To start off the story, I made some not-so-great choices as a young adult. These choices had changed a lot about my life.

Around February 2019, I went to the ER to find out why my feet were so big and swollen. The nurse asked if I was pregnant and, of course, I said, “No way; I’m not pregnant.” She then had me take a pregnancy test to be sure. The test came back positive, and I was in disbelief. So, I took the test again, and it was still positive.

Immediately after being hit with the facts, my heart sank. In that moment, all I could do was cry and panic. I had a lot of thoughts going through my head, trying to figure out what I was going to do with my unborn daughter. I knew that I couldn’t give her the life that she deserved. Luckily, my older sister helped me with the adoption process, getting in touch with American Adoptions and finding a wonderful family to take care of her.

The day I was in labor, I was afraid and had some second thoughts about giving my beautiful baby up for adoption, but I knew what was best for her. As soon as she was given to the adoptive parents and they left, I went back home and was more determined than ever to get my life back on track. Going to school and finding stability in my life became my top priority.

I have to strive for greatness and become the best version of myself. When the time comes for my child to know who I am, I want her to be proud of who I have become. I want her to know that I made this difficult decision for the both of us and that my sacrifice was not in vain.

I will be the birth mother she deserves.
