Jeremy & Jamie
Our path to adoption has been a little different than most, knowing this is how we would grow our family. We cannot wait to provide a child with a life full of unconditional love, and to share in that journey with you. Your consideration means everything to us, and we want to sincerely thank you for taking the time to get to know us. Please know you are in our hearts and thoughts.
What Makes Us Unique
Jamie has been working in the culinary field for over 18 years. Which means she works in a fairly male dominated field. She has worked in almost every kind of kitchen you can think of. Jamie went to school for baking and pastries, loves experimenting and creating new recipes. She works in a large bakehouse, making over 10,000 pounds of various breads a week. She enjoys working with her hands and learning how to do things herself. She is very silly and does things like having squirt gun fights and creating sneaky surprises. Jamie grew up in a family owned business and would one day love to open up something of her own to share with her family.
Jeremy was an army medic and served our country for eight years. Before deciding on that career, he was scared of blood! Jeremy spent a good part of his teens and twenties in bands! Jeremy played drums and guitar and went on tour up the east coast. He got to meet and play music with some of our favorite bands. Jeremy worked as a counselor for troubled kids in various group homes and while it was at times difficult, he found it very rewarding. Jeremy currently works for a pet care company that creates dog parks, pet toys, and almost anything else your pet may need! He also gets to bring the boys (the dogs) to the office.
Our Leisure Time
We spend almost all of our free time hanging out with our dogs and spending time outside. We go hiking, canoeing, and doing yard work (we actually enjoy it!). We have a lot of parks nearby that offer tons of hiking trails so it's always a new experience.
Jamie reads tons of books, and has a pretty eclectic library, including most of her favorites from childhood. She is constantly tackling different things and teaching herself how to do them, like knitting and wood burning. Jamie can sometimes be a bit of a serial hobbyist, but she uses her powers for good and makes most of our Christmas/birthday gifts for the family.
Jeremy loves going golfing and fishing. He has been teaching himself (and Jamie) how to build furniture. We do a lot of cooking at home as you might expect. Ranging from grilling to canning and baking. Jeremy reads a lot of books and does tutorials to learn more about writing software code.
We spend time playing card games like Phase 10 or rummy, board games and even the occasional jigsaw puzzle. We listen to music and sing along while cleaning the house together. We have taught the dogs to play hide-and-seek in the house when it is rainy. We really enjoy sitting on the porch swing and just spending time together. Life can get very busy and it's nice to have some downtime!
Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other
Jamie About Jeremy: I love Jeremy's huge heart. He's kind and compassionate. His dedication to constantly teaching himself new software technology is something to admire. He's always pushing himself to grow and learn. When you are having a hard time, he is always there waiting to help. He makes up the worst jokes. I love watching him zoom call with our niece in FL to help her with her homework. He always gets really excited for holidays and when trying new things (like cooking). There is no better person to tell terrible dad jokes with!
Jeremy About Jamie: Jamie is the most real person I've ever met. She is the same person no matter who is around, and she never pretends to be anything other than herself. She is extremely sweet and kind, the type of person that will do anything for you if you ask. I also love how confident she can be at trying new things. She never backs down from a challenge, even if she is uncertain of the outcome. She's funny and can be hilarious at just the right times. She always tries to make the people around her laugh, even if it makes her look a tad silly (she doesn't care about impressing anyone). She is also one of the strongest people I have ever met. Even through very tough times, she always manages to stay strong for her family and keep focused.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in the wonderful state of Tennessee, on the eastern side close to the Smoky Mountains. We moved from a big city with lots of noise and traffic and couldn't be happier! Our neighborhood is a little bit rural- we have a lot of neighbors with livestock (cows, chickens, goats, etc.) In fact, as you pull on to our street there is a large pasture that always has cows and donkeys hanging out and enjoying the weather. It's very quiet- you can hear the cows and roosters in the distance. Our yard is a sea of greenery in the spring and summer with lots of wildlife- chipmunks, deer, bunnies, groundhogs, huge owls, tons of fireflies and the occasional skunk!
