Adoption in Our Lives

Spending Time With Adrienne's Family

Adrienne comes from an adoptive family and appreciates the special circumstance that adoption brings. She was born in South Korea and came to the U.S. when she was a baby to her parents and older brother, who was also adopted. She grew up showered with unconditional love, affection, and support from her family and extended family. Her parents educated her early on about her cultural roots and empowered her to have a strong sense of self and belonging in the world. Growing up as a minority in the U.S. and in a diverse household taught Adrienne compassion and empathy, and it fostered her passion for travel and experiencing other cultures.

In addition, Joey has twin adopted cousins. His family always provided them with the same love and acceptance as biological family members. He has had several friends over the years who were also adopted, and understands the special sensitivities and considerations that an adopted child may face.

Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other

Photobooth Fun at a Friend's Wedding

Joey About Adrienne: Adrienne drew me in with her wit and charm, but what I grew to love most is her thoughtfulness. She always goes the extra mile for her loved ones and never stops thinking about others. She is loving and supportive, with a tireless work ethic when it comes to supporting her family. Adrienne has a knack for picking out the perfect gifts and making others feel seen and understood. She is an excellent planner and has an exceptional attention to detail. Her care and dedication are apparent in everything she does.

As a mother, she will be warm and caring, and will always be there to provide comfort and understanding. She will continue planning perfect birthday parties, day trips, and new activities to try as a family. She has a sharp fashion sense which she picked up from her mother, and she'll take delight in passing that down.

Adrienne About Joey: I admire Joey for his kindness, intelligence and sense of humor. He has a strong moral compass and leads with such integrity and conviction. Joey finds a way of making me laugh every day and tells the best stories – I can see him getting into character one day with impressions and voices, telling children's bedtime stories.

He has great taste in music and I can always count on him to play the best song for any given occasion (whether it's Neil Young for a long car ride or The Strokes for some impromptu dancing around the kitchen). He has a creative spirit and is open-minded when it comes to trying and learning new things.

I could always see Joey being a warm and dedicated parent – he prioritizes family, cares about the environment and those around him, and is fun-loving, patient, and compassionate. Joey's a great listener, trusted confidant, and my strongest advocate.

Addressing Cultural Diversity

Adrienne is Korean-American and was raised with incredible Italian cooking and a love for French culture. Her parents were brought up in Italian-American and French-Canadian families and passed down their traditions to her. Her family encouraged her to embrace her Korean roots by taking her to events hosted by her international foster agency and infused Korean dolls and traditional decor into her life. Adrienne's parents cultivated her respect and understanding of her cultural heritage and Adrienne confidently identifies with several cultures as a result.

Joey is Jewish and grew up celebrating Passover and Hanukkah with his family. He attended Jewish Sunday school as a child, and gained an appreciation for the stories of the Old Testament, and also the rich cultural history of his heritage, including timeless movies, music and food. One of the highlights of his life was a trip to Israel, where he touched the wall of the ancient temple and felt a connection to thousands of years of history. Being Jewish gave Joey a strong appreciation of diversity, as well as curiosity and respect for other cultures. As a native Atlantan, Joey also has a strong connection to his southern roots, especially when it comes to Braves baseball, okra and OutKast.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

Our home sits in a quiet neighborhood in a vibrant metropolitan town. We were drawn to the area for its top-ranked schools, lush parks, and close proximity to Joey's family.

Our area has a mix of small town charm and modern suburban living with lots of restaurants, shopping, and entertainment, and has a thriving downtown area that hosts a weekly farmer's market and events throughout the year. There are plenty of bike paths, local playgrounds to inspire imaginative play, and scenic parks for leisurely hikes, picnics, and walks. Our dog's favorite park is just around the corner from us and we take him there nearly every day.

We're just 30 minutes from downtown Atlanta, a diverse cultural hub with a rich history. We enjoy the global dining scene, local coffeeshops, Braves baseball games, museums, and more that the city offers.

Our subdivision is a fun and family-oriented community. The neighborhood pool, pool house, and outdoor playground area is the go-to spot for our neighborhood's holiday parties, bunco game nights, and potlucks. We immediately fell in love with our 4-bedroom, 4-bathroom home for all of its character and the space it would give us to grow a family. Our house is filled with natural light, a large kitchen for cooking & gathering, and has a beautifully landscaped and fully fenced backyard, great for relaxing and running around with our puppy.

