Whether you adopted many years ago, or just completed your first adoption journey, American Adoptions looks forward to helping you grow your family even more through adoption!
As a returning family, you already know what to expect through the adoption journey and how our agency will help you every step of the way. However, there are certain steps unique to only our returning families that you must complete to become active with our agency once again:
Home Study
If your previous home study was completed by American Adoptions:
You do not need to re-submit a home study application. In order to begin your home study process again, please check the date of your last home study. If your home study is more than three years old, you will need to have a new home study done. This new home study will be built off of your previous home study. If it is less than three years old, you will need an extensive home study update.
If your previous home study was not completed by American Adoptions:
Please contact your home study provider for a new home study or update. Your provider will be able to provide you information regarding their requirements for an update.
Supporting Documents:
You will need to produce new copies of the following items:
- Criminal clearances (state and federal)
- Child abuse clearances
- All supporting documents. The only items that may be reused are birth and marriage certificates. Updated copies of all other documents are required.
Adoptive Family Profile:
Depending on how long ago your last profile was completed, you may have notice that our profiles have changed in appearance. This was the result of extensive research conducted by our Birth Parent Specialists, who asked birth parents what information they wished to see on a profile.
In order to update your profile, you may simply update your previous profile with new information, or you may work with Digital Graphiti Studios to create a new profile. You may contact Digital Graphiti Studios via e-mail or by calling (913) 438-3314 to discuss your options for updating your profile.
Fee Structure:
American Adoptions offers reduced fees for all of our returning families. This includes:
- Waiving the $195 Preliminary Application Fee
- $195 for a basic update to your profile (originally $325)
- A reduced Activation Fee of $6,500 for our traditional programs (originally $7,000)
