Juan Carlos & Miryan
Adoption has become our priority, so thank you so much for taking the time to read our profile. We have so much love and desire to become parents that you will make us the happiest couple in the world if you choose us to be your child's parents. We think the baby may not have our eyes or our smile, but the baby will have all our heart.
Our Cultural Heritage
We were born and raised in Cuba, a small Island in the Caribbean Sea, south of Florida. Our country has a beautiful cultural history and we cannot wait to teach and educate our child in such beautiful traditions.
Our traditional Cuban cuisine blends influences from Spain, Africa, the Caribbean and China. Our music is very energetic and the popular genres include Rumba, Trova, Jazz and Timba. Dance is an integral part of Cuban culture; Mambo, Salsa, Cha Cha Cha are just a few popular styles. Our most popular sport is baseball and a National Series competition is held every year.
Carnivals are also celebrated in every province. Parades accompanied by typical music such as the conga (typical rhythm of comparsa) with drums, street food offerings and fancy dress. You will find open air stages along the Malecon with musicians playing. The kids go out in typical Caribbean costumes and perform theatrical shows.
Our Leisure Time
We enjoy our time outdoors, hiking in natural parks or just walking by the river walk in Tampa Bay. We love a day at the beach over the weekend. We usually load the truck with the cooler, umbrella and something to eat and drink and spend the day in the water, sunbathing and listening to music. Boating is part of our hobbies, we sometimes take the boat to the nearest lake and spend hours cruising and relaxing.
When not enjoying the outdoors, we love going out for movies at the local theater is one of our favorite date nights. Watching TV shows at home is something we like to do as well. Trying different food and restaurants is part of our routine, one of our favorites is Olive Garden. We also love to hang out with friends. One of our favorite activities is to play dominos with our family while cooking some barbecue on a Saturday afternoon. We like to exercise at the gym as well as running around the block.
What It Means to Become Parents
Becoming parents has been in our minds for a long time now. We were so exited when we first talked about having kids eight years ago because we felt prepared, capable and ready to fill our lives with the most rewarding thing a couple can have. We worked hard to create a safe, loving environment for when this time came. We know being parents is a big responsibility but we are ready to raise a child with love, care and understanding.
To have the chance to see our baby grow, to see when the first tooth starts to show, when the baby learns to say mom and dad, or watching our baby's first steps is definitely something we will enjoy and be proud of. Spending some time at the park, celebrating our baby's birthday or taking our child to school are all things we look forward to and do not want to miss.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a nice house in Florida in an amazing inclusive community with neighbors from multiple nationalities. We love everything about our home because we took the time to remodel as we liked when we bought it. Our favorite places are the dining room because it is where we spend most of our time with our spoiled guinea pigs and we also enjoy our back yard, often spending the afternoon barbecuing and relaxing on our days off.
Every year our community celebrates a Carnival, which is a family-fun event that features rides for all ages, entertaining carnival games and favorite fair foods. Our community also celebrates Christmas with parades and a breakfast with Santa.
We love our neighborhood because we are surrounded by many playgrounds for kids, lakes, mini-golf and water parks. Very near to us there is an art and dance studio, a Chuck E Cheese, Legoland and Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park. Another thing we love is that we are very close to Disney World, Sea World and the zoo. The elementary and middle schools are just a few blocks from our home.
Our Extended Families
As a Latino family, our family is always present in our lives. We come from Cuba, a small island south of Florida. Part of our family lives here in the United States and part in Cuba. Juan Carlos' parents have the privilege of being permanent residents and living very close to us, while his sister, grandmother, aunts and cousins still live in Cuba. Miryan's brother lives in Texas with his wife and child, while her parents and maternal grandmother live in Cuba.
Miryan's parents come to visit every year and we take the opportunity to go on vacation that season. We have so many fun memories together but we always want more. We have all gone to water parks together, to restaurants, we have traveled and known places like Miami Beach, Orlando Universal Studios and Los Angeles Universal Studios, New York, the Mall of America in Minneapolis, Las Vegas and many others.
Our Cuban tradition is to invite our friends and family over on New Year's Eve to play dominos, dance to salsa music, and to cook our Lechon Asado Cubano (Cuban Roast Pork). Our family is as excited as we are with the idea of adopting a child. We could not be more happy and eager to bring a baby home to share each of our laughs, achievements, family traditions and give this baby our unconditional love.
From Us to You
Thank you for taking the time to get to know us. We know this is a difficult time for you while you are trying to figure out the best option for you and your precious baby. We hope that you feel supported and loved no matter where you are in your journey. We admire you so much for considering adoption.
The fact of not knowing you, but knowing that you could be the birth mother of our child, gives us a lot of tickles in the stomach because we know that it may be the opportunity that we have been waiting on for years. We are very eager to be able to interact and get to know each other in order to establish a closer relationship. For us it is very important that our child know their roots and their adoption history, so it seems great to be able to have a relationship with you and we are committed to interacting either through letters, photos or video calls so that our baby and you feel comfortable.
We have a very beautiful love story. We were introduced by a mutual friend at this friend's house in Cuba (our country of origin) in 2009 and we have been together ever since. We were very much in love so four years later we got married. We came to live in the United States 10 years ago and we have managed to improve ourselves in our personal and work lives. Miryan has a degree in accounting and finance and is working for a large warehouse company as an Accounts Payable clerk. She wants to continue studying and improving herself to get a better position in the future. Juan Carlos studied computers but took several courses in maintenance and refrigeration and works as a refrigeration technician for a big company as well.
Eight years ago we started trying to get pregnant. When we had no luck we sought the help from the doctors for fertility treatments. We ended up doing IVF. Miryan got pregnant three times, but unfortunately all the pregnancies ended in loss during the first trimester. We have suffered a lot from the losses and not being able to have a large family as was our wish, but we overcame it and now we are stronger than ever and with many wishes to adopt.
Hopefully and with God's blessing, you give us the opportunity to be your baby's new family. We have many desires to hug, pamper and raise a good child — To watch our kid grow and develop, to teach our kid to talk and walk. To teach our kid our language, our culture and traditions. To guide and support our kid to practice some sport, to finish elementary school and continue to improve and complete a higher education. It is our wish to see our kid grow old, marry and have children and always be proud of us for raising a good person, but also be proud of you for wanting a successful life for them and choosing adoption.
Know that we are praying for you and your sweet baby throughout your pregnancy, that God will fill you with peace in whatever decision you make.
