| Erica | Posted: Apr 22, 2006 11:49:59 PM I believe that you need to tell your child as soon as possible. My parents first told me when I was 5 and I know that I didn't understand, but at least they were upfront and honest with me. They told me everything that I needed to know about my birth parents. The longer you wait, the more likely your child will be angry with you for keeping a secret that important.

| tay Jones | Posted: Mar 14, 2006 09:40:14 AM I think that it is best to tell the child that they were adopted as soon as posible.I say this because a child that is adopted should know that the parents is not the birthmother and/or father at an age were they can fully understand the meaning and can ask questions about the situation. So I say at about 13-16 is a good time to tell him/her that they were adopted.

| kelley | Posted: Feb 18, 2006 09:34:52 AM My sister and I were adopted from birth and I knew I was adopted for as long as I can remember. My mom read age appropriate books to us and it was just a normal part of who we were and where we came from.

| Dawn M. Boysen | Posted: Feb 01, 2006 11:17:13 AM I was not told that i was adopted until I was 14-years old..
Until I understood and knew what it meant to be adopted.
IGranted know adays kids are brighter then they were when I was adopted..
I think the age should be when the child can fully understand, the information you are giving to them..

| Julie | Posted: Dec 28, 2005 06:19:09 PM My question is when do you tell your child that he/she is adopted. My husband adopted my child when she was just 1year old. Know she is 10. If anyone could help me with this question I would love to hear from you!!
