Our Lifestyle

Kayaking With Humpback Whales

We live an active lifestyle and are happiest when immersed in the outdoors. Recently we have thoroughly enjoyed sharing this passion with our families. In the evenings or during a relaxing day off we appreciate the opportunity to spend time inside as a couple cozying up for a movie or playing games with family and friends.

Throughout the year, we both have periods of time where we work from home or are "between seasons." Brigitte runs her own business as an educational consultant and teaching medical courses and works part-time for our local ambulance service. This allows her to have flexible work hours and to frequently work from home. Corey works as a professional ski patroller in the winter and is employed year-round working part-time with a guiding company in Alaska where he does a mix of remote work and in-person training and trip development.

While California is our home-base, we also spend a few weeks each summer in Southeast Alaska with family. Much of our time there is spent enjoying a myriad of outdoor activities and helping to care for our niece and nephew.

We look forward to bringing a child into our lifestyle and are excited to share our interests and passions with them. We also look forward to allowing them space to develop and pursue their own interests.

Our Leisure Time

With Family at a Local Hot Spring

Outdoor activities generally occupy the majority of our leisure time, however, we frequently enjoy more relaxed endeavors. There are several natural hot springs nearby and we hope to have a hot tub of our own soon. A good soak always warms our bodies and souls. This is often followed up with a board game such as Azul or watching a movie or TV show while snuggled up on our giant bean bag chair.

When spending time with our nieces or nephews both of us enjoy playing made-up games like "hair monster," "steam roller," or "sticky slime," as well as your more traditional hide-and-seek. When we are all ready to settle down, pulling out arts and crafts material or cozying up to read a children's book are great ways to pass the time.

We believe that it's important to strike a balance between outdoor adventures, child's play, and intellectually stimulating activities both for ourselves and children.

Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other

Brigitte About Corey: I love that Corey is a big kid at heart. He loves to play especially outside. I admire his ability to live in the moment and his appreciation for life. He stays calm during moments of chaos. He is great with children. He works hard. He provides space for me to be independent. I also love how much he values spending time with his family.

Corey About Brigitte: Brigitte is an independent, empathetic and self-motivated woman. I admire how she consistently puts others before herself. As an educator she takes the time to create the best opportunity for her students to succeed. She is passionate about her work and strives to make positive impacts on both individuals and the community. I love that she enjoys spending time with children and interacts well with kids of all ages. We share many of the same values, love spending time outdoors together, and have similar philosophies on how to care for and raise a child. These shared values, views and interests, and the fact that I know she will be a great mother, make me excited to grow our family together.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Two A-Frame Houses During a Snowy Winter

We live in a small, rural mountain resort town in California surrounded by beautiful mountains, streams, lakes and hot springs. It is a close-knit community where we are always running into someone we know. During the winter the community activities are centered around the ski area where there are numerous events each month. In the summertime the activity transitions into the neighborhoods and town where the constant sunshine gets everyone outside.

Our home is nestled in a quiet neighborhood. It is a place where the residents watch out for one another. During the summer and fall, kids can safely play in the street and are often seen riding bikes and skateboards with their friends. In the winter, due to shorter daylight, colder temps, and snow coverage, it becomes quieter as people tend to stay inside in the afternoon/evenings. Game nights with friends become more frequent.

Our unique A-Frame style home has two bedrooms, an office space, an open concept living room-kitchen, and a large front deck where we hope to install a hot tub soon. We enjoy spending time in our living room playing games or watching movies while snuggling on our oversized bean bag chair.

Our Extended Families

Brigitte's Family

Spending quality time with family is something we both strongly value. While we don't have any family that live close by, we still manage to see them weekly and visit in person multiple times a year. Beginning in 2010, Corey's family started a weekly family Skype call when his three siblings were all living and working in different countries. To this day, we enjoy visiting and sharing stories from the week with family that Skype in from all over the planet. In 2020 Brigitte's family started a weekly Zoom call too. It's been a great way to see everyone's faces and stay in touch throughout the year. In addition to seeing them online, both of our families visit us to enjoy our natural playground. We also drive down to Southern California to spend time with some of Brigitte's family, and in the summer, we spend several weeks with Corey's family in Alaska. Most years all his siblings and their families will be together for a week or two around the 4th of July.

Corey's Family

Family time is often spent enjoying time together in the outdoors: skiing or sledding in the winter and hiking, camping, kayaking, boating, paddling, or exploring glaciers in the summer. When together, family dinners, backyard BBQs, and beach potlucks are a daily occurrence.

Our entire extended family is excited to welcome your child and we are excited to immerse them in an environment full of love, laughter, and adventure.

From Us to You

We are excited to grow our family through adoption and appreciate you taking the time to consider us as prospective parents to your child. We recognize how challenging this time may be for you and hope you find comfort in knowing that if you choose us as adoptive parents your child will be raised in a safe, nurturing, and fun environment where they will be loved every day.

We have been together for fifteen years and married for eight. In 2006, we met at a wilderness based first aid course at UCLA. We were both currently EMTs and were taking the course to be better prepared to handle emergencies while working as outdoor educators.

We quickly realized we shared many of the same values and passions and stayed in touch following the course. Over time our relationship naturally developed. We shared many adventures together before deciding we wanted to grow our family. After multiple years of being unsuccessful in having a biological child of our own, we sought help from reproductive specialists. Following numerous appointments, we were told we would be unable to conceive. Surprisingly, a few months later Brigitte became pregnant, but unfortunately miscarried in week six. This was devastating and took a couple of years to process the loss. During that time, we had close friends adopt through the foster care system and frequently discussed the option of adoption in addition to other infertility treatments. After much discussion and research, we decided infant adoption was the route we wanted to take to grow our family and achieve the dream of becoming parents.

We believe a parent's job is to raise children to be the best person they can be. It's a huge responsibility and one that requires an abundance of patience, love, and understanding. It requires providing a loving and trusting environment that encourages and creates space for open communication, respect, independence, exploration, learning and fun.

We both cherish opportunities to spend time with our nieces, nephews, and friend's children whether it be reading books, playing games, sharing outdoor adventures, or putting them to bed. After spending some extended time with one of our nieces and nephews, our 4-year-old niece told her mother, "I have to listen to you, daddy, and Uncle Corey, because you're the parents". Then recently, Corey's sister told her 7-year-old son that she had another birthday present for him. He asked, "is it a person?" She replied, "no, but if it was, who would it be?" He exclaimed, "Aunt Brigitte!"

Seeing an infant's smile, hearing a toddler's laugh, or observing a child's wonderment from a new experience seem to erase the everyday trials and tribulations of parenting. We are excited to take on the responsibility of parenting and being able to share our values, experiences, and time with a child as a family.

With adoption, we believe being open is best for the child and that it is important that they know their unique story. Maintaining a positive attitude toward adoption and keeping it a topic that is openly discussed will be necessary to help the child create a positive self-image and identity. From the beginning, we will let them know the decision for them to be placed for adoption was made from a strong love for them. As they grow, we will facilitate age-appropriate discussions to help them process their adoption throughout their journey in life.

We'd love to share letters and photos so you can see your child growing up happy and healthy. If interested, we are open to all levels of communication, including phone calls, emails, and future visits.

We look forward to welcoming your child and you into our home and being given the opportunity to be fun, loving, and nurturing parents.

Kindly and With Gratitude,

Corey & Brigitte
