Katie & Alecia
We are grateful that you have chosen to learn more about our lives and consider us to be parents for your child. Your selflessness, courage, and strength are admirable. We know you have difficult decisions to make and we will be by your side. We will love and support your child unconditionally. Becoming parents would be one of our greatest blessings and we cannot wait to grow our family through adoption.
What it Means to be Parents
To us, being parents means being selfless, to love unconditionally, to raise our child to be a strong independent leader, to accept and learn from mistakes, and to support their dreams and aspirations. We both enjoyed our childhoods, which makes us want to provide the same for our child. We intend to raise our child by instilling in them the same values our parents taught us, including to love yourself and one another, respect others, and to persevere through difficult times.
We are excited for the everyday little things, such as eating meals together, playing games, bath time, and reading stories. Alecia can’t wait to teach our child about the things she loves including playing sports, reading, and playing the guitar. Making crafts, baking, playing games and movies nights are just a few things Katie is excited to share with our child. As a family, we also are looking forward to taking vacations to the beach and long weekends to local resorts. We are excited to share our love for holidays; Easter egg hunts, 4th of July cookouts, Fall Festivals, decorating the Christmas tree and making holiday cookies! We honestly are just excited to make memories and enjoy life as a family.
We have an active lifestyle that includes focusing on our core values while spending time and making memories with our family and friends. Don’t get us wrong, we enjoy watching movies and catching up on our nightly shows, but we prefer to be out and about! Alecia works from home as a Cyber Security Team Lead and Katie works as a 2nd grade elementary school teacher. We both work extremely hard and love ours jobs! Our favorite part of the day is when we can spend time with our dogs and go for family walks. Our evenings also consist of Alecia spending time reading, playing guitar, or organizing the house while Katie cooks dinner and sometimes even bakes a yummy dessert! We also enjoy taking Emma outside to play fetch and watching Sophie frolic through our backyard. We love to explore our community. This includes zoo trips and outings to the local farms for strawberry and pumpkin picking. There is a local family-friendly resort that we envision taking our child to for a long weekend to swim, hike, and enjoy family time. We love our annual vacation to North Myrtle Beach and cannot wait to share this tradition with our child. We also enjoy the opportunity to travel to places we’ve never been. Two years ago, we took a trip to San Francisco and visited vineyards, Fisherman’s Wharf, had ice cream at the Ghirardelli Factory, and rode the trolley. We cannot wait to plan more trips with our family!
We have two Boston Terriers; Sophie is 11 and Emma is 10. We remember going to pick each of them up like it was yesterday! Something just drew us to them; it was easy to know which puppies were ours from the others in the litters. From the moment they came into our lives, they have been a blessing. Sophie loves walks and naps. Emma loves to play fetch and eat treats. They both love to snuggle and are attached at our hips! Through our best and worst moments in life, Sophie and Emma are there. They are always ready with a wag, kiss, or will just come over and sit on your lap to provide comfort. They are friendly and are good with adults and children; our niece loves them, and they even join us for tea parties and bubble chasing! They are truly the light in our lives, and we wouldn’t feel like a family without them. They have taught us flexibility, patience, but most importantly, unconditional love. We can’t wait to see them interact with the new child we welcome into our lives.
Our Extended Families
We spend a great deal of time with our extended families! Katie has one brother-married with one child, our niece. Katie’s parents are about a 45-minute drive away. Katie’s parents are both retired and are excited to welcome another grandchild that they can babysit! We see Katie’s parents and brother’s family often for dinners, game nights, fires, and weekend outings such as Hallowboo-a local fall festival we visit in October! Alecia and our niece have such a silly and quirky relationship! Katie enjoys doing crafts with her and pretend play. She can’t wait for a baby cousin! We also enjoy spending time with many of Katie’s cousins. Katie was very close to her cousins throughout her childhood and it has been a dream to raise our children together just like they were.
Alecia’s family lives 2 hours away. We enjoy taking long weekend trips to visit her mom and dad. With Alecia’s mom, we enjoy hanging out in her backyard, playing games, and going out to dinner. When we visit her dad, he always has an adventure for us to go on! It could be as simple as an evening out in town to visit local shops and get ice cream, a trip up to the farm he owns, or a craft night! Alecia’s parents are thrilled to meet their first grandchild. They both can’t wait to be grandparents!
