Adoption in Our Lives

On a Surprise Trip Phil Planned

Adoption has touched both of our lives in meaningful ways. On Audrey’s side, several close family friends have adopted children or were adopted themselves, and those relationships have always been embraced as fully and naturally as any biological connection. Audrey grew up seeing adoption not as an “alternative” way to build a family, but simply as one of the many beautiful and valid ways that love brings people together.

Phil’s family has also been impacted by adoption—his cousin was adopted, and that relationship has always been one of love, security, and belonging. Seeing how deeply rooted and genuine that connection has been made a lasting impression on both of us.

Because of these experiences, adoption has never felt like a “second choice” for us—it has always felt like a path we are genuinely and wholeheartedly excited to walk. We see it as a powerful, loving way to grow a family, and we have such deep respect for the strength, care, and selflessness it takes to consider placing a child for adoption.

We know that adoption is not simple—it involves big emotions and lifelong connections—and we are committed to honoring and holding space for all parts of that journey. We’re excited to welcome a child into a life full of love, stability, laughter, and support—and to stay grounded in gratitude for the trust it takes to make that possible.

Our Lifestyle

A Night Out in Paris

Our lifestyle is rooted in curiosity, connection, and being present with the people we love. We’re active and adventurous. Travel is a big part of our lives, but we focus more on traveling than vacationing. We love immersing ourselves in new cultures, trying unfamiliar foods, and learning how other people live.

Some of Phil’s favorite memories come from time spent in Mozambique and Eswatini, where he traveled with childhood friends from camp. Both of us lived in Costa Rica during college, and it remains a place we hold close to our hearts. Together, we’ve traveled through Spain, Italy, and France with friends, sharing meals, navigating unfamiliar streets, and soaking in the beauty of new places and perspectives.

At home, we spend our time cooking together, hosting friends, exploring parks, and saying yes to new experiences—whether it’s a local workshop, trying a new hobby, or planning our next adventure. We value movement, fresh air, and being fully engaged with the world around us.

We’ve built a life that blends stability with spontaneity, rooted in love, laughter, and lifelong learning. We’re excited to raise a child in this kind of environment—where curiosity is encouraged, experiences are shared, and each day holds opportunities for connection and discovery.

Cultural Diversity

Cultural diversity is not just something we value—it’s a core part of who we are and how we live. We chose to make our home in Mt. Airy, one of Philadelphia’s most racially, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse neighborhoods, because we believe humans thrive when surrounded by a variety of perspectives, traditions, and lived experiences.

When deciding what races and cultures we were open to adopting, we thought deeply about our current village and the future community we could intentionally build. We know that representation isn’t just about what a child sees—it’s also about who they know and have real, meaningful relationships with. Our family, friends, neighbors, and broader support network reflect the diversity we hope our child will grow up feeling part of—not just visually, but emotionally and spiritually.

We’re committed to raising a child with a strong sense of identity, pride, and belonging. That means creating a home filled with books, media, traditions, and conversations that celebrate their culture and experiences. It also means actively seeking out mentors, peers, and spaces where our child can see themselves reflected and valued.

We understand that love alone isn’t enough—it must be paired with listening, action, education, and humility. We’re ready and excited to parent in a way that honors and uplifts every part of who our child is and will become.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We live in Mt. Airy, a neighborhood in Philadelphia that’s known for being incredibly diverse—racially, culturally, and economically. That’s one of the biggest reasons we chose it. We want to be in a place that reflects a wide range of lived experiences, and where our future child will be surrounded by people of all backgrounds. Mt. Airy is also a really active community—there are block parties, art and pottery workshops, literacy events, and local programs for both adults and kids.

Our street is especially family-friendly. Just on our block, there are at least 10 kids between newborn and 12 years old. It’s common to see them playing outside while parents chat. It feels safe, connected, and full of life.

We’re lucky to have tons of kid-friendly spots nearby, too. Mallery Playground is just a block away with swings, a play structure, and basketball courts. Awbury Arboretum has natural playscapes with ziplines and fairy trails, plus farm classes and camps. The Wissahickon offers miles of trails, and we love “Supper Sessions” and “First Fridays” when our main street closes to cars so everyone can eat and play outside together.