Our Extended Families

With Joey's Mom

We're fortunate to live within 20 minutes of Joey's parents and extended family. We share many Sunday bagel brunches, holidays, and competitive (but friendly!) games of cornhole together.

Adrienne's parents live within driving distance in Florida. We enjoy meeting up with Adrienne's brother there for some quality family, pool, and beach time several times a year. Visiting their neighbor's alpaca farm is always a highlight of each trip!

When friends and family are around, we love playing tourist in our own city — discovering new restaurants, parks, gardens, and museums. We also enjoy hosting dinner parties on our patio, playing board games, swimming, and playing pickleball.

Adrienne & Her Cousin Making Pasta

Adrienne grew up in a Christian household, and Christmas is still a major yearly festivity. We enjoy baking dozens of cookies, decorating the house, and spending time with family. Joey grew up in a Jewish family, and we celebrate Passover, Hanukkah, and the high holidays with them by sharing special meals and stories. We plan to raise a child in an interfaith home with respect and knowledge of both religions and customs.

Our parents would love nothing more than to embrace and welcome a grandchild. Joey's father is eager to share his love of music, baseball, and trivia with a new generation. Adrienne's father needs a new audience for his dad jokes and will encourage his grandchild to become a master Lego builder. Both of our mothers will shower this child with affection, adorable outfits, and pass down many treasured recipes.

From Us to You

Thank you for taking the time to get to know us. We'd love to share a bit more to help you make your decision.

We've been together for 8 years, 4 of them married, and can't wait to grow our family. We balance each other out perfectly, between Adrienne's thoughtfulness, planning, and diligence, and Joey's creativity, humor, and resilience. We have an unbreakable bond, built on mutual love and respect for each other and have helped each other through all of the curveballs life has thrown. We take care of those around us with all of our hearts, and prioritize family above all else. When we found out that Adrienne had a condition that would make pregnancy risky for both her and the child, we had long talks about what that would mean for our family. We knew that no matter what, we wanted the gift of raising a child together.

Adrienne was adopted from Korea and grew up with adoring American parents and an adoptive brother. Their diverse household was filled with love, acceptance and encouragement to explore her identity and culture. We'll provide the same opportunity to this child in our own diverse family.

Adopting a child will be a dream come true for us. When we moved into our first house together, we prioritized a family-friendly community with excellent schools, diversity, plenty of parks, and close to our relatives. We have enough room to grow our family, and a yard big enough for a child to run around with our happy-go-lucky fluffball puppy, Lenny, who would be ecstatic to have a human sibling to play with. We believe in honesty, communication and empathy as a foundation for our relationship, and we promise to provide your child the best life based on those values.

We'll provide a safe and nurturing home, drawing on the values, wonderment, and joy of our childhoods. We'll raise him or her with a well-rounded upbringing, with a variety of experiences and exposure to new ideas. We'll help foster them to be lifelong learners and grow their appreciation of music, history, the arts, culinary endeavors and sports. We can't wait to teach them how to kick a soccer ball, use a record player, and make homemade pasta.

If you're open to it, we'd like to share in the celebration of milestones, such as first steps, first smile, and swimming lessons with you. We look forward to sending you letters, emails and pictures so you can stay connected to us with updates and happy occasions.

As the child grows older, we'll plan to share their adoption story positively and transparently, with information about where they came from, where they were born, and any other details that you're willing to share about your own life, background, and interests. Most importantly, we'll let them know your decision came from a place of pure love, selflessness, and compassion. We'll always respect you and cherish the special and unique bond that we'll share.

We're over the moon about becoming first-time parents. Our parents on both sides never miss a chance to share how ecstatic they will be to become first-time grandparents. We have a wonderful support network of close friends, family (and a handful of baby cousins and kid friends!) who will surround this child with immense love, support, wisdom, and strength.

We can only imagine what an emotional and difficult decision this is, and we hope that you'll consider entrusting us with the honor of loving and guiding this child forever. We look forward to getting to know you!

Sincerely,

Joey & Adrienne
