Adoption Success Rates

As an adoptive family, you deserve to work with an agency that can show successful adoption rates and provide the resources to give you the best chance at completing a safe adoption with the shortest wait time.

Adoption success statistics directly reflect how an adoption agency or professional completes adoptions. As an adoptive family, this is crucial information needed when choosing an agency to pursue your adoption journey.

Over 30 years of providing adoption services, families who remain on our list have experienced a 97% success rate in completing their adoption, resulting in more than 13,000 families.

Asking an adoption professional to provide information on adoption success rates is a good place to start when choosing an agency. We’re happy to talk to you about our industry-leading success and more than 30 years of experience building families.

What Adoption Success Rates Mean for You

Put simply: A high adoption success rate means confidence in your family's future. If you are like most adoptive families, you've waited a long time to hold a newborn in your arms and experience the joys of parenthood. We want to help you see that dream fulfilled.

Low wait times, financial transparency and a 97% success rate are three big benefits we provide to adoptive families.

There are two keys to our high adoption success rate:

  • Our contract never expires: We won’t stop supporting you until you have successfully completed an adoption. Many other professionals use contracts that expire in two years. When that contract is up, their services are done — regardless of whether you’ve completed the process.

  • Your finances are protected: If you experience an adoption disruption, we protect your finances so you can move forward. You won’t have to worry about saving up again because you won’t lose money.

Unfortunately, unlicensed professionals often give misleading information about success rates, which can cause families to make decisions they later regret. We believe that nothing matters more than your family's future, and we want to help you avoid making a decision that could jeopardize your adoption plans.

We encourage you to read through these two guides to better understand the risks of working with unlicensed professionals:

Your Agency Matters

When an adoptive family stays on our active waiting list, they will complete their adoption and become a mom or a dad. This is the type of confidence and security you should experience when starting your adoption journey.

However, this isn't possible if a family chooses to work with a professional that offers an expiring contract. From the start, there's a deadline set for the adoption. When that deadline is up, that adoption has failed, which results in a much lower adoption success rate. Not only has that adoption failed, but the family is now faced with an impossible decision: Stop pursuing their dreams or repay thousands in lost fees.

This is not how adoption should be done because it doesn't put you and your family first.

For over 30 years, we've provided ethical adoption services because we believe you deserve the chance to fulfill your dreams. With our non-expiring contracts, financial protection, honest cost estimates and low average wait times, you can feel confident in the success of your adoption.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do we need to retain our own attorney?

No, American Adoptions has established relationships with some of the best adoption attorneys in the nation. Because adoption laws vary from state to state and between counties, it is important to utilize the services of an adoption attorney who specializes in the state where the adoption will finalize, which is unknown until you match with an expectant mother. You have the right to retain your own attorney, but doing so may be an additional, unnecessary expense.

Can we choose the gender of our baby?

American Adoptions does not allow gender specificity in adoption. Any family who wishes to be gender-specific in their adoption should contact us at 1-800-ADOPTION and ask about the possibility of an exception waiver before taking any other steps toward adoption with our agency. Any families who do receive an exception to be gender-specific may also incur an additional fee, which helps cover the additional advertising costs of such a request.

Please note that gender specificity will likely increase your wait time significantly.