We are minutes away from our downtown full of small town shops and from several huge parks and nature preserves. Our community has lots of parades and community events year-round, including a fall festival full of carnival games and every type of food you can think of, along with a Christmas parade with dozens of floats (and of course, Santa himself!) We have a splash pad, rivers, lakes and quarries for swimming and cooling off in the summer months. We also have a great community and recreation center that has basketball and tennis courts, along with a giant swimming pool with several slides. We are around 30 minutes outside of a major city that has even more recreational activities, museums, art galleries, and a continuously vibrant community.
Our Extended Families
While neither of us come from very large families, we cherish the relationships we have with our families, most of which live in sunny Florida.
Jeremy has three brothers and two nieces, all of whom are a very close knit unit. We love spending time with our nieces, motivating them to be creative and learning how to make things from scratch, like pickles! We are both very close with Jeremy's mom Kathy, who comes to visit from Florida several months out of the year. We usually have most, if not all of them during Christmas time. The holiday traditions are a very big celebration. Lots of meals, lights, and, of course, board games. This gives Jamie the chance to do all of her huge Italian family cooking, and Jeremy gets to make his BIG Christmas day breakfast. Jeremy also has many aunts, uncles and cousins that live very close in Kentucky that we love to go visit!
Jamie has an older brother and a ton of extended family that enjoy coming up to visit from Florida and experience the seasons! Jamie's brother and his wife love coming up to go hiking and exploring. We joke that we bought everyone a vacation home!
While our families live a short plane ride away, we are extremely close with all of them and spend as much time together as possible through out the year.
From Us to You
Thank you for taking the time to get to know us. We sincerely appreciate you, and cannot imagine the difficult decisions you have ahead of you. We want you to know that we will always make this child our first priority and provide our full unconditional love.
We both grew up in hard working, single-parent households. We put ourselves through schooling and helped take care of our families. We met through mutual friends- all of whom gently (most of the time) pushed us together. Eventually we ran into each other at a going-away party for one of our friends. We started talking that night, and Jeremy finally worked up the nerve to ask Jamie on a date (she thankfully said yes!) and we fell fast for each other. After dating for about four years, we got engaged and were married in April 2010 at a beautiful nature preserve. We have been together for over 16 years and married for 11. We have been each other's best friends and greatest annoyances. We have had our ups and downs, and gone through our share of heartbreaks together. Throughout our relationship and marriage, we have always maintained love and respect for each other. We support our friends and family, neighbors and strangers in any way we can.
Our home has about two acres of land, so we do a LOT of yard work. We tackle house projects together (learning how to fix things from books and online). We bought our first (and forever) home in 2018, and have since spent a great deal of time working on it and making it our own. Jeremy has dreams of a vegetable garden, a zipline through the trees, and building out a workshop. There is a large empty barn on the other side of the property that Jamie can't wait to build a boxcar racer with a little one in. We lead pretty simple lives, we work very hard in our careers. Often times we are home, hanging out on our porch watching the dogs chase bees or fireflies and run around. We try to find those awesome moments in what a lot of people would call mundane.
We do a lot of outdoor activities like hiking, canoeing, and exploring with our dogs. The parks near our home are absolutely beautiful. Huge areas of hiking, full of creeks, lakes, quarries, and waterfalls...hiking in the spring and winter being our favorites. We have two of the sweetest, silliest dogs. They are high energy cuddle bugs who absolutely love children. Scout and Zander love swimming and frisbee almost as much as they love playing in the mud. They will make excellent big brothers to any child!
Jamie has dreamed from a young age about adopting. We both can remember the first conversation we had about adoption when we were living in our first apartment. Later on, Jamie had to have a hysterectomy at a young age. For us, knowing that adoption was always part of our journey has made it easier to plan.
Our families are so excited to be a part of this experience and this child's life. We have received so much support from our families, all of whom are beyond thrilled to come and spend time and make memories. We are excited to have a relationship with you and share in all of the important milestones in this child's life. We are open to various forms of communication including sending letters and photos, emails, phone calls and visits!
We are not perfect or rich but we do have a lot of love and patience to give.
You matter. We cannot imagine the conflict, confusion, and heartache you may be going through. We don't know what circumstances brought you here but we appreciate you and your time and consideration. A lot of people will tell you they know that you are going through a difficult time, and making an incredible decision. We don't pretend to know how difficult this is for anyone. We hope that you will consider us, but also, make whatever decisions are right for you.
