Josh & Alison
Hi, we are Alison and Josh! Thank you for viewing our profile. We have been looking forward to becoming parents for many years and are excited to have that opportunity through adoption. We know you have a very important decision ahead of you and we applaud your strength and dedication to your child in choosing adoption. We hope you will join us on this journey, and know we are praying for you every day.
Our Leisure Time
We love to travel and spend quality time with our extended families. We are lucky to be able to experience different climates and activities throughout the year at both of our family's destinations. We also enjoy visiting warm climate places with a good beach and good sunshine! Our favorites so far have been visiting Alison's parents and getting married in Southern Florida, and our honeymoon in Negril, Jamaica! We are hoping to one day bring our children to Puerto Rico to show them where Alison's dad's side of the family is from.
We also enjoy attending professional sports games. So far, we have seen professional soccer, and baseball, and semi-professional baseball, and hockey. We hope to one day watch our favorite professional football team, the Green Bay Packers, at Lambeau Stadium. We are also just under 2 hours away from where the San Diego Padres play baseball, and hope to attend a game soon!
When we're staying local, we love to explore the outdoors and hike, fish, and camp. We live near a beautiful water preserve that is nestled between the mountains that is truly breathtaking! We can't wait to share all of these experiences and places with this child!
Our Cultural Heritage
We are a multicultural couple, and love to incorporate both of our cultures into our lives. Alison is Caucasian and Puerto Rican, and Josh is Caucasian and Cajun. Whether it is food or holidays, we bring our own cultural traditions to the table.
Alison enjoys making Puerto Rican dinners and desserts, as well as practicing her Spanish. She likes to celebrate Three Kings Day, which reminds her of when she would visit her Puerto Rican grandparents while growing up. They would leave a little gift by the fireplace signifying the gifts the Three Kings brought for Jesus's birth. Even though these grandparents are no longer with us, Alison cherishes the memories and the importance of family and faith.
Josh enjoys certain dishes that remind him of his southern roots, like Okra Gumbo, Jambalaya, and red beans and rice. He grew up going to his grandparent's house every weekend for a big family pot of red beans. He also appreciates Mardi Gras, and tries to have us celebrate it no matter where we are during that time. His side of the family will even send us King's Cake to celebrate!
We look forward to teaching this child about our family cultures, as well as incorporating the heritage of this child into our own. We hope you will feel comfortable knowing your child will grow up with a sense of self and pride in their roots.
Fun Facts About Us
Our House and Neighborhood
We own a four bedroom, three bathroom, two-story home in Southern California. Our backyard is big enough for our Labradoodle, Quill, to run around and play fetch. We also have a fire pit in the backyard for those cold desert nights. We have a dedicated room for the nursery, complete with hand painted Nemo themed murals! We love to look out at our mountain views outside of our second story windows. We chose our neighborhood because it has a great school system, and plenty of activities for families of all ages to enjoy.
We are blessed to have some great neighbors who are always willing to help or lend a hand. We are fortunate to live in a very diverse neighborhood, and we look forward to having our children grow up and appreciate being a part of a multicultural community.
There are plenty of kids on our street, with the local elementary school within walking distance from our home. Our neighborhood has plenty of walking/running paths, multiple playgrounds, a sports complex, community pools, and a lake for catch and release fishing and paddle boating. We are also a short walk away from a popular mountain hiking trail. We envision many fun outdoor adventures with this child!
Our Extended Families
We grew up in the Midwest. Alison grew up in Iowa, while Josh was raised in Nebraska. Josh's extended family remains in Nebraska, while Alison has family in both Nebraska and Florida. We enjoy visiting both sides of the family.
Whether it is watching Omaha's College World Series Baseball tournament, or getting some R&R in southern Florida, we love getting everyone together and celebrating our time together. Our families also enjoy visiting us at our new home in SoCal. When we host our families, we like to have bonfires around our fire pit in the backyard, grill some surf and turf, and take in all of the stars we get to see at night.
Alison has one older sister, Anna, who is married to her middle school sweetheart, Kendall. Alison and Josh love being Auntie A and Uncle J to their daughter, Mia. We share snapchats, videos, and Facetime often. Josh has one younger sister, Gabrielle, who is busy pursuing a career in real estate. We are both fortunate to have grown up in homes with parents who are as loving towards us as they are to each other.
Both sides of the family are excited for us to explore growing our family through adoption. We are truly blessed to have such a strong support system as we hope to grow our family with this child.
From Us to You
We are humbled and thankful for you to read through our profile and consider us as potential adoptive parents to your child. Thank you for allowing us to tell you a little about ourselves, and how much we look forward to becoming parents. We know this journey you are on has many difficult decisions, but know that we are praying for you and your little one every day through this process.
Our story: We met in college while both attended Iowa State University. Alison was finishing up her freshman year, while Josh was finishing up his sophomore year. We met through a mutual friend, and we became friends shortly after. That friendship developed into a loving foundation for our relationship, and later our marriage. We initially dated from November 2012 through August 2017, when Josh popped the question! His job required him to relocate to Virginia, so after we were engaged we relocated to Virginia for him to start his job. We then planned for and had our destination wedding in southern Florida in November 2018. We like to describe our relationship like being salty and savory, good apart, but better together. Alison would describe herself as a type A personality. She is very organized and keeps the household running. Josh is more laid back and has the patience of a saint. Together, we complement each other well.
Even before we were married, we talked about trying to start our family right away. We knew that it may be difficult for us to conceive and maintain pregnancies, and initially sought out the help of fertility specialists. After years of treatments and losses, we revisited the idea of adoption. At first it was very hard for us to accept not being able to have biological children, but after several months of self-reflection, prayer, and support, we knew God wanted adoption to be a part of our family's story. We immediately began researching about adoption- inquiring about adoption and taking the necessary steps to adopt. We are fortunate to know a couple families who have adopted in the past, and have sought their guidance throughout this process. We know that adoption will be an amazing experience and we cannot wait to share our love with a child.
We can't imagine the emotions and decisions you are having to make. In choosing adoption, your strength and dedication to this child is immeasurable. We applaud you for your courage throughout this process. We hope you will find comfort in knowing that we will provide a home filled with love, stability, silliness, support, and encouragement. Our hope for this adoption is for you to remain in this child's life, in whatever way is most comfortable. We look forward to building a healthy relationship with you based on trust, open communication, and support. We plan to share letters, pictures, emails, videos, Facetime, phone calls, and a shared online album with you.
We know you have a lot of families to choose from, and just want to thank you for taking the time to get to know us. You and your child are already in our hearts and prayers as you continue building your adoption plan.
With all of our love,
Josh & Alison
