What It Means to Become Parents

Christmas With Our Pup, Potato

For us, adoption represents the chance to build the family we've always envisioned, rooted in love, stability, and shared growth. Becoming adoptive parents specifically is something we have talked about for many years. Parenthood means guiding a child with patience, teaching them confidence and kindness, and giving them a home where they always feel safe and celebrated.

We understand that adoption is a profound gift built on trust, and we don't take that lightly. We hope to honor that trust by being steady, compassionate, and fully present. Parenting, to us, isn't about perfection, it's about showing up every single day with love, curiosity, and humility. We imagine a home filled with laughter, routines that feel comforting, and moments that become memories. We want to raise a child who knows they belong, who feels supported in their interests, and who grows up confident in who they are. Adopting a child would expand our hearts and our family, bringing purpose and joy into the life we already love.

Qualities We Admire in Each Other

At a Gym Event

One of the strongest parts of our relationship is the respect we have for each other's strengths as we are complete opposites! We admire qualities in one another that make our partnership balanced, warm, and resilient. Theresa has a very calm, grounding presence, someone who approaches challenges thoughtfully and listens fully before reacting. This patience and steadiness are traits that naturally create a sense of safety. While David brings warmth, creativity, and a sense of humor that fills our home with optimism. This energy reminds us not to take life too seriously, to find joy in small moments, and to keep a healthy sense of perspective. And we also share a deep commitment to supporting the people we love and showing up consistently, whether that's our family, friends, gym members, or coworkers.

Our qualities complement one another and help shape our home environment, making it steady but fun, and reliable but playful. We believe these traits will translate naturally into parenthood. A child would grow up seeing two adults who respect each other, communicate kindly, and work through challenges as a team. We hope to model a relationship built on love, effort, and partnership.

Fun Facts About Us:

  • David said "I love you" within the first 5 weeks of dating.
  • They both hate hiking (but love going on walks in the city).
  • Theresa is the better griller (David burns everything).
  • Theresa thought dandelions were yellow and David thought they were white. (It was a monumental moment in the relationship when we both learned dandelions are both colors!)
  • Theresa thinks she is better at driving in the snow, especially because she grew up in Michigan. But David believes he's the better snow driver.
  • No matter where we are going, David always seems to find super close (usually front row) parking.
  • One of our nightly rituals is before we go to sleep, we share any IG videos we saved for each other that day.
  • We love indulging in reality TV.

    Our House and Neighborhood

Fourth of July Party at Our Home

We currently live in Washington in a two-floor, two-bedroom condo. Our building has only three units total, which gives it a quiet, close-knit feel that we really appreciate. Our home occupies the top two floors, and one of the most unique aspects of our space is that the entire length of our unit overlooks the lake. Waking up and ending each day with that view is something that feels special to us and sets our home apart.

Although we live within the city, we're far enough removed from the busy downtown energy that our neighborhood feels peaceful and calm. We often describe our home as a small fortress—somewhere we can retreat, recharge, and feel grounded. Our community is supportive in the ways that matter most: neighbors look out for one another, people greet each other by name, and there's a shared understanding that everyone values the quiet and comfort of the area.

What makes our situation unique is this blend of access and tranquility. We're close to everything the city offers, yet our home feels tucked away, almost like a lakeside escape. It's a space that reflects who we are and the kind of environment where we feel most at ease.

    Our Extended Families

    With Theresa's Parents

Family is at the center of our lives, and we are fortunate to be surrounded by an incredibly supportive and close-knit group of people. One moment that truly reflects who we are as a family was when David's mother experienced a stroke. Without hesitation, our entire family came together to support her during a very difficult time. Everyone showed up, helped however they could, and reminded us how deeply connected and dependable our family truly is. That sense of showing up for one another defines us.

    With David's Parents

When we spend time together, it's usually relaxed and joyful—watching TV, eating out, spending time outdoors, or simply hanging out and catching up. We also love hosting and we regularly attend family get togethers. David's parents, sister, her wife, and their two children all live within ten miles of us, which allows for frequent visits and strong bonds. Theresa's parents, brother and wife live in Michigan, and although farther away, they remain very involved and supportive.

Our family is very enthusiastic about our adoption plan and is genuinely excited to welcome a child. They are eager to help by spending time with this child, assisting with daycare, and being present in everyday life. We know this strong, loving support system will surround this child with care, consistency, and a true sense of belonging.

    From Us to You

Thank you for taking the time to read our letter and get to know a little about us. Before anything else, we want you to know that we see the strength, courage, and love behind the decision you're considering. We can't pretend to fully understand what this journey feels like for you, but we carry a deep respect for the thought, reflection, and emotional weight that brought you here. Your willingness to explore all possibilities for your child speaks to a level of love that is both powerful and incredibly brave.

We're Theresa and David, and we are profoundly grateful for the opportunity to grow our family through adoption. The idea that someone might trust us with something as precious as their child is humbling beyond words. If we are chosen, your child would enter a home that is warm, steady, joyful, and full of deep commitment. We value laughter, honesty, compassion, and showing up for one another... not just in big moments, but in the small, everyday ways that build a strong family.

If you choose us, we promise your child will always feel safe, supported, and unconditionally loved. We believe in nurturing curiosity, encouraging resilience, and giving a child the space to become exactly who they are meant to be. We imagine days filled with adventure and exploration, as well as quiet routines that bring comfort and stability. Whether it's celebrating milestones, hanging in the kitchen, reading bedtime stories, or exploring new places as a family, we are ready to embrace every part of parenthood with open hearts.

Our home is filled with warmth, a little 10lb dog named Potato who brings daily joy, and a community of friends and family who are ready to surround a child with love. We are both hardworking, committed people, but we believe strongly in balancing responsibility with meaningful family time. We cook together, travel, stay active, and enjoy peaceful evenings curled up with Potato. These simple moments are the foundation of our life, and we're excited to share them with a child.

We also want you to know that we will always honor your child's story and the essential place you have in it. You will never be an invisible part of their life. Your child will grow up knowing that their journey began with your extraordinary love and the thoughtful, selfless decision you made. We will speak of you with genuine respect and gratitude, and we will ensure they understand the depth of your care. If openness is something you desire, we welcome the opportunity to build a connection that feels comfortable and meaningful to everyone involved. And if you prefer more privacy, we will honor that as well. What matters most is that you feel supported in your decisions and confident in the path you choose.

Thank you again for considering us. No matter what choice you make, we hope you find clarity, comfort, and strength throughout this process. What you are doing takes incredible courage, and we admire you more than we can express.

    With heartfelt gratitude,

    David & Theresa
