5 Must-Have Adoption Services for Hopeful Families

Choosing a reliable adoption professional to complete your adoption requires careful research, but reading through our adoption services can make your agency decision easier.

If you want to feel confident and secure during your adoption process, American Adoptions has many notable services, which include:

  • A Risk‐Sharing Program that protects your finances in case of a disruption

  • Nationwide advertising that allows expectant parents from across the U.S. to view your profile

  • Adoption support and education from our trusted adoption specialists

  • Better adoption opportunities for you than other professionals

  • And much more

Let’s dive into the five must-have services that will benefit you best on your adoption journey.

Adoption Service #1: Adoption Planning and Education

The adoption process can be challenging and emotional for both prospective birth parents and hopeful adoptive families. But, having the right adoption services available to you can mitigate the stress.

Our adoptive family specialists provide educational and planning services when you’re making an adoption plan. They will meet all your needs and expectations. Also, your adoption specialist will be available for emotional support, too.

Whether you’re far along in the adoption journey or just now considering adoption, this support and availability are crucial to making your experience great.

Adoption Service #2: Nationwide Advertising

Showing adoptive family profiles to women considering adoption and finding adoption opportunities for hopeful families is known as “adoption advertising.”

Although some agencies advertise locally, American Adoptions invests in advertising across the country. This creates better adoption opportunities for hopeful families that are open to adopting from anywhere in the U.S.

One birth mother, Casey, was barely getting by on minimum-wage jobs when she made the selfless, brave choice to place her 2-year-old twin boys through our agency. She wanted her boys to have a good, promising future and for them to have parents who would be present in their lives.

“Some people are a product of their environment,” Casey said. “I didn’t want the streets to raise [her boys] because I’m so busy trying to provide for them,” Casey said. “I wanted them to have a father figure.”

Casey’s adoption specialist knew just the couple to fit her needs: Kim and Dave. Casey watched their video profile, and they all met in Casey’s hometown that weekend.

“The way I knew they were the family for my birth sons was when we went to the park,” she said. “The boys wanted to go down the slide, and their dad took the initiative not to take them up to the slide by themselves but to go down the slide with them.”

There are many American Adoptions families that have used our adoption services to create their forever families. You can read Casey’s full adoption story here.

Adoption Service #3: Full-Service Assistance

A full-service adoption agency has everything you need under one roof. With other adoption professionals, such as adoption consultants, adoption law centers and facilitators, you’ll receive only partial help with necessary adoption services.

As of July 2020, non-licensed facilitators and intermediaries are illegal in several states. This means only licensed adoption agencies like American Adoptions can coordinate your process. Each state government reviews licensed adoption agencies annually. This adds another layer of protection for everyone in the adoption triad.

Adoption Service #4: Financial Transparency

The adoption process is 100% free for prospective birth parents. But, the cost of adoption is often an adoptive family’s biggest concern.

The process can be expensive. Reliable adoption agencies should be transparent about their costs up‐front. Ask about these costs before you commit to working with them.

Doing plenty of research about what costs to expect can help you determine how beneficial some adoption services are.

Cost estimates from top-rated adoption agencies should include the total:

  • Administrative expenses

  • Legal expenses

  • Medical expenses

  • Living expenses

  • And more

Adoption Service #5: Financial Protection for Adoptive Families

Adoptive families can experience adoption disruptions at a moment’s notice for various reasons. While we do everything we can to avoid disruption, the truth is that there are some adoptions that don’t work out.

A prospective birth parent can change their mind about a family or the adoption itself at any point until signing adoption consent.

If this happens, then an adoptive family may have already invested considerable money into the adoption. But, when you work with us, you’ll qualify for our comprehensive Risk-Sharing Program.

This adoption disruption insurance protects your finances by refunding money invested in the adoption. We return this money directly to you, so you can decide if and when to pursue another adoption.

We respect the birth parent’s choice and protect your financial investment. There is an emotional loss when an adoption disruption occurs. But, there doesn’t have to be a financial loss, too.

Our Final Thoughts

There are many qualities to look for when you research beneficial adoption services, but these five “must-haves” are a good place to start.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do we need to retain our own attorney?

No, American Adoptions has established relationships with some of the best adoption attorneys in the nation. Because adoption laws vary from state to state and between counties, it is important to utilize the services of an adoption attorney who specializes in the state where the adoption will finalize, which is unknown until you match with an expectant mother. You have the right to retain your own attorney, but doing so may be an additional, unnecessary expense.

Can we choose the gender of our baby?

American Adoptions does not allow gender specificity in adoption. Any family who wishes to be gender-specific in their adoption should contact us at 1-800-ADOPTION and ask about the possibility of an exception waiver before taking any other steps toward adoption with our agency. Any families who do receive an exception to be gender-specific may also incur an additional fee, which helps cover the additional advertising costs of such a request.

Please note that gender specificity will likely increase your wait time significantly.
