Susan & Tawnya
We cannot express how excited and humbled we feel to be considered to be a part of your child's life. We love all the experiences and opportunities life has to offer and want the chance to share these with your child. We are dedicated to a home with unconditional love, joy, and support and we would be forever grateful for this gift. Thank you for the opportunity!
Adoption in Our Lives
Adoption is already a big part of our lives. Tawnya and her sister are both adopted. Tawnya is extremely close with her sister and parents. She has always known that she is adopted and always felt supported by her parents.
Since Tawnya had such a great experience with her adoption and we are a same sex couple, we knew we would have to be creative to have a child. We were successful with our first adoption of our daughter, Lucy and want her to have the ability to be a big sister. She will love playing with a sibling and giving them lots of love. We want the birth parents to feel comfortable in the process and trust that we will be the best parents we are capable of and offer the same positive adoption experience that Tawnya had (and we had with Lucy).
Aside from being raised in a 100% supportive 100% unconditional loving family, we want this child to have every opportunity they can in order to be happy and grow as a person. We know can provide that foundation and allow for this child to grow in whatever way they need.
Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other
We are a great team and lucky to be able to share our lives together! We are a great balance and bring out the best in each other.
Tawnya is fun-loving and has a real zest for life. She could have fun in a paper bag! She works with children that have special needs, so she also has a lot of patience and is a really good communicator. Also working with children, Tawnya has great ideas and fun projects for kids to do.
Susan is loyal, hardworking and caring. She developed a strong work ethic and takes great pride in everything that she does. She has a great sense of humor and likes to laugh and keep a good work/life balance. Family is important to both of us and ensuring we have a loving, supportive family behind us is everything. Additionally, bringing up a happy and healthy child in this world is something we love in each other and know that together we can make that happen.
Our Family Traditions
Family is very important in our lives and having family traditions is so much fun! We have many favorites that we look forward to each year, such as carving pumpkins as an extended family alongside bobbing for apples and eating pie. We also look for any excuse to create a new tradition as a family - This year we added a back to school barbecue with night swimming and a bonfire with s'mores! Every winter we love to make time to decorate gingerbread houses with our two nieces, Tawnya's sister and her parents. Everyone comes over to our house, we set up a gingerbread house for each person and have enough candy/supplies to decorate and eat! Most of the candy ends up on the floor so our dog, Gus, loves this tradition! We spend time together decorating our houses, sipping on hot chocolate and joking about whose house is the best or still needs a bunch of work! We like to play holiday music in the background and light the fire to really get into the spirit and set the mood. Everyone takes their houses home to put up through the holidays to help decorate. It has become a family tradition that we want to continue with our next child.

Our House and Neighborhood
Our home is comfortable and planned for family gatherings. We have five bedrooms - one is an office and another room we made into a fun game room. The game room is our favorite room in the house. It has an old-school, two-player game machine that has over 30 games; including Ms. Pac-Man and Frogger! It also has a TV with Nintendo to spend some fun time playing Super Mario Brothers, as well as 80 other games.
Although we love the inside of our house, the backyard is our favorite space where we have a grill for barbecuing and a pool and spa. We love to have the family over for pool days where we soak up the sun, grill and eat together as a family at our large outdoor table. Lucy, our daughter, loves to swim in the pool. We have room to add a swing set and play house and also have lots of grass out front to run and play on.
We have an active neighborhood where people are constantly walking their dogs or their strollers in the sun. We take our Shih Zhu dog, Gus, for walks around the block. We are also a quick 20 minutes to the beach if we feel like getting some sand underneath our toes. When we are tired of the fun in the sun we go back home to relax and watch a movie on our big couch.
Our Extended Families
We are very lucky to have loving families in our lives to share our journeys with. Tawnya is adopted and also has an adopted younger sister with two daughters. Because Tawnya is adopted, it makes us feel that we are experienced in what that means and also in how wonderful if can be for a child. Tawnya's parents are still married and both retired. We are lucky that we live close to Tawnya's sister and parents so we are able to see each other frequently. We love to go to our niece's sporting events and activities. We spend time traveling with Tawnya's parents going on "bucket-list" trips and having family gatherings to make those lasting memories. When we get together, we love to play cards, have pool parties or go to the family lake house and go boating.
Susan has an older sister that has two boys and a younger brother. Her parents are also still married and both retired. Susan's brother lives the closest to us and we are lucky to be able to have him over for cook outs and all the family gatherings.
Our family is supportive of our adoption process and excited to add a new addition to our wonderful family. We added Lucy, our 1-year-old daughter to our family through adoption and we cannot be more grateful and thrilled.
From Us to You
Tawnya's birth mom left her a letter that she has kept her entire life and holds onto as it's a piece of who she is. Having been through this but from the other side, makes writing this letter not only incredibly meaningful, but also compassionate.
Thank you for considering adoption and looking into who we are as people. We want nothing more than to allow your child to live and grow in a family that supports them and loves them every minute of every single day. We want our daughter Lucy to be the best big sister to your child and complete our family. We want to have a home where your child is given every opportunity to learn about themselves and the world around them. We want to foster happiness, friendships, and anything that makes them the best version of who they were meant to be.
We feel like we have much to offer and even more to share. We have traveled to many countries, seen many different cultures, have been around people of all walks of life and feel like we are open minded and more well-rounded because of it. We have been together as a couple for over seven years but have been friends for over ten (married almost 3 years). Because our love developed over time, we feel like we have a great foundation as a team and partnership.
From the get go, we have known having children was something we wanted. We knew we had so much love and so much fun to share. Because we are a same sex couple, we knew we would have to find this love in a non-conventional way. But we also knew adoption was the way our path was leading. Tawnya was adopted and has had the most amazing upbringing. She has always known she was adopted and was always met with encouragement and acceptance whenever she had questions or thoughts about her birth parents. Having such a positive adoption story has given up the feeling of hope and desire to have the same with your child. Additionally, after adopting Lucy with such a positive experience we are hoping to expand our family and provide Lucy a sibling.
We have a beautiful home that we purchased in hopes to bring a family up in it. We lived downtown for most of our adult lives and moved up to a community where we could be around more families and more opportunities for children. We live by one of the best school systems in our county and are surrounded by every sport, dance, cooking, extracurricular class available. We would love your child to have the chance to explore all that makes them happy and feel success.
We are dedicated to loving this child together and to loving you alongside them. Knowing you would want to be part of their life as the grow, we would never want to take that away from you. We are open to what makes you feel included and comfortable. We are open to sending pictures, emails, and phone calls. We feel if we are open with you and make you feel comfortable, we can grow together and make sure you are involved.
We appreciate you giving us the chance to share who we are and we hope you feel that there is a place not only for your child, but for you in our hearts as well.