Our home is a cozy, light-filled three-story twin from the 1920s with four bedrooms, two and a half baths, a fenced backyard, and a front porch we love. Our neighbors are good friends, and their daughter is best buddies with our dog. We look forward to raising children here surrounded by nature, community, and joy.

Our Extended Families

Audrey's Family

Our families are big, blended, and full of love. Audrey is the oldest of five siblings—biological and step, though those distinctions don’t matter to us. What makes our family unique is how intentionally we stay connected. It’s not unusual for a get-together to include Audrey’s mom and stepdad, her dad, her stepdad’s ex-wife and her husband, Phil’s parents, our siblings and their partners, and even step-siblings’ step-siblings and friends.

Phil's Family

Audrey’s brother Trey lives with us, and her sister Katherine and her fiancé are in Brooklyn. Her cousin Victoria is close by in the Philly suburbs with her husband and son. Phil’s aunt, uncle, and cousins are close by in DC. The rest of our family is in St. Louis and Texas, but we don’t let distance become a barrier in our relationships.

One of our favorite traditions is “Kidz Camp”—our yearly sibling-and-partners weekend. Every year has a theme, but there’s always some kind of friendly competition: diving contests, cornhole, Blackjack, joke-of-the-day, and lots of pool time. We also take Hot Girl Walks—yes, even the guys—just to grab coffee or get outside together.

From Us to You

Thank you. We know these two simple words can’t fully capture the depth of our gratitude - for your time, your consideration, and your courage. We can’t begin to imagine the weight of the decision you’re making, but we hold deep respect for you - for your strength, your love, and your hopes for your child’s future.

We’re Audrey and Phil, a married couple who’ve been together since 2017. Our relationship is rooted in deep friendship, shared values, lots of laughter, and a real commitment to building a life filled with love, purpose, and joy. Adoption has always been part of our vision for growing our family, and we’re so grateful to be in a place where we can offer a child a life full of adventure, support, and belonging.

Phil is calm, steady, and thoughtful - the kind of person who brings a sense of peace to even the most overwhelming moments. Audrey is curious, quick to laugh, and a natural problem-solver - someone who brings warmth and energy into any space she’s in. Together, we balance each other in a way that makes our home feel grounded, playful, and full of love.

We live in Mt. Airy, a vibrant, diverse neighborhood in Philadelphia known for its strong sense of community. Our house is cozy and light-filled, with a fenced-in backyard and a front porch where we relax with our dog and catch up with neighbors. Our block is full of families and kids, and the community vibe is palpable - block parties, local parks, and family-friendly events are part of the rhythm of daily life here.

Family and community are everything to us. Audrey comes from a big, blended family where everyone has a seat at the table - literally and figuratively. Phil’s family is smaller but just as close-knit, and both sides are beyond excited to welcome a new little one. We’re surrounded by siblings, cousins, and chosen family who can’t wait to love, support, and help raise this child.

We believe in raising a child who feels seen, safe, and free to grow into exactly who they are. Our home will be filled with books, hugs, silliness, music, open conversations, and deep belly laughs. We believe in hands-on learning, and Audrey - who’s a Montessori-trained educator - is especially passionate about helping children develop confidence, curiosity, and independence from an early age. We’ll support our child whether their path leads to college, a trade, creative work, or something entirely their own.

If you choose us, your child will grow up knowing their story, knowing you, and knowing just how deeply they are loved. We will send you letters and pictures regularly, and if you’re open to it, we’d love to stay connected through emails, phone calls, or even visits. We want to build a relationship that honors your comfort level and keeps the door open for continued connection.

We know that adoption is not a single decision, but a lifelong journey - and we don’t take that responsibility lightly. We promise to raise your child with compassion, joy, honesty, and unconditional love. We will always speak of you with respect and gratitude, and we will hold your place in their story with care and pride.

Thank you again for taking the time to learn about us. We are honored and humbled by your consideration, and whatever path you choose, we’re sending you strength and love for the road ahead.

With warmth and respect,

Phil & Audrey
