In reply to step parent adoption, I myself am in this process my attorney has told me that is their father wont sign off on them you can petition the court, if there has been no support or substatinal contact with the children the judge will most likely grant the adoption. In my case my ex-husband lives in Australia and has only seen the boys twice in 10 years and in the past 4 has not made any contact with them (only his wife and that doesn't count) and he is thousands of dollars behind in support.My adoption case will cost about $400 unless my ex decides to come over here and fight the adoption and since he didn't fight the divorce I don't see him spending the money to fight this.As for your step mom adopting you, you are a legal adult and this is your choice so there shouldn't be any problems with it going through.I hope this helped a little. I have 2 questions. The first one is my husband wants to adopt my 2 girls. The father of my oldest has passed away & the fater to my 2nd is in jail (i think). How do we go about getting thm adopted & having my husbands last name? The second one is I want my step mother to adopt me, my birth mother is way out of the picture & my step mom raised me. I just want to make sure that if something happens to me & my husband my birth mother can't fight my parents for my children. Can anyone tell me where i need to go & what i need to do. Thank you
