Adoption Story

Craig, Linda and Ellie

It’s always wonderful to hear from members of the American Adoptions family around the holiday season. It’s especially fun to catch up with families who we worked with a couple of years back. When Linda and Craig sent in photos of their family and daughter Ellie (who’s now 5-and-a-half!) this month, we were reminded of their testimonial.

After a privately arranged adoption was disrupted around Christmastime, Craig and Linda decided that they would seek the help of an agency in making their dreams of parenting come true. American Adoptions came recommended from their private adoption attorney, and Linda found that the agency’s processes throughout their adoption journey suited her self-proclaimed “type-A personality.” At the urging of their Adoption Specialist, Craig and Linda stayed busy during their wait for an adoption opportunity.

When an unexpected call came, “notifying us that a birth mother from Indiana had selected our profile and her due day was… yesterday!,” the couple couldn’t believe that their time had come and that their baby would be born any day now. Several weeks later, their daughter Elizabeth (Ellie) was born. Ellie’s birth mother had a unique request about their adoption arrangement: she wanted to take her baby home to have some time with her before relinquishment. Though Craig and Linda considered waiting for a more conventional domestic adoption arrangement, their hearts told them to take a leap of faith and agree to her request. Ten days after Ellie was born, the couple flew to Indiana to meet their daughter and have been enjoying every moment since.
