Father is supportive.

In the event of an unplanned pregnancy, some fathers exhibit wonderfully supportive behavior, and are willing to work as a team with the mother to do whatever both feel is best for the baby’s future.

If the father of your baby falls into this category, embrace the opportunity to work together to choose what you both feel is the best life for the baby you have created together. In fact, if the father of your baby is supportive, it is likely that he will experience many of the same feelings of grief and loss that you find yourself in the throes of. While you are going through one of the most intense periods of your life, be prepared to be supportive of him, as well. He needs you, too.

With your baby’s father playing a supportive role throughout this process, realize how unique and special that is. Many men choose to virtually ignore the pregnancy or worse, express their disapproval of your choice, yet offer little to no help in the way of parenting. It’s a good idea to let a supportive father know just how much you appreciate his strength and support – it will mean as much to him, too!
