John & Amy
We are so grateful that you are taking the time to get to know us! We would be honored to be chosen to be adoptive parents for your child. Our goal is to give a child a safe, secure home, where they feel our unconditional love. We promise if you choose us to parent your child to always let your child pursue their dreams, support their decisions, and make them feel safe and loved daily.
Our Leisure Time
We like to spend our free time together—taking walks through the neighborhood with our dogs; playing softball in a league every Sunday; and it's so much fun to get together with our friends, their kids, and their pets. Other things we enjoy are eating out at new restaurants, and trying different types of food. It's especially fun when we can enjoy dinner out with family and friends. We also enjoy bowling every once in a while, which is how we initially met.
At home, we are always working on projects in the winter and the garden in the summer. We love gardening, and growing our own vegetables! We have a raised bed in the backyard dedicated to our cherry tomatoes we grow every year. Amy especially likes to pick out different looking plants, and then Amy and John plant them each year.
Vacationing is our favorite leisure activity of all! A beach and golf course are perfect. It's so much fun to visit new places together! We've traveled as a couple to Cartagena, Columbia; Kiawah Island; Santa Marta, Columbia; Santa Monica; Iowa; Arizona; New York City and Connecticut. We love learning new cultures and both have a passion for visiting more of Central and South America as time goes on.
Our pets are very important to us, and are considered family. We always rescue/adopt. Bonnie was the first girl, and she came to us with a deformed leg. She is 13 now, so she has slowed down quite a bit, but we do everything we can to help keep her happy and comfortable. The next to come along was Flora Lena. Amy was working exclusively in Veterinary Ophthalmology when Flora Lena came in, and was in a tough life situation. She had to lose both of her eyes, and the owners were not able to take it on. Amy immediately jumped on board and took Flora Lena into the home without hesitation. Albert, our first cat was though a rescue group. He was diagnosed HCM, a heart condition that typically decreases life span to a few months. We immediately got him a cardiologist, and he has been with us for 7 years. Sloan was also a rescue from Amy's work because her breeder was going to dispose of her due to an eye condition. She was home that same day! Lastly, Stanley was adopted after a rescue reached out, knowing we have experience with blind animals. Stanley lost both of his eyes also, due to juvenile glaucoma. He was home the same day. They bring us so much joy and love, we cherish each and every one. Our house wouldn't be a home without them.
Our Individual Strengths
Amy About John: John has many strengths about him. He is so kind, compassionate and understanding. He will help anyone in need if asked. He is so gentle with animals and people. He also has a very strong work ethic, when he does something it has to be done right. John also has a great level of spirituality which helps him balance the craziness of work and a home life. He is athletic and enjoys being healthy and fit.
John About Amy: Amy's strengths are her compassion towards others, especially with animals. She is constantly worrying about others needs, and how she can help make a difference in this world. Amy is calm and empathetic with people who are struggling, and tries to make an effort to help wherever she can. Amy is also very straight forward, honesty is important to her. She makes every effort to express how she feels, and wants to know how others feel as well. She will stand up for what she believes in without hesitation.
Our House and Neighborhood
Our home is a ranch style, 3 bedrooms, 1.5 baths and an enormous living room. Our favorite room is the living room, it has enough space to comfortably fit many people, toys, and pets! It has a large back yard, which allows for a swingset or playhouse easily. There are large trees in the neighborhood, and we also enjoy gardening both the front and back of the house.
Our community is amazing, safe and friendly. We have a community pool, an amazing playground, athletic center, biking trails, tennis courts, farmer's market, and a wonderful daycare. We love our local shops which are close by. There are many activities that happen in the neighborhood, and lots of children around for friends. The kids in our neighborhood all play together, and they all love going to the different houses on the street who have pets. They come to see our dogs, and even our neighbor's 3 chickens! We absolutely love our neighbors and neighborhood!
Our Extended Families
We see our extended families often as most of them live nearby. Amy's parents are wonderful grandparents to their current grandchildren, and have already set up a nursery in their home for a new grandchild. Amy's mom has also already made a quilt for the baby as well. John's parents are very caring and nurturing to their current grandchildren, and can't wait for a new addition. Both grandparents are always coming up with fun activities and ideas to do with the grandchildren.
Amy's sister and John's sisters are also very involved in our lives, and can't wait to have a new family member. Their children are also very excited to have a cousin! Amy's niece is always asking for a cousin, as Amy and Gemma are so close!
Our families have many traditions. On Christmas Eve we gather at Amy's parents' home and have a delicious homecooked meal, followed by a Zoom call with our extended family as we all light the Christmas Eve candle Amy's great grandfather made for each of his kids and grandchildren. On Christmas day, we usually spend the early part of the day with Amy's family, as her father makes breakfast and Scrapple (a traditional Dutch Recipe), and we share a wonderful breakfast before opening gifts. We then typically join John's family for dinner and a late night church service.
We are so thankful for our close relationship with our family, and we are grateful for their support of our adoption plan!
From Us to You
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this letter and look at our profile. We applaud and respect you for your decision, recognizing the difficulty that comes with it. The miracle of this life is truly a blessing and we are grateful to be able to share a little about ourselves in the hopes that we might be considered as the family for your child.
We have been together for almost 5 years now, and married for 2.5 years. We have wanted to grow our family as soon as we were married, and are excited for this opportunity to raise a child in our home. Our hearts are open and waiting for a baby to share joy and love with! We know we are meant to be parents, and are so excited and hopeful for the opportunity!
We promise to raise your baby in a safe, healthy and supportive environment. We plan to honor you in our family so that your baby can blossom through embracing his/her genealogy while in pursuit of personal dreams. We also vow to send letters and pictures of your child to you as desired. We are open to other forms of communication and/or visits with you too.
Our family eagerly awaits a child with which to share our love. It would be a dream come true to have a child in our family! We cannot wait for the snuggles, the smiles, the giggles, and little moments that will mean the most to us. Every milestone, like first steps and words, will be the most exciting thing for us! We want to be very open with our children so they can learn how to trust their parents, and have open communication. We want to be there for their sad times, and their greatest accomplishments! A life filled with firsts, and trial and error, and having a loving family with them the entire journey is our goal. Rain or shine, a baby in our family would be our number one priority to make sure that they are happy and healthy and safe!
The baby would also benefit by all the support of so many grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins who are all excited for the arrival of the family's newest addition. We are also planning on adopting again in the future, providing a sibling for your baby. Life is fun and enjoyable in our Midwestern community. We celebrate the diversity of life, while adhering to our family morals. Our neighborhood has several young children and pets, and is a safe place where people really do take care of one another.
We would be elated if we were chosen to parent your beautiful child and would be open to meeting prior to your delivery as well. We would love to share more about us with you, and learn more about you as well! Ultimately we pray for your health and the health of your baby. We hope you enjoy learning more about us, and thank you again for your consideration!
