Finding Adoptive Parents in Louisiana

Considering adoption in Louisiana for your child is a big step, and it’s one that you’re taking because you want to make sure you give them the best life imaginable.

Making sure that happens, though, can seem tough. But at American Adoptions, we’ve developed a system to help you find the perfect adoptive family in Louisiana or elsewhere in the United States.

To get the guidance you need for finding adoptive parents, contact an adoption specialist today.

As a national adoption agency, we work with hopeful adoptive families all over the country. This means you'll be able to find an amazing family for your baby in a shorter amount of time for your Louisiana adoption. Below is a guide on how to find the perfect match for your baby.

Who are the ideal adoptive parents for your child?

Some women already have the perfect adoptive parents in mind when they contact American Adoptions. Others aren’t sure exactly what they’re looking for, and that’s completely okay. Your American Adoptions adoption specialist will help you to narrow down what you’re looking for by asking questions like these:

  • Do you care if your child looks like his or her adoptive parents? Naturally, there’s a limit to how much your child will look like their adoptive family, as there will be no shared DNA. Some women, however, feel strongly about whether or not their child’s prospective adoptive family shares the same cultural background as the biological family.

  • Do you want your child to grow up with siblings? Maybe you have fond memories of growing up with your own siblings and want to ensure that your child gets the same childhood. Maybe you want to make a couple’s dreams of parenthood come true by placing your child with a family who hasn’t been able to have children of their own. Either way is completely acceptable.

  • Where do you picture your child growing up? Do you envision them in a rural or urban environment? Do you want them to remain close to you in Louisiana, where in-person visits are easy to arrange? Or do you have a specific area in mind, perhaps close to the ocean or on a farm in the Midwest? American Adoptions works with families across the country, so your child can grow up anywhere you like.

  • What values would you like your child’s adoptive parents to have? Should the prospective adoptive parents share your own values? Do you want a prospective adoptive family to have certain religious beliefs, or prioritize things like sports or the arts?

Louisiana Adoption Profiles

Once you’ve identified with your adoption specialist what you’re looking for in a prospective adoptive family in Louisiana, you’ll begin to receive adoption profiles of families waiting to adopt in Louisiana and across the U.S. With American Adoptions, all of our families create two kinds of adoption profiles:

  1. Print profiles: These serve to give you all the basics about a given adoptive family. The print profile will serve as a sort of brochure to give you information about their home, their lifestyle, their adoption decision and more.

  2. Video profiles: If a family’s print profile interests you, you can go a step further and watch their video profile. This allows you to watch a prospective adoptive family film themselves in their home. You’ll learn how they interact with each other and receive a visual that goes much farther to help you imagine your child’s life in this setting.

How are Louisiana adoptive families screened at American Adoptions?

It’s all well and good to know how to find adoptive parents for your baby in Louisiana, but it’s also important to know how American Adoptions screens all prospective adoptive families in LA and throughout the U.S. If you are shown a family’s adoption profiles, that means they have:

  • Undergone an adoption home study, or an assessment of their readiness to adopt a child.

  • Had conversations with their social worker to ensure that everyone in the family is equally excited and committed to their adoption plan.

  • Agreed to exchange phone calls and photos (at a minimum) with you until your child is 18 years old if you choose to receive this communication.

We will never show you a prospective adoptive family in Louisiana who is not fully equipped to provide a safe and stable home for your child.
