery window.

Our yard is full of flowers, a vegetable garden, lilac bushes, and an apple tree. Our dogs love to run and play fetch in the yard, and we spend as much time as we can outside. In the summer, we grill and watch the Kansas lightning bugs on warm nights. We enjoy cozy firepits in the chilly fall weather, and we play with our dogs in the snow in the winter. We love watching the flowers bloom in the spring, and we can’t wait to add a swing set to our yard for children and to let them have a spot for their own little garden.

We enjoy going to our farmer’s market with shopping, music, and kid’s face painting, and we live nearby a park, elementary school, and pool with water slides and splash fountains. On the Fourth of July, we have lots of fun watching fireworks from our neighborhood, and on Halloween, we love to hand out candy and catch up with neighbors on driveways.

Our Extended Families

Celebrating Three Birthday's with Hannah's Family

We love living close to our families – we have parents, grandparents, siblings, nieces, and nephews that all live less than 10 minutes away. We have a great time together- we love to play with all of the kids and dogs and cook and enjoy meals together. We love playing board games or card games and watching movies (especially Christmas movies, Star Wars, and superhero movies!) Birthdays and holidays are lots of fun and so important to us to celebrate with family. Hannah’s family celebrates birthdays with a homemade meal (our specialties are egg rolls, fried chicken, and chocolate cake), and David’s mom is famous for her homemade vanilla ice cream with birthday cake.

Christmas Dinner with David's Family

We love celebrating Christmas with both of our families. On Christmas Eve, Hannah’s mom makes beef stew, warm homemade bread, and bread pudding. In David’s family, we travel a few hours away to his Grandma’s farm to see his aunts, uncles, and cousins. We have a giant family dinner and an annual themed costume contest that David won a few years ago! Our families are unique with all of their warm and unconditional love to give. Everyone is quick to accept, to forgive, and to support. Our families are both so excited about adoption and ready to give all of their love to a child.

From Us to You

Thank you so much for getting to know us in our profile and for considering adoption for your baby. Our names are David and Hannah, and we are so excited to be parents and to give all of our hearts and love to a child. We have been happily married for 8 years, and we spend most of our time loving on our two dogs and two cats. David works as a project manager for a construction company and Hannah is a chemistry professor. Hannah loves that she gets to stay at home all summer and on long holiday breaks, and she can’t wait to spend this time with a child. We are unable to have children biologically, but we are so excited about finding our family through adoption.

The most important things to us are our faith in God and family time together. We love a slow, sweet, and simple life where we have time to enjoy the big and the small things together. Some of the big things are Christmas morning with our pets and extended families, summer trips to the lake, and celebrating birthdays together. We can’t wait to shower a child with love, balloons, and a big family party on their birthday. Some of the smaller everyday moments that are just as important to us are slow Saturday mornings with pancakes, spending all day outside at the park or in the backyard, pizza Friday movie nights, singing songs at church, and family dinners together at the kitchen table. We look forward to reading books with a child at bedtime, praying together, and savoring these sweet life moments.

Some fun things we like to do together are camping, hiking, and being outdoors as much as we can. We can’t wait to strap on a baby carrier and enjoy these adventures with a child too. Some of our favorite memories together are hiking up to an old castle last summer, a night out at the Christmas symphony, and Christmas morning in our pajamas opening stockings together. We are excited to teach a child about the outdoors, how to swim and throw a baseball, how to cook and bake, and all about science. Most importantly, we will teach a child how to be responsible, kind, and loving, and to always know the love that God has for them. It’s important to us to learn about and embrace a child’s cultural background and to teach them to love and respect all people. Especially if a child’s cultural background is different than our own, we are committed to educating ourselves and embracing new traditions into our lives. We are excited to learn about holidays, food, and history to give them a full and rich connection to their background. We are also committed to educating ourselves on adversities and hardships they may face in life, and we will always be their biggest advocate.

We want them to grow up always knowing their unique and special adoption story, and how loved they are by so many people. From the time they are tiny, we plan to read children’s books with adoption stories and to make an adoption baby book with their own story and any information you might like to share, such as letters, family photos, or mementos. We will give them a safe place to ask questions as they grow up, and we are committed to a strong, open relationship with you. We will send regular photo and letter updates to you, and we are also open to phone calls, emails, and an annual visit if those are things that you want too. We are so excited about building our family through adoption, and at the same time, the heavy weight of what this decision would mean for you will never be lost on us. Thank you so much for considering adoption for your baby and for getting to know us. We pray that you have peace, hope, and comfort in your decision, and that you are supported in every way you need.

Love,

David & Hannah
