Find an Adoptive Family in North Dakota

What do you hope to find in prospective adoptive parents in North Dakota?

It’s possible that you already know the answer to the above question. Some women already have a vision of the perfect adoptive family when they decide to pursue adoption. However, if you aren’t sure what you envision for your child, that’s perfectly okay. When you work with American Adoptions, you’ll have your own individual adoption specialist who will help you to decide what’s important to you in a prospective adoptive family. Together, you’ll determine the answers to questions like these:

  • Where do you see your child growing up? Do you have strong feelings about the possibility that you find adoptive parents in North Dakota? At American Adoptions, we’re a national adoption agency, which means we work with adoptive families in North Dakota as well as across the rest of the United States. Whether you prefer that your child remain close to you or you envision a life for him or her in a different region, we can help you to make that a reality.

  • Do you care if your child looks like their adoptive family? Of course, your child will not share DNA with his or her adoptive parents, and therefore can only look so similar. However, to some women, it’s important that prospective adoptive parents share their own cultural backgrounds.

  • Do you care if your child has guaranteed siblings? Maybe you have fond memories of your adventures with your own siblings growing up, and you want to guarantee that your child has that same experience. If this is the case, you may want to select an adoptive family in North Dakota that already has other children. It’s also a possibility that you feel strongly about placing your baby with an adoptive family who hasn’t been able to have a child of their own yet, and this is also a possibility.

  • What values and characteristics are important to you in prospective adoptive parents? Consider your own values and what beliefs you hold dear. Is it important to you that your child be raised with the same convictions? For example, do you care if your baby’s adoptive parents share your religious views? Think about your political ideologies; is it important that your child be raised in a home that mirrors your own? At American Adoptions, we work with families from many different political backgrounds, so you’re sure to find a prospective adoptive family you have a lot in common with.

Once you know the answers to the above questions — as well as any other details you feel strongly about in terms of prospective adoptive families — you’ll begin actively searching for parents looking to adopt a newborn in North Dakota who display those qualities.

How does American Adoptions screen adoptive families in North Dakota?

It’s important to know exactly how American Adoptions thoroughly screens all adoptive families before attempting to choose one.  You’ll never encounter a prospective adoptive family who hasn’t been proven capable of providing your child with a wonderful home, because we screen families in two ways:

  1. Before a family can go active with American Adoptions (which means begin searching for adoption opportunities), they must undergo an adoption home study. This is essentially an assessment of their readiness to adopt that includes three phases: a background check, interviews with each family member living in the home, and a home inspection.

  2. Before a family can adopt a child through American Adoptions, they must agree to exchange phone calls and photo updates (at a minimum) with you until your child is 18, in addition to committing to at least one visit within five years after an adoption. You won’t have to wonder if your child is doing well, because these updates will provide proof to ease your mind.

North Dakota Adoption Profiles

When you and your adoption specialist have settled on what qualities are attractive to you in potential adoptive families, he or she will begin to show you the adoption profiles of prospective adoptive families in North Dakota, as well as throughout the rest of the United States. There are two kinds of profiles each family creates with American Adoptions:

  1. Print adoption profiles: These act as brochures to give you information about a particular adoptive family. You’ll learn what their home is like, what their jobs are like, what kind of family structure they have, and more.

  2. Video adoption profiles: If, after reading a family’s print profile, you find yourself interested in learning more, your adoption specialist will show you their video profile.  By watching this from the comfort of your own home on your laptop or cellphone, you can watch a prospective adoptive family interact with each other, learn their mannerisms, see their home, and altogether get a better picture of what your child’s life would be like if placed with them.

After you’ve selected a prospective adoptive family from the North Dakota adoption profiles your adoption specialist sends you, he or she will set up a conference call so that you can get to know that family better. If everything goes smoothly and you feel that it’s the right home for your child, congratulations! You’ve found your child’s adoptive parents. We recommend that you choose an open adoption, which will enable you to have a lifelong relationship with both your child and his or her family.
