Find an Adoptive Family in Hawaii

If you’re facing an unplanned pregnancy and considering adoption in Hawaii as an option for you and your baby, it’s understandable that you may be under a good deal of stress. This is something that you’re considering because you want to ensure that your child gets the best life imaginable, but how do you make sure you find the perfect adoptive parents to provide that? At American Adoptions, we’ve helped many women find adoptive families in Hawaii — or elsewhere in the United States — and we’ve got a few tips that can help you, too.

But, you can call us at 1-800-ADOPTION or contact us today for free via our online form if you're ready to talk to an adoption specialist about adoption.

What are you looking for in prospective adoptive parents in HI?

Some women already have an ideal adoptive family in mind when considering adoption in Hawaii, while others aren’t quite sure how to determine what’s important to them in prospective adoptive family. When you begin to work with American Adoptions, you’ll be assigned to your own individual adoption specialist, who will help you determine the answers to questions like the following:

  • Where do you picture your child growing up? Is it important to you that you find adoptive parents in Hawaii? American Adoptions works with adoptive families in Hawaii and all across the United States, so if you picture your baby remaining on the islands or in a different environment, whatever you envision can become a reality.

  • Does it matter to you if your child looks like his or her adoptive family? Obviously, there’s a limit to how much an adoptive child can look like his or her adoptive family, given that there will be no shared DNA. However, some women feel strongly about prospective adoptive parent sharing their own cultural background.

  • Does it matter to you if your child has siblings? Some women have fond memories of growing up with their own siblings and want to guarantee that their child gets that as well, which would mean placing with an adoptive family who already has other children. Other women feel strongly about placing their babies with couples who haven’t been able to have one of their own yet. Either way, this can absolutely be facilitated with American Adoptions.

  • What traits and characteristics are important to you in prospective adoptive parents? Think about your own values, and whether or not it’s important to you to share those with your child’s adoptive parents. For example, do you want them to hold certain religious beliefs? Political ideologies? American Adoptions works with families from many different backgrounds, so it’s completely possible to find a family you have a lot in common with if this is important to you.

After you’ve considered the answers to the above questions and more, your adoption specialist will begin looking for parents looking to adopt a newborn in Hawaii and other states who display the qualities you’re looking for.

How does American Adoptions screen Hawaii adoptive families?

Before you choose an adoptive family for your baby, it’s important to know that American Adoptions thoroughly screens all adoptive families in two primary ways. You will never been shown a prospective adoptive family who hasn’t been proven to be capable of providing a safe, loving and stable home.

  1. All American Adoptions families have undergone adoption home studies. An adoption home study includes background checks, interviews with each family member, and a home inspection to ensure that the family is ready to add another member.

  2. All American Adoptions families have committed to at least exchanging phone call and photo updates with you until your child is 18. You’ll never have to wonder how your child is doing if you wish to receive these updates.

Hawaii Adoption Profiles

When you’re ready, your adoption specialist will begin showing you adoption profiles of prospective adoptive families in Hawaii and throughout the U.S. You’ll see two kinds of adoption profiles for each prospective adoptive family:

  1. Print adoption profiles: A print profile serves as a brochure of sorts about an adoptive family. It’ll let you know what their home is like, what kind of lifestyle they have, what has led them to choosing adoption, and more.

  2. Video adoption profiles: Once an adoptive family’s print profile piques your interest, you can learn more about them by watching their video profile. This will enable you to see them interact with each other in their normal environment, all from the comfort of your own home using a phone or computer. You’ll be able to get a feel for what your child’s life would be like in their home.

Once you’ve looked through adoption profiles and selected a prospective adoptive family, your adoption specialist will set up a conference call with the purpose of you getting to know them better. If you’re comfortable and everything goes as you want it to, you could be talking to your child’s adoptive parents! If you choose an open adoption, you’ll be able to develop a lifelong relationship with both them and your child.
