| mary | Posted: Jan 24, 2007 10:38:03 AM Let me begin by saying my response is totally based on my experiences, limited knowledge and opinion. I think the answer to your question depends on what type of adoption you are looking for. If you are working with an agency, I would suppose it would depend on what states they are licensed and/or willing to work with. If the agency is familiar and able to network with the states you mentioned, I would suppose most would allow you to be state specific. However, realize that you are limiting yourself and likely increasing your wait time. When you mention toddler (up to 2), I also think of adopting through the state. In that case, you would need to contact the appropriate state agency (as in department that handles foster/adoption situations) and see what their requirements might be. I think most are open to working with people in other states, but they often give priority to those who actually reside in the state. However, if you are open to children in situations that make placement more difficult, you might have much better luck. I wish you the best as you embark on this exciting adventure!

| Misty | Posted: Jan 03, 2007 07:56:03 PM My husband and I are looking to adopt an infant of any race or sex. We have one biological child, a son who is 3. My question is can we be state specific? We would like to adopt from TN, NC, SC, GA, or AL. We want an open or semi-open adoption and be close enough for visits if we feel comfortable. Can this be done? Also can we only adopt an infant? We are open to a young child under 2. We are starting the home study process and hope to be approved in a few months.
