Our Cultural Heritage

Hiking

Both of us come from rich and distinct cultural backgrounds that have shaped their values, traditions, and daily life.

Tim's cultural heritage is rooted in Germany, passed down through his mother's side of the family. He spent many childhood summers with his grandparents in Germany. It's there that he developed love and appreciation for food (marzipan cake was his childhood's favorite!), architecture, and Germany's festive traditions like the Christmas markets. He continues to speak some German and holds onto the memories he shared with his grandparents all those years ago.

Oksana was born and raised in Ukraine before moving to the United States in 2003 to pursue higher education. Her Ukrainian heritage remains a meaningful part of her identity. She stays connected to her roots through traditional celebrations, old family recipes, and even the small customs passed down from her childhood, like natural remedies or the nostalgic cartoons and films she grew up watching. Oksana still has family in Ukraine, and that ongoing connection helps her keep her culture alive and close to heart.

Together, we can't wait to share parts of these traditions with our child. We want to raise a child who is curious about the world, loves to travel, embraces diversity, and values the beauty in learning about different cultures and perspectives. We believe this foundation will help foster an open-minded, compassionate worldview.

Qualities We Admire in Each Other

At a Local Festival

Oksana About Tim: I deeply admire Tim's steady and patient nature. He has a calming presence that brings peace wherever he goes, whether at home, work, or with friends. His ability to stay grounded in any situation is something I look up to. He is also incredibly determined and hardworking. These qualities bring reassurance and stability in a world that often feels chaotic.

Tim About Oksana: One of the things I admire most about Oksana is her intelligence and ability to break down complex situations and reason through them with clarity and logic. She is incredibly driven and dedicated, especially in her work. At the same time, she brings so much joy and energy into our home: dancing in the kitchen while cooking or turning an ordinary walk into a spontaneous snowball fight.

Our Family Traditions

Our Real Christmas Tree

One of our favorite family traditions takes place on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, when we go out with Oksana's parents to find our Christmas tree. We always get a real tree, either from a local farm or from a community lot where proceeds go to charity. The day begins with Oksana's mom making her famous homemade hot chocolate, which has a touch of spice and salt, and we sip it while listening to Christmas music and driving to pick the perfect tree. The tree selection is serious business! We usually choose a 6-foot one, and once it's home, we spend the rest of the day decorating together.

When we open the boxes of ornaments, we read a letter we wrote to ourselves the previous January, a special tradition we started years ago. It's a moment of reflection and gratitude as we revisit our goals, dreams, and what the year brought to life.

That evening, we gather again with Oksana's parents for what we call our "Christmas Tree Celebration Dinner," which officially kicks off the holiday season. From there, the weeks are filled with cozy winter traditions: watching Christmas movies, baking treats, wrapping gifts, attending our town's Christmas festival and collecting toys for local drives.

This tradition is filled with warmth, intention, and connection. It reminds us of what matters most: family, love, presence, and shared memories. We can't wait to one day share this tradition with our child and create new memories as a family.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Cozy Living Room

We live in a vibrant and welcoming community in a charming small city in Tennessee. Our neighborhood is gated and full of character. It is quiet, safe, with beautiful landscaping and friendly neighbors. One of our favorite things about where we live is the access to shared spaces that bring people together: a beautiful neighborhood pool, a cozy clubhouse. Just down the street, there is a park with a wonderful playground where families gather regularly and walking trails. We are also within walking distance of local shops and restaurants, which makes evening strolls or last-minute ice cream runs extra fun, especially in the summer when the grassy area near Jeni's Ice Cream is full of children playing and neighbors catching up.

Our downtown hosts seasonal festivals and events year-round, including parades, craft fairs, and the beloved Christmas Festival, which fills the streets with music, costumes, and holiday cheer. Every Saturday, we love visiting the local farmers market just down the street for fresh produce and artisan treats.

At home, our space is warm and cozy. We spend most of our time cooking meals together in the kitchen or watching family movies in the living room with a favorite snack. We look forward to sharing these traditions with a child and creating new memories as a family, filled with love, joy, and laughter.

Our Extended Families

Traveling With Family

Family means a great deal to us, and we're incredibly grateful to be surrounded by a strong, loving support system made up of both family and friends.

As a child, Tim spent many summers with his grandparents, and one of his favorite memories going to a local ice cream shop. He vividly remembers lemon ice cream his grandfather always ordered; it was a simple joy they shared that left a lasting impression. Today, we live just a short walk from an artisan ice cream shop. Walking hand-in-hand to get a scoop feels like honoring that connection. We sometimes daydream about doing the same with our future child, wondering whether they'll choose vanilla or chocolate, a waffle or sugar cone.

Visiting Gardens With Family

In Oksana's childhood, baking was always a family affair. Whether for birthdays, holidays, or even an ordinary Sunday, she was in the kitchen helping her mom and grandma whip up layered cakes from scratch—sneaking tastes of condensed milk from the spatula. While we don't bake as often now, we love revisiting those recipes and remembering the closeness that filled the kitchen. It still brightens Oksana's grandmother's day when they talk about those times.

These are the kinds of connections we value—love passed from one generation to the next through small, meaningful moments. We can't wait to share this kind of love with a child. Please know that this child will be surrounded by care and encouragement, not only from us as parents, but from our extended family and friends.

From Us to You

Thank you for taking the time to read our letter and consider our profile. While we cannot fully understand the depth of emotion and complexity behind the decision you are facing, we want you to know that we respect it deeply. We imagine this process comes with many feelings, some difficult, some uncertain, and we don't take it lightly that you are considering us as potential parents for your child.

We are a married couple and have been happily married for over five years. Our relationship is built on mutual respect, kindness, and a lot of laughter. We are one of those couples who genuinely enjoy doing life together whether it's grocery shopping, cleaning the house, traveling, attending a concert, or cheering at a hockey game. We find joy in the everyday moments, and we look forward to sharing that joy with a child.

Our home is filled with warmth, love, and a steady sense of support. We believe in raising a child with a strong foundation of security and encouragement. If we are chosen, your child will grow up in an environment where they are unconditionally loved, heard, and supported. We are excited about the opportunity to pass on traditions, values, and life experiences, but even more than that, we are excited to simply show up every day as loving and devoted parents.

We understand how important it is for a child to know their story and where they come from. If chosen, we will always speak of you with respect and gratitude. We will ensure your child grows up knowing they are deeply loved and chosen. We are committed to sending letters and pictures to keep you updated and connected. We want this child to grow up with a sense of wholeness, knowing that their story began with courage, love, and hope.

While there are many wonderful and deserving families hoping to adopt, we hope something in our profile resonates with you. We want to assure you that, if chosen, we will dedicate ourselves to nurturing your child, encouraging their curiosity, celebrating their uniqueness, and guiding them through life with grace and love. We hope to create a life for them filled with meaningful traditions, learning, fun, and the security of knowing they are treasured beyond words.

If you have any questions or would like to get to know us better, we would truly love to connect. We are happy to answer anything you are wondering about, and we are open to jumping on a phone call or video chat if that feels right for you. We want you to feel confident and at peace with your decision, and we welcome the chance to share more about who we are and the life we hope to build as parents.

It would be our greatest honor to become parents through adoption. Thank you for considering us and for the strength you show in even reading these letters. Whatever decision you make, we are thinking of you and praying for clarity, peace, and support in every step of your journey.

With heartfelt respect and gratitude,

Timothy & Oksana
