Luke & Katie
We want to express our appreciation that you are reading our profile. We believe that starting a family through adoption is an honor and a privilege. We are so excited to become parents and look forward to starting this journey. If chosen to be your child's parents, we believe we have so much love to give them and it would mean so much to us! We hope you consider us and joyfully anticipate the adventure ahead.
What It Means to Become Parents
We both have been looking forward to being parents for a long time. We are excited for the opportunity to guide and nurture the growth of a child and have fun along the way!
Becoming parents means getting to create a loving home that allows a child to grow up in a safe place and become whoever they want to be. We are looking forward to making memories as a family through vacations, adventures, and daily moments spent together. Luke is always up for learning and trying new things and is looking forward to connecting with a child in their interests as they try new hobbies and activities, as well as help with homework and school projects. After growing up with and appreciating an involved mom of her own, Katie is most excited to volunteer at school events, take them to activities, and be a part-time stay at home mom. We both cannot wait to watch a child grow up and explore the world around them.
We are appreciative of the opportunity to grow together as a family during good and bad times, celebrating life’s milestones as they come, and enjoying day-to-day life. Being parents will be one of life’s greatest joys!
Our Leisure Time
In our leisure time we make sure to prioritize fun and relaxing activities as we find it is essential to have a good work-life balance.
We love spending time outdoors, whether that is in the backyard gardening or playing with the dog, going on adventures in our community, or going to the beach. We also enjoy having game nights with friends, watching movies, and reading. Some of our best memories have been spending time with our friends and their growing families.
Physical activity is also important to us and we make sure to set aside time for workouts in our home gym in our garage as well as plenty of walks around the neighborhood with our dog!
It is also important to us to make time for vacations, either locally in Florida or a road trip to nearby states. Some of our favorite vacations have been traveling to the Florida Keys and visiting the Smoky Mountains. We look forward to when we can resume nationwide travel, as we have a goal to visit as many state and national parks as we can!
As Christians, we believe that we are all created in God's image; we are all created with value, worth, and dignity. It will be our goal as parents to raise a child who not only feels loved by us but also be connected to their community, which includes their unique cultural heritage. We live in an culturally diverse neighborhood and city, surrounded by schools and communities that reflect this diversity. It will be important to us to work to understand and incorporate aspects of the child's heritage into our daily lives, as it will be an important part of their identity development as they grow older. We will work hard to understand the history and customs of the child's culture and seek support from the community whenever possible to ensure our child feels connected to their culture.
We engage with a group of friends who come from different backgrounds. Our church community is intentional and passionate about celebrating cultural diversity, which we find enriching to our own lives. We also enjoy participating in various events in our community that celebrate different cultures, shopping in local markets, and enjoying local restaurants who celebrate their native cuisine.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a suburb of a large city in Florida. We have access to many nature trails, parks, restaurants, and other family-orientated activities and spaces in our community. Additionally, we have access to many beaches that are a short drive away. We also enjoy spending time at some of the numerous theme parks in our area.
We own a three-bedroom home with a large fenced in backyard where we often spend time relaxing and playing with our dog. We live in a gated community with many families, including children spanning all age ranges. Our neighborhood has a playground, swimming pool, and sports courts that we would love to bring a child to when the weather is beautiful and sunny! We often see kids biking to school in the morning with friends or parents as there are many elementary schools close to the neighborhood. We also have an active HOA board that throws many events for the kids in the neighborhood, including a Halloween parade, Easter Egg hunt, summer movie nights, and Christmas parades. We look forward to the day that we can participate in these activities with a child of our own!
Our Extended Families
We both come from small families. Katie is an only child, but was lucky enough to have close family friends who are now like family. Katie is close to her parents and maternal grandparents (Nana and Papa), who live close by and with whom we are able to spend a lot of time. We like to play games with Katie's family, including Yahtzee and card games. Katie also enjoys cooking, baking, crafting, and shopping with her mom and Nana.
Luke's family consists of himself, his parents, and his older sister. Luke's parents live about an hour and a half away and we enjoy going to the beach when visiting them. Luke's parents also often take care of our dog, Bailey, when we go on vacation.
We are fortunate to be able to live close to our families and holidays consist of everyone coming together, including Katie's parents and grandparents, Katie's uncle and aunt, and Luke's parents. We often celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas as a large extended family, and spend Easter with our close friends who became like family when we first moved to Florida and did not have family living close by. We cannot wait to include a child in these family and friend gatherings and passing on our family's traditions. Our family is very supportive and looks forward to being an active part of this child's life.
From Us to You
Thank you for taking the time to learn about us! We know that the adoption process can be difficult and overwhelming, and we are honored to be considered as potential adoptive parents to your child.
Having first met in high school, we have been together for 13 years, and married for six years. We have always wanted to have children and have had a desire to grow our family for quite some time. Over these years, we have experienced so much growth as individuals but most importantly as a couple. We have navigated the adventure of moving across the country together, pursuing educational goals, starting careers, buying a home, and adopting our first dog. Throughout all these changes, we have supported each other and compliment one another's strengths to create a solid foundation as partners, which we believe will provide a great foundation for when we become parents.
Over the past few years we have faced struggles with fertility and it has been made clear to us that God has been leading us towards adoption. Adoption has always been part of our plan as a way to grow our family, but we never knew what that would look like. We are so excited to start this journey and anxiously await for God to bring us the right adoption opportunity!
We are looking forward to including our future child in all of the parts of our life that we can. We enjoy spending time outdoors, being active, spending time with family and friends, and engaging with the community around us. Our families also cannot wait to have a child in the family who they will be able to shower with love and affection. It will be an adventure to pass along our favorite interests to a child as well as foster and encourage them as they discover their own interests! It will be our main priority to create a fun, safe, happy, and loving home for a child where they will be free to be themself and develop into the uniquely wonderful human that they are. We will also instill our shared values of compassion, integrity, hard work, and respect as foundational components of strong character to carry with them their whole life. We will do everything within our means to give them the best opportunities and support their growth and happiness through all stages of life.
We know that you may have many questions about how your child is growing up, what they are learning, and who they become. Please be assured that we have every intention to make sure that you feel comfortable with your decision, should you choose to consider us. We are happy and willing to commit to communication about the growth of your child through emails, letters, and pictures. We are committed to working together with you to create a healthy relationship for the benefit of not only the child, but also for the benefit of our family, which will include you! You will always play an important role in our lives and we will honor you and the decision you made to trust us.
Thank you again for considering us. We know that the decision you make will not be an easy one and we do not take it lightly that you are taking time to get to know us. We appreciate and respect the choice that you have made and we will make every effort to honor it and you in the days and years to come.