Our families are so excited that we have chosen adoption and can’t wait to support us throughout this journey.
Our House and Neighborhood
We live in a family-friendly suburb in western Pennsylvania. Our neighborhood is filled with growing families that we can envision our child playing with! Halloween parades, trick-or-treating, cookouts, and Christmas light contests are just a few of the traditions that we participate in. There is a local park about ½ mile from our home that we visit often. The park has several playgrounds, a duck pond, peacock and buffalo sites, horse stables, hiking trails, pavilions, an ice skating rink, and a wave pool. We enjoy taking our dogs for walks or enjoying a picnic there on the weekends. We live very close to the schools in our district, restaurants, shopping malls, libraries, and pediatricians. Our city’s sports team’s hockey arena and football and baseball fields are just a short drive away. We love going to these sporting events and rooting on our favorite teams!
We moved into our house 5 years ago and we absolutely love it! We have a spacious 2 bedroom-1.5 bath home with a huge yard! We enjoy spending time in our finished basement watching a movie by the fireplace or battling each other in a game of Mario Kart. Our kitchen and living room are open concept. We love cooking and baking together. One important tradition we both had growing up were family dinners at the dining room table, which is something we plan to do with our child! We also love hosting picnics, game nights, and holiday parties at our home!
From Us to You
We are so excited and thankful that you have chosen to learn more about us. Thank you for considering us to become parents to your child. We can only imagine the emotions you are feeling at this moment. We admire you for your strength and bravery in your decision to provide the best life possible for your child. We are already so proud of you.
We have been together for 11 years and married for 3. From the moment we began dating, we knew we would be together forever. Life has definitely thrown us some curve balls and has not always gone the way we wanted it to, but we always find a way to persevere. We make an exceptional team and complement each other extremely well. Our greatest strength as a couple is the love that we have for each other. It is our foundation and has gotten us through all our difficult times. We have deeply struggled to have children and although we have gone through some troubling times, we have never lost sight of our true passion to grow our family.
Katie has over 15 years of professional experience with children and is currently a 2nd grade elementary school teacher. Katie is so excited to use her love for teaching to help raise and educate our family. Alecia works from home as a Team Lead in her company’s Cyber Security department. Our two Boston Terriers love having her home! We are proud of our careers and life we have built together and are eager to share this with your child.
We are your outdoorsy, fun, loving, and silly couple! We love our weekend getaways, hiking through the trails and watching the ducks at the pond at the park nearby, family movie and game nights, holiday traditions and family vacations. We are excited to continue doing these things with your child fitting right in! We can’t wait for them to play with their cousin, to ride in the jogging stroller while we hike, to swim and dig in the sand on our yearly vacation, and to help us decorate the Christmas tree and bake holiday cookies with their Grandmas and Grandpas.
Our journey has led our hearts to adoption. We are here to provide comfort, support, empathy, and compassion. We truly want what is best for you and your child. Life can be very painful and unfair; however, we have come to find there is always hope, faith, and light; we want to be that for you and your child. One of our favorite quotes is, “You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have (Cayla Mills).” You are strong. You are willing to grow and keep your baby safe for nine months and are generous and gracious enough to send them into our waiting arms. You would be giving us the ultimate gift and we will never take that for granted. We can’t promise that your child won’t get hurt, make mistakes, be let down, or experience pain but we can promise that we will move heaven and earth for them to know how loved and supported they are.
We are looking forward to getting to know you better and the hopes you have. It is important to us that we share your story and the commitment you gave to your baby with them through the years. We are happy to share letters and pictures with you. We are hoping to create an open and honest line of communication with you. We are looking forward to knowing you and building a healthy, lifelong relationship.
The hopes and dreams we have for our family are immense. The most important thing in our lives is family and we are so ready to share all our love with your child. They will grow up in a fun, safe, and healthy environment with us cheering them on to strive for who they want to become. We cannot say that we know what you are going through in this moment, but our hearts are with you and your baby as you make this important decision. We are forever grateful and feel honored for your consideration.
