The reason I chose adoption was that I wanted my child to have the very best life — financially, physically and mentally — and at the time I was not able to provide that.

I have two small children at home, and I don't really have much support from my family or their father. I am basically on my own, and this has made it hard on me. I sometimes do not have enough money for myself or my children. I have been struggling to make ends meet for the past five years, and another child would make it extremely hard. I thought I could make someone else happy by giving them a life that deserves to live.

I chose Pedro and Michelle because my heart felt that they would make great parents and, when I met them, they were exactly what I was praying for. God does answer prayers. Pedro and Michelle were very supportive in my labor and never left my sight. They were very understanding and caring, and I enjoyed every minute they shared with me in the hospital. They loved the baby as soon as she was born as if she were their own. I saw the happiness in their eyes, and that is when I knew I had made the right choice.

My adoption specialist was wonderful, and I am blessed to have known her. I am very happy with my decision, and I can go on with my life knowing my child will be happy and loved, and I will be looking forward to many pictures.

You will also be able to share what you want your baby to know about you. You can complete a keepsake booklet to share hobbies, stories, photos of you and your family and a letter to your baby. The adoptive family can provide this to your child as he or she grows older. Be as creative as you like! Some birth mothers have even knitted a special blanket as a gift to their baby or given a similar symbol of their love.

The father of your baby can fill out the birth father's keepsake booklet or write a letter too. You may have other family members who would also like to share photos or a letter to the baby. This is your opportunity to pass on your and your family's love and to share your personality, history and reasons for choosing adoption. The adoptive family will treasure whatever information you provide and will share it with the baby at an appropriate age. In most adoptive homes, the word adoption is in the child's vocabulary early on, and adoption is celebrated in their lives.
