Pregnancy Weight Gain Calculator

How much weight should I gain?

The right answer is that it varies! You should be gaining weight during your pregnancy, since you are carrying another life inside of you, and it is important for your health and the health of your baby. The exact amount of weight gain will somewhat depend on how much you weighed prior to conception. Use the calculator below as a guideline.

Your weight before pregnancy: pounds
Weeks along into pregnancy:
Normal pregnancy weight: pounds

While the pregnancy weight gain calculator will provide you with an estimate on weight gain, the following chart is useful, as well.

Body Type Acceptable Weight Gain
Underweight: 28-40 pounds
Normal: 25-35 pounds
Overweight: 15-25 pounds
If you are expecting twins: 35-45 pounds

Most important: Your focus should not be so much on how much weight you are gaining but how well you are eating! If you consider this foremost, you can trust in your body to gain whatever is necessary to ensure a safe, healthy birth.
